We stayed for one night after meeting up with friends. We were greeted at the desk by a friendly young girl who explained everything to us what we needed to know, including the booking of breakfast. The room was clean and just what we needed for our stay. Was a little concerned about being located above the outdoor seating area but it quietened down quickly and didn’t disturb us at all. After a good night sleep we went down for breakfast, was asked about any dietary needs and was given a delicious vegetarian breakfast. Overall a good experience and I enjoy staying in places with character and heritage

Fascinating old coaching inn so be prepared to haul cases up narrow stairs, but you get atmosphere and pretty pub in exchange. Rooms comfortable, warm and very clean. Good bed - we slept well - and hot shower and everything comfortable. Staff very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was excellent and freshly cooked.

We were only staying for 2 nights so room wasn't made up but not an issue for us for short stay. I asked for refresh of teabags and toilet rolls on second night and staff happy to resupply. Take care with hot water - it's very hot, and you need to adjust shower temperature carefully to get it right!

Really friendly hotel that was dog friendly. Undergoing some renovations during our stay, but it didn't cause any disruption. The staff were just lovely and clearly wanted everyone to have a great stay, which we did. Our room was big and comfortable with everything we needed and we both slept really well. The breakfast - full English- was delicious and great value. We will return to see the hotel in its full glory very soon... thank you for such a warm and welcoming stay.

The new owner is in the midst of giving the hotel some much needed tlc but we really enjoyed our stay and don't have anything negative to say - the hotel is a little tired but it's all in hand.

Staff very helpful and friendly could do enough to make ones stay pleasant. Typical medieval building/inn nothing level but that is what you expect from a very old building. Decor was good and all clean. had a Four poster bed and a really large bath with shower. tea and coffee in the room and tv. Breakfast, I had continental, cereal, juice tea or coffee fresh fruit and toast. All good for me. One could have a cooked breakfast if required.

I don't think it effected all the rooms. But the room I stayed in was above a speaker and the music especially the beat resonated through the room and wasn't shut down till 11.20pm! Just unfortunate, as when you went out on to the landing the beat did not come through! Just need to move the speaker or turn it off earlier!

Super friendly & helpful staff; all staff were truly lovely, but the lady that served us at breakfast couldn't do enough - loved her! Very clean, lovely big room (junior suite), beautiful old building, good quality breakfast, excellent parking. Handy to have a little convenience store 2 doors down and lots of places to eat in walking distance if you wanted to eat elsewhere... although the food was great in the hotel! Even the locals in the pub & the local store were really friendly and made you feel welcome. It was a great place to stay whilst our daughter was at camp at Grafham Water over the weekend!

Nothing!

Booking online didn't include breakfast so we enquired about this on arrival and treated ourselves to four mornings; it was delicious, each day. Our room overlooked roadworks so this were changed; we'd seen room 6 online months previously and would have chosen this had we been able to, so that was a very pleasant surprise. We certainly hadn't anticipated dining at the hotel repeatedly during our visit, but the menu selection was wonderful and excellently prepared. I sampled a number of the ales during our stay and all were well kept.

Usually there's something, but on this occasion neither my wife nor I could find any fault.

Staff were absolutely exceptional and really went the extra mile to make sure our needs were met. Decor was lovely and blended the historic elements with modern comforts very well. Meals (dinner and breakfast) were lovely.

As you might expect from a historic building, the floors are a bit squeaky and uneven in places. Also there can be a bit of noise from the street outside. However, these were really minor inconveniences and to be expected from the age of the building!

Friendly and helpful was Becky, she was a one person does most all eccept the cooking.

Well getting up on the Sunday morning at 08:00 there was no one there from the pub,so just had to leave the keys on the counter,as we did'nt order any breakfast,l suppose nor did anyone else,so thats maybe why there was no staff on at that time of the morning.Thankfully we had a cuppa our room before we left to go downstairs to the ground floor.

We booked two rooms, a twin room and a double room. On getting there our double room was upgraded to what seemed to be the main bedroom in the hotel, with a king size four poster bed and beautiful decor. There was also a view from the window to the church and the stately home next door. We felt like some important people had stayed in the room before us, which given the hotel's history goes back to 1492 and the distinguished history of the village, they probably had. The twin room was also very nice, though my mother-in-law took a while took a while to get used to the sound of the macerating toilets in some rooms of the hotel which she hadn't encountered before. We had dinner in the pub restaurant which was very nice. We didn't sample the breakfast so I can't comment on that.

There wasn't really anything we didn't like.

Hotel - Pub - Restaurant is cosy and full of character. Eclectic seating, wooden wall panels, layout and ambiance is charming and along with the staff running it, made our stay perfect. Aspall cider is my favourite tipple and the chicken curry with rice, naan and sweet potato fries was excellent especially after coming in from the cold. The two ladies greeting and serving were very welcoming, always made time to check everything was alright for us and never stopped working - making our stay a very enjoyable experience.

The heating didn't come on in the morning which my husband wasn't happy about but there is a phone number available to call at anytime and an extra heater could be arranged. I think we should make allowances as the building is over 500 years old and that in itself is worth being able to spend the night there without all the luxuries we usually expect nowadays.
