I first stayed here 25 years ago and keep coming back. A great motel - so clean and tidy and our room a bit retro which I love. Biscuits in the room each day is a lovely touch - nice toiletries too. Our room overlooked Chaytor Street (where we used to flat!) and has lovely trees. Very comfortable and great location and is just an inciting place for us.

Bed was a little low which may affect some people, especially as the mattress was quite soft. Noise from the road is present - did not bother us but Fitzherbert Ave is a main thoroughfare.

The room was smallish, which meant the armchair was squeezed into a corner and the kitchenette was really just a cupboard but the facilities otherwise were good. I always appreciate a good bedside light, which this was, and the shower was excellent and the bed was very comfortable. The location meant it was very close to restaurants, bars and shops in central Palmerston North. A bus stop across the road ensured good connections to Massey University.

More power points would have been nice and I wish the Sky channels included Radio NZ. My internet connection worked well on the first evening but dropped out for the rest of my stay.

I feel like I am repeating myself but yet again this is our "go to" location when competing up in Palmerston North. Comfortable, clean, quiet, the rooms are well set out and equipped and the hosts are lovely and always willing to help if need be. The location is mere minutes from the CBD and outlying areas are a breeze to get to from the Fitzherbert Castle Motel. Easy and simple communication, no fuss, if paying in advance, arrive, check in to get room keys and off you go. Always a little bottle of milk in the fridge if you need a cuppa on arrival and well stocked for tea bags. coffee etc.

Again there is nothing to mention. You would be hard pressed to find something that you don't like to be honest.

Staff were very cheerful when we arrived and checked us in quickly upgrading the room to include a spa bath. We selected a nearby restaurant for dinner from the rooms compendium, and stopped in at the office to oder breakfast. The office staff explained that they weren't doing breakfast at the moment. The selected restaurant was 4 monutes walk down the road. The bed was very comfortable and we checked out next morning to look for a cafe for breakfast. There was one that was 17 minutes walk but we drove anyway. Upon finishing breakfast we realised we'd left an item in the rooms fridge. Upon returning to the motel the office staff were very helpful and promptly allowed us back in to the room to collect the forgotten item.

An update in the compendium, or have it mentioned upon check-in, about not currently serving breakfast would have prevented the disappointment of not having breakfast in our room. A minor thing really.

A quaint yet spacious castle hotel that was a pleasant stop for the night in Palmerston North, on our drive from Rotorua to Wellington. The staff were friendly and gave clear instructions beforehand (when we called ahead to say we would be arriving late), to facilitate easy entry to our rooms. Bathroom and shower were good, with consistent hot water. We had booked 2 rooms, 1 of which was the larger, 'tower' room for 4 people. It was very large and comfortable.

The smaller room for 3 persons had a single bed which was slanting a bit, according to our relative who stayed there (thankfully no other shortcomings).

Great central place 5 min walk to supermarket,square & park

We were up in Palmy for a graduation ceremony. This was the best motel room we’ve ever stayed! Spacious, comfortable & equipped with everything needed. Little extra feminine touches made it feel all the better. A make up flannel, iron & ironing board to smooth creased clothes, a fridge & wine glasses & a hairdryer, by a socket next to a wall mirror to do hair, simple things but hardly ever in place.

We were very lucky to have the turret room for our stay. What a lovely warm room! Felt very private, lots of windows out to the trees, plenty of space. The little kitchenette was suitable to cooking a light meal if you need to, but the motel is walking distance to town and some great dining options. The spa bath was a bonus, it was double size!

As rural folk we did notice the road noise, but I don't think it would bother most.

We stayed in Room 16, so spacious and lovely room. Close proximity to everything really. Bed was comfortable and AC was superb!! The staff are so lovely and good with recommendations for food options as we came from Auckland. Very accomodating and great location if you Plan on going out to eat or do some shopping we drove 5 minutes or less to everything we needed

Nothing, I will be coming back to stay in the future!!

The staff were the perfect hosts, knowledgeable about the area, offering information, and very hospitable. The executive room was immaculately clean and set out brilliantly for workspace at the table, and lounge area to relax in and the bed was ever so comfortable. The kitchenette was good with a minibar, microwave, fridge, and utensils and cutlery. Very spacious. Plenty of parking and secured with a gated exit. Total value for money. A walk very short walk to fast food, restaurants, liquor stores, PaknSav, and the mall. This will be my go-to from now on. Thank you for all your hard work

There is nothing I can fault. But, I do wish I had stayed when your cook was available.

Location was great as it's a short walk into the main streets of the city, bed was comfortable and a spa/batch was a bonus as well. Room was large and roomy with plenty of space. Friendly reception too.

Walls are quite thin, breakfast not included or can provide options, no pool/gym facility, longer luggage hold after checking out will be better, otherwise it's all minor as you pay for what you get.
