Loved this hotel, I upgraded our rooms to Superior King Rooms, and very glad I did. The windows were large, capturing an awesome view. I would totally recommend this upgrade. The Restaurant was excellent.
Check out seemed a bit slow for us as we had a taxi waiting and there was quite a line up of people checking in.

Scandic Ishavshotel is situated very conveniently in the city and have a wonderful view of the harbour, overlooking moutains, the Arctic Cathedral and residences. It is a very beautiful and peaceful sight. It is also near to many eateries, shopping belt and also to pick up points for organised tours. Great location! The room is reasonably size, we were able to open up two 30" luggages and still have walking space in the room. The bed was just a little soft for me but it did not give me any backache. The breakfast spread was wide and superb. Great choices of food, much to choose from.
Wish they have facial tissue box in the toilet, complimentary bottled water, floor mat and no door bell.

We paid the bit extra to get a room with a view over the river and would highly recommend you do this. The view changed constantly and was superb. The room was warm but not too hot. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. You can choose if and when you want your room cleaned and we found the cleaners to be very helpful and would slot you in for a time convenient to you. The shower gave instant hot water from either an overhead giant head or an alternative lower flexible head. Soap and shampoo were in fixed dispensers on the walls. The room was equipped with cups and a kettle with a Twinings tea selection (you could take tea from the downstairs breakfast bar to to personalize your room selection). There was a small fridge in the room so you could keep fresh milk for your hot drinks. Breakfast was literally the best buffet I have ever experienced with all the usual hot and cold foods and some more Norwegian style foods. The hotel is centrally situated and all our booked excursions left from either outside the hotel or within a two minute walk. Our weather was terrible (rain every day) so we were so glad we had our cosy room with the huge window so we could enjoy watching the fishing boats and cruise ships while the rain lashed down. I would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there again. We had room 454.

The hotel was really nice, our room was not quite as big as anticipated but that wasn’t really a problem as the view was fantastic, the shower was great too with plenty of hot water which was ideal after being out all day in the cold weather on trips etc. The breakfasts were superb too and the location was brilliant for the tours we had booked. Lots of bars and restaurants within close proximity too.
The room was maybe a tad smaller than expected and we bought our own shower gel while there as the room one for the shower was very watery. The price of the stay is expensive but probably reasonable given general prices these days and fact that we booked with cancellation option too. These are small things but the overall stay was extremely good and we would definitely stay there again.

Scandic Ishavshotel in Tromsø was the perfect base for our Arctic experience. The location couldn’t have been better—right on the waterfront with stunning views of the harbour, city lights, and surrounding snow-covered landscapes. It’s also incredibly convenient, with the airport express bus and tour pick-ups dropping us right at the door, saving time and effort in cold conditions. The hotel itself is beautifully styled in classic Scandinavian design, offering a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Our room was comfortable and cosy, with large windows letting in the picturesque views, perfect for watching the snowfall. After late nights chasing the northern lights, it was a wonderful place to return to. Breakfast here was excellent, with a wide selection including local options and great coffee—ideal fuel before heading out into the Arctic air. Be warned though, when they say breakfast finishes at 10am, they mean it! I was trying to fill my plate as they cleared everything away! The hotel’s proximity to key attractions like the Troll Museum and city centre shops made it easy to explore Tromsø at a relaxed pace. The staff were friendly and efficient, adding to the overall smooth experience. From check-in to check-out, everything worked seamlessly, allowing us to focus on enjoying our trip. Scandic Ishavshotel is a little touch of luxury and warmth in a remote and icy part of the world. If you’re visiting Tromsø, especially for northern lights tours or Arctic adventures, this hotel is hard to beat.
Lack of flex on the breakfast finishing time. Or at least a warning announced to diners that they would be clearing away the items soon.

Amazing location, wonderful views from our room (of the harbour and fjord, and we saw the aurora borealis!). Breakfast was great and the best way to start long days in the cold. Staff were really friendly and helpful. 24 hour nature was useful for the round the clock activities e.g. getting back at 2am from a Northern Lights chase.
We asked for our room to be cleaned once in the 5 days we were there. The only indication it was cleaned was that the bin was emptied - nothing was wiped down / old towels were not removed. For the price, I wouldn't expect this.

Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Beds comfy and good shower with plentiful hot water. Excellent breakfast selection with a lovely seating area - if you can actually get a table! Parking avail (at cost) but MUST reserve. Well located in town right on the harbour with views across to the Arctic Cathedral and the cable car. Fantastic coffee and cake at Smortorget cafe just outside the hotel.
Very expensive for what it is (pleasant hotel; nothing special). I had reserved parking some weeks prior but reception said I hadn't; I was able to evidence otherwise thankfully so it had to be honoured as they tried to turn us away initially. Bedroom very dark and dingy - terrible lighting for an arctic hotel in winter. Impossible to get a seat at breakfast so had to sit in a different bar area. Only one coffee machine for a hotel of this size, so there were endless queues for hot drinks and after all that the coffee was really not very nice (go to cafe outside hotel instead).

The location is absolutely excellent for both exploring Tromso and also if you are trying to do any excursions/activities while you are there. The staff is super nice and friendly, breakfast is great and easy to get to, and it was a really nice option to have a restaurant right there. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it.
The room was a little small, but we weren't really in it that often because we were out doing things, it was just that it was a little hard to fit luggage for our family.

Interesting hotel in a great location on the waterfront. Most day trips start within easy walking distance. Great view from the room and excellent breakfast. By far the best member of staff was the Barista still making coffees half an hour after she was supposed to close because it was so busy. Overall the stay was good.
The room was small, quite dark and looked dirty, partly because of the tired furniture and stained bathroom sink. There was a huge and noisy function when we were there, but our room was well away and stayed quiet. The reception staff were not helpful and there was no chance of getting into the room before 3pm. No room to put 2 suitcases.

Excellent location. Almost all tours depart from the area. Breakfast was good for every taste. Bathroom was updated and hotel was quiet, except for the occasional group returning from late aurora hunting, but not a big deal. If you rent a car, the hotel has no parking and that is advertised. Consider to pay around 35euros per night, or 70 for full day in the nearby parking, or use the underground in the tunnels.
We just didn't like the room. It had a tinny window like a service room window. It was my wife's birthday, and we didn't feel like the hotel was full, but could be.
