Stayed for one night as we were visiting 2 local RSPB reserves both of which were just a few minutes drive away. Less than 10 minutes walk into town with all the expected facilities. Room was very clean with a lovely, easy to use en-suite shower. Work is being done on the outside of the building and the kitchen was closed for refurbishment but this didn't impact on our stay. Staff were friendly and welcoming. A complimentary breakfast provided everything we needed. Situated directly opposite the Castleford Tigers Rugby ground so in quite an industrial setting with a fairly busy road out front but double glazing cut out traffic noise and we slept well in a very comfortable bed.

Single room, but space well used so didn’t feel cramped and everything you would need (except maybe some storage space, but I was only there overnight so didn’t really bother me) For a property with shared bathrooms probably the best I’ve stayed at. They were clean, available when required and the shower was lovely. Also a sink in room which helps. Nice decor in room.

Slow check in. I had an uncomfortable wait in the bar area waiting for someone else to be checked in. The outside areas look nothing like the photos. Scaffolding up when I stayed (including outside the window) and the outside / car park areas were quite scruffy. Stains on cushion on bed (see photo) Breakfast was from 8.30hrs (Bank Holiday) so I missed out, as I left the hotel before 7am. Not much information regarding breakfast times on the site, but I believe it’s 7.30 - 8.30am Monday to Friday and an hour later on weekends, Bank Holidays. Steep steps to all rooms, so may not suit everyone. It does feel like anyone could access the rooms from the car park. Someone did open the door to my room, but I think it was other guests trying to find the exit.

The Wheldale was an absolutely fabulous hotel. The room was just like the picture on booking.com and it was very spacious, with a really beautiful bathroom and a hot shower and the room was also really warm which was great for a winter evening. Breakfast was also fabulous with a choice of a continental breakfast which had a lot of choice of cereals, crumpets, toast and cheese, jams or for a little extra cost we ordered a full English breakfast which was superb. We would definitely recommend this hotel and if we are ever in Castleford we would definitely stay at the Wheldale Hotel.

The room was really spacious and the bed was really comfortable. Shower was also really powerful and hot.

The room was spacious and comfortable. Nice decor ( I don't like the usual bright white walls alot of hotels have) Checking in and out was easy. Breakfast was very good. Lovely bacon & sausages. The cooked breakfast that we had was extra ( but still good value for money) The complimentary breakfast was cerral, toast, fresh fruit, yoghurt etc. Lots of choice. They even provided me with oat milk for my cereal & cups of tea 😊

We were in room 10, which is at the front by the main road, so it was a bit noisy. We had the window partly open because it was a very warm room, so perhaps if that was closed it would be quieter. The room was a little 'tired' but I understand they are updating rooms gradually, so this may change soon.

The room was spacious and clean. Sky TV also a bonus. We were greeted by Donna who was welcoming and as the chef wasn't in was open to us ordering in and provided plates and cutlery, she even offered to warm up a 'ping' meal for us. Continental breakfast was included and a full English available at a small extra cost, which was very good! Bar prices were very reasonable, we managed to have 3 bottles of wine for what we pay for one in our local (hence why we needed the fab breakfast). Overall good value for money.

Metal staircase to access the rooms at the back of the pub may be an issue for some. The local area felt quite run down sadly. The people however were friendly and welcoming.

The hotel is easy to get to from the station and has an attractive bar/eating area and a large beer garden. Donna was very welcoming and explained all the hotel policies clearly, giving us a handy print out showing everything we needed. Our room was large and prettily decorated. The bed was very comfortable and lighting can easily be controlled from the bed. Each side of the bed has wall sockets. The bathroom was also large with a roomy walk in shower and rainfall or standard shower options. We had the buffet breakfast on our first morning which is included with the room rate and offered plenty of choice. On ur second morning we opted for a cooked breakfast at a very reasonable cost. My partner throughly enjoyed his full English and Paul kindly prepared me a delicious meat-free breakfast. I asked for an iron as we had a wedding to attend and Donna went above and beyond by going out to buy a new one for us. Absolutely lovely wee hotel. We’d definitely return.

We liked everything

The room was clean and tidy, with clean sheets and towels. It’s equipped with a kettle, some tea/coffee and has a working TV. The ensuite bathroom was clean and is very spacious also. Breakfast was included which had all the essentials you’d expect, and it was quiet since the pub is not yet open. Overall I enjoyed my stay

My room was upstairs at the back of the pub. Honestly it felt quite open and anyone could walk around from the main road/carpark if so inclined. I locked my door from the inside, but I would’ve felt more assured if the main door was also locked. Check-in closes at 10pm, but I can’t fault them for that.

The Wheldale Hotel acceeded our expectations. The staff were more than helpful. The cost of the drinks were most acceptable and the food was freshly made in the kitchen and very palatable. Terrific breakfast included in the price and it was very substantial and if you wanted a 'special' cooked variety then this was on offer for a small charge. All in all a terrific overnight and if we wanted to go back to that same area would definitely stay again. There is some scaffolding on the outside as they are renovating but don't let this put you off, it's lovely inside and it won't be there forever. Lovely, welcoming hotel.

You do have to climb stairs to get to your room which can be a little bit daunting but we were offered porterage so that was a huge asset. We were also lucky to stay in the ensuite available and do believe the other rooms have shared bathrooms but they were well appointed.

The pub area was very nice, it looked like a nice town bar and had a cosy friendly atmosphere.. The pizza I had for £7 was lovely.. All the staff were great. Although it was "shared" bathroom, there were two on the landing and they were big, modern and spotless. The included breakfast was fine, and it was a very reasonable price to upgrade to a full English. The bedroom was comfortable and had all usual facilities including tea/coffee, Television and clothes hanging space.

Everything was fine for me, I would definitely stay here again.

Friendly owners, comfortable room, quiet location a short walk away from all amenities. Superb large cooked breakfast (£6.95) in addition to the included continental selection of cereal, toast, fruit, yoghurt and pastries. Sun-trap garden for the evening and seating areas for enjoying the weather throughout the day. We stayed in room 7 which was a twin.

Not so much a dislike but I would have loved to have dinner there also as the breakfast was so good! You are welcome to eat a takeaway in the bar (plate and cutlery provided) whilst renovations are taking place.
