The location of the hotel is superb -- close to a lot of neat city attractions (the Prado, the park, botanical gardens, boutique shops, tapas bars, etc.) but it is located on a notably calm and quiet street. The two cafes that the hotel is associated with (they were a half block away) were high quality and affordable. And the hotel staff, the overall cleanliness, and the attention to details were all exceptional. My boyfriend, his mother, and myself all felt extremely welcomed and taken care of, both leading up to our stay there and during it. I can't recommend this place enough.

Zero complaints

The location is perfect and walking distance to the main spots of the city. I was very good to go back for a short rest during the day before going out again. All the staff is really friendly and we got a great tip from Roberto about this street market on Sunday. Lots of Tabernas and restaurants nearby, and the accommodation was really spacious, clean and perfectly maintained. I definitely recommend staying there, next time I’m in Madrid I will book again. My husband and I travel a lot, and I can’t think about another place so well located and great than this one.

Calamo is very well located, 10 mins from Sol and 15 mins from Atocha train station. I had booked a Superior room, and didn’t notice at first that I was given a Standard room. That room was very nice: comfortable bed, view on the street (not very noisy), and a very very nice shower. The staff was always very kind and helpful. On day 2, I realized that I was given the wrong room. I talked to the staff, who checked on the computer and confirmed that indeed there had been an administrative error. He apologized, called the manager and assured me that I would be given a compensation refund. The day after, the manager contacted me via whatsapp to confirm that the refund was transferred, and indeed, one day later it was on my account. Every interaction was done with utmost respect and friendliness, which I really appreciated. I would be very happy to come again.

The staff was super nice and really helpful. Once you start the check-in process, they'll explain everything very detailed. You'll feel such a relief and very surprised about the location where you have everything close to you. Besides this, they give you a map and talk to you about what's around the area from attractions to shopping and emergency sites if something happens. The staff was very attentive to my needs, and it made everything go smoothly with no problems. I'll totally recommend people to book with them, especially those that are visiting madrid for the first time.

Cálamo is a very convenient place to stay for every visitor, as it is located at the very heart of the city. It’s at a 10-min walking distance from El Retiro parc, Del Prado and Reina Sofia museums, and it is 20 mins away from Plaza Mayor and Palacio Real de Madrid. Roberto, the host, was very welcoming even before our arrival. He sent us all the information we needed to reach the guesthouse easily. He was extremely kind during our whole stay. He gave us a tour of the guesthouse (upon our request). He generously replied to every question and gave us recommendations and all the information we needed to move around the city all while helping us practice our beginner-level Spanish. Roberto helped us carry our luggages to the room. The place is very cozy and has a working space to those who need it. Roberto kindly kept our luggages at the guesthouse after our checkout to facilitate our tour in the city. He then welcomed us again in early evening to pick them up and leave. We can’t stress enough on how warm and unique this place is. One would feel at home all while being away from home.

Nothing! It was more than perfect

Attention to detail. The room I was given seems to be newly refurbished. Well thought out. Amenities provided one would get in a star class hotel. Roberto at the reception was amazing, he also provided me a map of the city and recommended few things to do once he knew this was my first visit to the city.

Really nice guesthouse and a lovely stay, great value for money! The hosts messaged me a few days before arrival to ask what time I'd be arriving, and because I was arriving after reception was closed they said they'd send details of how to get into the guesthouse the day of arrival - they sent clear instructions explaining exactly how to access the building and my room, they even sent me a map with the exact location, they gave recommendations for museums and vouchers for breakfast, the whole process was easy peasy! The hotel is on a quiet street but still in the heart of the city, walkable to almost everything and just a few minutes from the metro. The room was small but as a solo traveller it really didn't bother me, I only used it to sleep. My room and the reception area were super clean, the bathroom was modern and included some lovely toiletries. Free wi-fi was included and worked with no issues. I saw one of the hosts as I was leaving and he was very nice and wanted to make sure I had a nice stay. Overall I would recommend this guesthouse, really great value for money and I will defiantly stay here again next time.

Only negative would be the hotel entrance - when you go through the main entrance you're straight into a dark walkway before you get to the stairs up to the actual guesthouse, there is a light switch on the wall by the door but it wasn't clear it was there so I had to put my phone torch on to see where I was going until I noticed the switch.

I liked the simplicity and at the same time the comfort the place provided. I like the bathroom, it's one of the most important things for me.

I missed the explanations about the AC in the room. so I and my partner were a bit freezing at night and couldn't understand why we were not provided with additional blankets. In the morning the receptionist said that we could've switched on the AC which works also as a heater

Location and the room was very nice. Right beside plaza santa Ana, parking below, great cafés and restaurantes nearby. Staff very nice and very helpful. There is a cafe/care Shop next Door, only open in the afternoon but the carrot cake is spectacular with a nice tea or coffee. A must. No keys codes, very useful and organised entrance and exit. Like having your own small apartment in Madrids old town ,no kitchen.
