The customer service was excellent. The staff were polite, friendly, and very understanding. Upon request, we were provided with a larger bed and a more spacious room, which was much appreciated. Breakfast was fresh and well-prepared, and special requests were accommodated promptly. Overall, a very pleasant experience. Although it’s rated as a 3-star hotel on Booking.com, it felt more like a 4-star experience — apart from a few missing extras, such as a refrigerator in the room.

During breakfast on one day, we noticed that one staff member repeatedly walked past our table without clearing it, while cleaning others around us. This made us feel uncomfortable, and we couldn't help but feel it may have been due to our ethnic background. We want to be clear that this concern applies only to that individual. The rest of the breakfast staff were very welcoming and treated us fairly throughout our stay.

I particularly liked the ambience of the hotel, with elements of naval memorabilia and history. The quiet bedroom and ensuite bathroom were spacious, with plenty of refreshment facilities, which were topped up daily, as were the toiletries. The staff were all pleasant and efficient and I was pleased to be able to leave my luggage in a locked storeroom, on the day of my departure. The hotel is ideally located for a visit to the Historic Naval Dockyard, the Spinnaker Tower, the Gunwharf Quays shopping centre, many bars and restaurants and the Gosport ferry,

During my visit, I tried hard to find anything that could be improved - and couldn't...there was a lot of attention to detail, to make the stay as pleasant as possible. If I had to be really picky, I would say that the breakfast was good and absolutely acceptable - but perhaps not as outstanding as I was expecting, given the nature of this interesting hotel! Also, there is very limited on-site parking, which cannot be booked, although this was clearly indicated before the visit and concessions are available through the hotel for public car parking.

The Lobby and communal areas are very nice, clean, bright and the maritime theme was very good. The room, bed, ensuite were all exceptionally clean. The Tea & Coffee making facilities, with cookies provided, were very nice.

In the ensuite, although very clean, there was a little peeling paint on the wall. When I used the shower I found out why, as the shower head could not be adjusted (I tried) so that it didnt spray the back wall and the floor of the ensuite. My second shower was more cautious and more successful at minimising the water spraying.

Parking is limited but we were lucky as we grabbed the last spot. Reception staff were pleasant enough, a bit clinical but pleasant. The entrance hall is very nice and we loved the nautical theme that runs through the hotel, the bedroom was clean, well equipped and comfortable. The location couldn't be better as it's a 4 minute walk to the historic dockyard and spinnaker with a brilliant shopping centre and endless restaurants. The areas population is mainly students and naval bases which gives a pleasant atmosphere when out walking making for a brilliant day out. The hotel in a nutshell is fantastic value for money in a fantastic location plus the buffet breakfast is great!

Nothing, it was really well priced and com

The breakfast was excellent - it was obviously very busy but the staff did a great job in keeping the food coming and the tables cleared. The fried bread was to die for! I've always said no one does fried bread like the Navy! The room was very comfortable and well appointed. We've stayed before to visit the dockyard so the location for that was excellent. This time we walked to the Guildhall for the concert; 20 minute walk, no problem.

I would suggest that the showers should have a grab handle and a shelf for shampoo etc. We aren't disabled but are 'getting on a bit' and the reassurance of a handle is good, especially if you have to get down to the floor to rescue shampoo, soap etc!

Excellent breakfast, with plenty of choice, good sized room, well located. Fantastic size TV for room size. A hotel that serves black pudding at breakfast hurrah! Good standard of cleanliness, great complimentary choice of hot chocolate tea and coffee. Great size bathroom, and clean. Great to also have a hotel with a swimming pool and we made good use of it during our stay. Pool did get a tad cold at one point, but did warm back up again. Pool was very clean as expected with also clean changing rooms. Staff were all Excellent and we would all happily stay here again in a heartbeat ! Thank you for a wonderful stay and helped make our holiday. We look forward to staying again in the future. Beds were very comfortable and helped to have a good nights sleep. Highly recommended hotel to use/ stay at when in Portsmouth.

Had to have windows open due to it being a very warm room, there was however a humming, air conditioning noise on and off throughout the night, did make it a little difficult to go off to sleep and did wake us a couple of times through out the night. Room Was very warm could do with either a fan or air conditioning being fitted to rooms. Not supplied with much toilet paper, had to borrow a roll From another room. Could hear while in bed the room next door flushing toilet and washing hands in the early hours of the morning while sleeping/ trying to sleep and that disturbing our sleep. But did eventually get back to sleep again.

Hotel ideally located for sightseeing has a bar and restaurant on site , staff were very polite and knowledgeable and friendly. Breakfast was busy but they managed to top up items in a quick manner . Breakfast is self service and a basic English but they do get poached eggs if you want them cooked. Rooms were clean and plenty of hot water.

Parking is very limited , however there is a multi storey across the road get a voucher from reception and gives you a discount on payment at machine. Rooms overlooking the main road we found noisy so ask for room at rear , with windows open it was hot but fans are provided . Coffee at breakfast is in thermal flasks was not the best

Breakfast at the hotel was really good value for money. Most buffet style breakfasts that we encounter are sadly only luke warm. Our breakfast at the Royal Maritime was nice and hot, whatever they do to keep things warm is clearly working well. Great location for the Historic Dockyard and Gunnwharf Quays. Great little pool in the hotel.

Compared to our daughter's room our other 2 rooms were a little tired and in need of update, however, still satisfactory and good value for money. Horatio's restaurant in the evening was too cold to sit in and have dinner, although this was fine the next morning for breakfast. We decided to eat in the bar area which was fine. Sadly we didn't know that had we booked direct we would have received 10% discount because we are military veterans.

Hotel location perfect for our key destination areas, namely the Historic Docks, Gunnwharf Quays and Spinnaker Tower. we also went to the D Day museum and Arundel Castle. every venue was superb. The hotel itself was very good. Easy access to rooms, very good restaurant for breakfasts and Dinners. Bar food available also. Brilliant staff. Across the entire hotel every member of staff we met was very polite, dutiful, knowledgeable, and well dressed. Congratulations to you all, a brilliant team. Needless to say we enjoyed a wonderful 5 days in Pompey, and we will be back.. Thank you Royal Maritime Hotel.

Just maybe some bedrooms could do with a make over?
