The room was comfortable and the location was perfect for the Redgrave theatre and walking to the Suspension bridge. The staff were very helpful over breakfast which was lovely.
I think it was trying to be 2 different things…a student hangout and a hotel. We had to have our main meal in the rather shabby bar area and it was suggested we join the queue at the very busy bar to order our food. The queue went right out into the garden and it was only when we said we would have to go somewhere else that our order was taken without joining said queue. Not what you expect as a hotel guest! It should also be noted that there is no lift and quite a lot of stairs. It would not be suitable if you have mobility issues.

I felt all of the staff enjoyed their work, all part of a positive team, rather than going through the motions. Alex(?), the young lady dealing with the breakfasts, was absolutely incredible. Could not do enough to make everyone comfortable, and even offered to help the gentleman next to me, by offering to tuck in his chair for him and getting him a cup of tea, what with him having a walking stick. Her whole approach to her job exuded joy, commitment, respect, and sheer enthusiasm. A remarkable young lady, and the Hotel should feel blessed to have her. The "full english" was superb, both in quality and price, and the option to purchase "top ups", such as extra eggs, for example, was great. Normally, people may feel too embarrassed to ask for extra eggs, or sausages, etc. Having just finished a TOTAL fast of 23 days (not even a peanut or crisp, no solids at all), two eggs would not have satisfied me for my first meal back, so I pigged out and had four fried egg in total, alongside the generous portions of hash browns, beans, bacon, mushrooms, sausages and toast!!!! By providing an option to pay for "top ups", the guilt factor is removed. An important point, that, and well done for providing such an option, as a lot of Hotels simply have fixed portions. Another wonderful touch to the excellent breakfast strategy, one I have never encountered before, was the provision of crumpets!😁. If a heavy breakfast is not to one's liking, toasted crumpets more than compete with the "continental" breakfasts, which were also available, such was the thought and effort put in to your excellent breakfast array. As for my sleep, it was excellent, all the more so with not one, but two large radiators, which kept me lovely and warm. The provision of a fan, of good size, was excellent to ward off the heat in the summer months.
I stayed in room 23. Whilst it in no way effected my enjoyment of my well priced stay, I have to say, as an observation, the wooden surround adjacent to the toilet and bathroom sink in room 23 is in dire need of painting, as highly noticable stains stuck out like a sore thumb, and implied a sense of neglect, which actually was as much of a let down to your wonderful staff, as it would be to a paying customer.

The staff take hospitality to a new level. I have never had such amazing service anywhere. They were knowledgeable on their menu for allergies and triple checked with the chef multiple times to cater for my allergy child. Nothing seemed to be an issue for them. They were helpful, friendly and just overall amazing. The room itself was a standard pub room with bathroom.
Not the hotels fault but the parking is quite terrible in the area however if you arrive after 5pm you can get parking until 9am near the church. You can also move the car after 9pm closer to the hotel as long as you move it before 9am.

The area was quite, but there was a shop nearby and supermarkets about 5 minutes on foot. The hotel is conveniently located close to both the suspension bridge and the city center. Both areas are easy to reach, within a walkable distance. Our room was very spacious, clean and beautiful. We specially liked the tea-coffee service. The staff members were always very nice and helpful and their pub is very good value for money, including breakfast (we loved it!).
We forgot and item in our room and they informed us that we could only get it back if we went there in person. Living abroad this is just not possible, which was sad.

Excellent and personable staff and one staff member carried one of our suitcases up multiple flights of stairs when we arrived in the late evening (Dan). Bin was changed every day and provided with fresh linen. Great location, easy walk into some nice areas. Lively bar and tasty breakfast. Amazing shower and bathroom. Roomy and comfy bed!
We had noisy neighbours that woke us up in the morning so walls were just thin enough. Also we didn't have updated prices for breakfast menus so we got a bit of a shock when it was 3 quid more expensive.

I loved the location.it has a beautiful outside seating area.i love the exterior look of the hotel.really enjoyed the breakfast that was included in the price.parking close by.nice green and peaceful area, with lovely views.
Stayed right up.on the top floor and there's no lift.the room really needs it's decor updating.couldnt shut the bathroom door unless you were in the bathroom and put the bolt across.no air conditioning so the room was unbearably hot, despite using the provided fan.not able to close the bedroom window.the tap dripped unless you forced hhe tap handle round as far as it would go.the room seemed grubby and dingey. The stairs up to the room were filthy and needed hoovering.had to ask for more toilet paper as there was no spare in the bathroom.the double bed was on the small size.

Room was larger than expected, which was a nice surprise. Good shower, comfortable bed, excellent wifi. Location was perfect for me, walking distance to my work event, and close to Clifton Downs.
Only small unpleasantness was one staff’s throwaway comment about thinking they’d misheard my name (and then repeating it back to me exactly how I had said it—literally the only difference being a half-second less drawn out vowel!) I likely don’t elongate my vowels as much as one might in the West of England, but that doesn’t mean I’ve got my own name wrong. While I know this is not an intentional slight, it does have the feel of “oh this is how you should have said your name” and that’s an uncomfortable experience.

I had emailed the hotel beforehand & asked if they had facilities for disabled people. I can walk but climbing stairs is a struggle. They said no & that all the first floor rooms were booked, but that staff would take my luggage to my room. I actually looked for alternative hotels but stayed with Channings. When I arrived, my room was not only on the first floor, but the first room at the top of the stairs. I really appreciated that had been arranged for me. The staff were absolutely lovely. The room was very comfortable & clean & the dinner I had in the bar was nice. Late checkout is nice also!
The rooms are a little tired & obviously a lift would be amazing but in general I can't fault. Also, I wasn't disturbed by the busy bar at all!

The Channings is in Clinton, which is just outside the city centre - perfect for those who want to explore the city by day and sleep without noise by night. Service was excellent and the staff were very attentive and there when they were needed. The room was clean and while the bed was a little hard it was still comfortable enough for a few nights. I had breakfast included which was very tasty and plentiful, with a variety of cooked breakfasts to choose from. Extra bread, croissants, cereal and fruit can be taken from the buffet table, as well as tea, coffee and juices. The pub on the ground floor was never an issue while sleeping, and it is on its own a nice place with good beer and dinners. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel to others 👍
The bathroom had a wooden step up to the sink and toilet which creaked loudly, making me concerned if I was disturbing neighbouring guests by standing on it. I had to be careful not to smash my toes on it at night! Some of the furniture looked rather battered and the walls could do with a touch up of paint, but it was nothing major.

our family room was a good size for 1 double bed and 2 singles , the gentleman who was on duty at reception was very kind and sorted out a cot for us at the last minute . That was brilliant ! Family enjoyed their veggie breakfast , their was plenty of choice for the continental breakfast and Lots of cups of Tea !!
The weather didn't help but as our room was at the top of the building we did hear doors banging continuously ... but we did all sleep .
