The staff were excellent and could not be more helpful. Comfortable beds and rooms and a good breakfast.

In our room the ceilings were a bit low but you are dealing with a property that goes back to the Tudor times so perfectly understandable.

A nice friendly greeting from staff as we walked in, a little chat about the local area, did we know anything about the town, points of interest etc. Quirky old building, books everywhere so not stuck for something to read on a longer stay. Short walk in to the town centre or a slightly longer one through the Abbey gardens to the centre. A shopping area that hasn't changed hugely from the eighties when I was stationed in the area, different shops but still bustling unlike some. Plenty of places to eat and drink. Excellent breakfast in the morning, always a good start.

can't really think of anything

The room was very clean and comfortable. Check in was very quick. I had made a couple of requests before check in that were carried out prior to our arrival. The room had a window that you could open if you needed fresh air. It was a cold night but the heating was excellent. Curtains and a blind to keep the light out. There were cups and mugs in the room and you could make tea and coffee. Very quiet. Breakfast was friendly and tasty with a lot of choice. Good library with lots of books. Parking was easy behind the hotel. Nice location and not far to walk into the centre.

No bar or evening restaurant but there is a lounge.

lovely quirky, well lighted room. An attic space originally used as accommodation for the maids. Now luxurious and warm, with little window to look down and along this old part of Bury St Edmunds. Arrived December, in rain and cold, and this window really did provide a window of Dickens' England, or Scrooges time. And the lovely and kind staff member who met us, showed us around, advised and made lovely hot breakfast every day. Her attention made all the difference

The staff, the atmosphere, the historical aspect of the house and how cozy and comfortable it was all amalgamated to make it really a lovely stay. They had really good breakfast options and everything was clean and well presented and everything was very elegant in its form.

The only thing I would say if I was really nitpicking is that curtains would leave large gaps and it took me a little while to sort that out, but apart from that I can't think of anything I didn't like about the stay.

This was our second stay here. The staff were very welcoming and breakfast was excellent. The room was comfortable and it was good to have a little seating area, too. I liked the tea/coffee/glasses and mugs in the room in the little wall cupboard. The location is excellent for the town centre and for walking to the Abbey Gardens, the cinema, etc. We could also job to the Parkrun at Nowton Park on Saturday.

The owner is a very nice guy, very helpful and knowledgeable. Breakfast is excellent - I had the full Irish (they call it full English - but we'll let that pass!). Its an easy walk into the town - no more than a 10 minute stroll. I felt a huge sense of achievement after parking in the car park - access can be a bit tight. Just give yourself a wide turning arc and youll be grand.

No problems.

In terms of value for money, this hotel is great! The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was super quick and enjoyable - very traditional English fry up! The hotel has lovely lounge areas and feels very homely. Location is fantastic too! And great they have parking given central location.

The hotel is slightly tired but it has lots of charm and the hotel accounts for that in the price. I think they could even charge more!

The very friendly welcome we received. We arrived very early, but despite that we were given a room by the cheerful and friendly owner. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. This is a very pleasant and quirky old hotel dating back to the Tudor period. It is in an excellent quiet situation in easy walking distance of the Abbey Gardens, Cathedral and town centre. We were in Bury St Edmunds for a concert at The Apex and the hotelier kindly gave us a map and marked out the position of the concert hall.

We liked everything about this hotel.

A lovely, quaint little hotel with exceptional staff who were very friendly and helpful (there was nothing they couldn’t do)! The room was lovely with a very comfortable bed (I slept 12 hours every night, missing 4 out of 7 breakfasts)! The breakfasts I did have were delicious and served by a very friendly and helpful young lady who made the mornings very pleasurable (I am not a morning person)! I was very pleased they provided a public car charger, at £10 per charge it was a little on the expensive side, but even big chain hotels haven’t started providing chargers for guests so this was wonderful to see! I would definitely stay here again as it has become one of my favourite places to stay!

It took a long time for the hot water to run and when it did the pressure was terrible, which made the shower quite a disappointing experience. The breakfast menu could do with a bit more variety, they had the usual cereals and toast bar (it was good to be able to make our own toast) but there were only three breakfast items on the cooked breakfast menu, the rest were various food items on toast, it would have been good to see Eggs Benedict, Eggs Florentine and poached salmon on there.
