This is a beautiful property with so much character! We loved the log burning fires, traditional decor and our beautiful room! The food was superb and service was excellent. The restaurant area is lovely and my son was thrilled with the pool table in the lounge area! Our room was quite cool in the evening as the radiator thermostat had been turned down prior to us staying but the owner very quickly sorted a fan heater for us which soon warmed the room up. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay!

The sofa beds in the room were not comfortable. They look lovely but there’s no mattress so they weren’t nice to sleep on.

Friendly and helpful hosts, a lovely clean family room with a bath and shower, the best breakfast and excellent decor.

This place is as reviews mention a Gem. Please don't be put off that it's off the beaten track you will not be disappointed. Arrived and greeted by Sam who invited us in checked us in and gave us information needed for our stay. We booked dinner so went to room to freshen up. The food was outstanding the atmosphere was nice with plenty of places to sit. I don't like crowds so found a nice sofa by the fire place providing space and quietness as there was entertainment on however not too loud but I we choose to sit away. The Ambience is lovely. Our room was lovely clean a good size we were very impressed. Had travelled south up heading home and had stayed in several places this one out did all the others I'm afraid so I cannot recommend enough your be very impressed. We had breakfast lots of choice helping ourself to tea coffee and juices and cereal. All staff spoke to us we felt comfortable on our one night stay. We will definitely stay again Thankyou to all staff.

We found this hotel by chance when I was looking for a stop over on our way to Skye from the south of England. It is a short drive from the motorway, but when you arrive, it is absolute paradise. It is an old stopover coach house, and has been beautifully extended and decorated. If you are looking for a true English stopover complete with fabulous food, friendly staff, comfortable rooms, beautiful scenery, then this is your choice! When I say true English, I mean a quintessentially quaint English pub, with original features. Everywhere you look there is something of interest, be it humorous pictures, old beams, slightly leaning walls…. It is a gem of a place. Totally recommend it!

There is not a lift, but our elderly parents managed the short flight of stairs up to their rooms, no problem.

Gorgeous Interior, staff & facilities. Definitely staying again. I travel a lot with work and this is the best hotel/Inn I have stayed in. The food is outstanding, what a great Chef. I had the crab lasagne for dinner with desert and the breakfast of eggs Benedict was delicious too. Boasts fabulous friendly staff. A five star from me. Thank you very very much.

Breakfast room was beautiful- a real effort had been made to make this room extra special for guests staying , lights, lovely table wear, cushions. Homely feel. Self service on hot and cold drinks. Then the menu was anything from toast and marmalade to a full fry up. Whatever you want Colin who is the owner would do what he could to accommodate. It’s a golden gem !! I needed an early check in this was no issue. I needed internet for work, as it’s in a rural location I wasn’t sure if this was going to be a problem - of course it wasn’t. I had an excellent experience and will book again. Thank you

Honestly, for me anyway the perfect place to stay. Quiet, comfy, accommodating I genuinely don’t have any negatives. Free parking added bonus, I have an electric car and nearest EV charge point is about 3miles away. Again perfect. 15 minutes to Carlisle and local to Hadrians Wall.

Friendly warm welcome on arrival. Anything and everything was no trouble to the staff to help. This is an old coaching inn with the atmosphere and decor to go with it, not a modern, sterile chain type hotel. My son and I made an impromptu couple of days away, we looked online for a Hotel and found this Gem!! We had a fantastic trip, walking Hadrians wall, visiting Museums and castles on both sides of the border. Food and drinks at the Hotel were superb and breakfast was a stand out for us. Highly recommend 👌

We had a meal when we got there, in the quaint homely Pub/Diner. The food was good the service was great. The room we stayed in was a good size, with a couple of sofas, a single and double bed, plus a small kitchen area with a sink. The bathroom is a great size and a good shower. Breakfast is good.

The fold up bed was unusable, I slept on the sofa. Just past the bathroom is space for hanging coats/clothes, the hangers were not very good. The stud wall or door there obviously has wooden stairs on the other side as you could hear people using them and moving around. No tea/coffee making facilities.

A perfect stop in the middle of nowhere driving through narrow English country lanes. The bar was cozy with friendly locals and the food (I had a burger with pepper corn sauce for dinner) and breakfast (full English with black pudding) was amazing. They saw I was wet from hiking Hadrians Wall and let me check in a little early to dry off, so that was really appreciated.

There is nothing else in the village, so once you are here, unless you want to drive somewhere else, you are stuck. But the pub is open from 4pm, so I was fine.

Having hunted via app for accommodation around Carlisle, it was a pleasure to find this historic place. Although a few miles into the country, the management advised travellers of road closures closed by. Good accommodation and restaurant facilities. Food good.

A passing lady pointed out a drain cover at the front with a sharp corner that could have damaged a car wheel. This should be fixed asap to avoid a future incident. I presume that management already knows about this.
