Good, quiet location close to the historic old town of Zanzibar. All the main sights are in walking distance. Nice house with lots of greenery in an area with some impressive buildings and a tree-shaded square. Friendly staff (though could be more responsive sometimes). Breakfast on the rooftop was good - very friendly service there. The guesthouse was our base for both Stone Town and other parts of the island.

The fridge in our room wasn't working when we arrived, but the front desk person insisted it was OK. After mentioning the problem again, it was replaced. Also, we asked for more hangers a couple times, but never got them. The room was a little small for the two beds - we had to use one of them to put our things since there was no other place.

The staff was SUPER friendly and helpful. The free breakfasts were fantastic- eggs, sausage, fresh fruit, fresh fruit juice, coffee (instant) and toast. The rooftop patio was the perfect place eat breakfast and relax. The room was lovely. The building is old (as are all buildings in Stonetown), which added to the charm. The room and bathroom were simple, and quite adequate for sleeping and bathing. The water was always hot. There was mosquito net, but it wasn't really needed. One of the best parts of the Garden Lodge is the location. It is very close to the Bazaar, daladala "station", restaurants and the waterfront. We took a daladala from the airport (1000/$3 for 2 people and 2 bags), and the stop was only about 2 blocks from the lodge. You can also very easily get tuktuks at the circle just to the north of the lodge. It is on a side street and very quiet. If you want a more authentic experience in Zanzibar, take daladalas and tuktuks. We went to Paje and Nungwi for about $3 each. You can take daladala 116 from the central market bazaar to get to Nungwi and you can take the first of 3 to Paje from in front of the hospital (just about 200 meters from the lodge).

The rooftop patio was an amazing place to spend time. It would have been better if they had had some comfortable and relaxing furniture there to use after breakfast.

Garden Lodge is within walking distance to everything in stonetown without the noice and busyness from the city center. The breakfast at the rooftop restaurant was very nice and the staff was friendly. It was nice that we could buy cheap cold water at the reception.

There were SO MANY mosquitos in our room! Even though we used mosquito repellent we still got bitten a lot especially during the night because there were so many holes in the net over the bed. It was by far the worst place we stayed mosquito-wise in zanzibar. We stayed at Garden Lodge for 4 nights and our room was not cleaned once during. It would have been nice to have our sheets changed and the floor swept maybe just one time during our stay. Also we ran out of toiletpaper a couple of times during our stay and we had to go to the reception to ask for more - it wasn't a problem for us, but others might find it embarrasing.

Good location, quiet and walking distance to basically anywhere in old citt. Working ac and fan, satisfying breakfast. Small room but acceptable.

Old windows wouldnt get fully closed thus the ac couldnt cool the room down well. Staff could perhaps be a bit more polite.

Incredible location - walking distance from major attractions in the city. Kindest and most attentive staff, ready to help and answer any questions I had. Great continental breakfast every morning, made to order. Beautiful, cozy building and the room was as advertised - private room and bathroom.

Honestly, no critical feedback! It was an incredible location for travelers looking to stay in an incredible town on more of a budget. It wouldn't be the right sort of place for someone looking for a true resort experience, but it's everything that you need and more to truly enjoy the location while having a safe, cozy, private room with breakfast every day.

The location was good. It was a stone throw away from the Stone town market and very easy to walk around the main attractions in Stone town to explore.

There is no improvements to suggest. The staff were lovely and friendly, and breakfast was worthwhile.

We stayed one night before leaving Zanzibar. The location was perfect to explore Old Town. Distance of short walk from shops and restaurants. We asked for early breakfast and lovely staff served it for us before our departure. Really recommend this place if you are looking for something affordable with walkable access to Old Town.

Nothing. Everything was better than I expected

Quiet place, a little tucked away from the hustle and bustle of most of Stone Town. Friendly staff and attentive service. Close to best Ethiopian restaurant on the island.

Nothing.

The staff were wonderful, so welcoming and helpful. Breakfasts were generous and delicious. The location is very convenient, close to everything, but also quiet and peaceful. The upstairs veranda and rooftop were fabulous - shady, peaceful, beautiful.

It would have been helpful to be able to unpack a little, there wasn't really any space to unpack / put clothes.
