On arrival greeted by a very friendly lady on reception. Our rooms were exceptional, very spacious, spotlessly clean and warm. The very large bathrooms again were so clean they shone. The shower, over a huge corner bath, was fantastic. Great nights sleep with no disturbances from inside the hotel. All the staff were super friendly. Breakfast gave lots of choice and was exceptional. The location was perfect for a stay in this charming market town.

There is literally nothing to improve on. Could not fault anything. If I could give 11/10 I would. To get such quality for the price we paid was incredible.

Had a very warm welcome. The staff are lovely and our room was ready when we arrived at 12pm. We stayed in a executive room. It was spacious, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was huge!!! The hotel is being refurbished. The decor is lovely, and in keeping with the age of the building. Neutral decor with a modern twist. The breakfast was beautiful. A varied menu to suit everyone and good quality ingredients. Location is perfect, central to town, parking is a car park just opposite if there is space £6.20 for 24 hours which I thought was good value. We had a lovely stay and would definitely come back.

My single room was small but had everything I needed and was clean and comfortable. The hotel is ideally situated being central and close to good restaurants and bars. The breakfast was good with a range of cereals, yoghurt, fruit juices, tasty eggs and nicely toasted bread. All the staff were excellent, really friendly and helpful. The Leisure Centre car park was only a short walk away but unfortunately the hotel won't be able to provide parking permits after November due to changes being introduced by the Council.

I found the illuminated clock on the mirror irritating when trying to get to sleep but the problem was easily solved by hanging a jacket over it.

We waited over 30 minutes for a bacon sandwich (the restaurant was busy). When it arrived is was extremely disappointing… poor white bread - buttered without asking if we wanted it buttered, bacon was undercooked and tasteless.….We couldn’t finish them - People on table opposite had full English and left similar amount of uneaten food. Real shame as couldn’t fault the room.

Loved the location. Lovely big room comfy bed and having a restaurant on site. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. We had 3 flights of stairs! but it was the most basic room.

Maybe tell visitors to be aware of all the stairs, we are fairly fit but if you have a hammy knee etc it could have been difficult. We loved the room 220 but there is nowhere to put your smalls ie no drawers and no shelf or cabinet in the bathroom for shaving gear toothbrushes etc . Also no hook on the bathroom door for a dressing gown it had to go on the floor

After booking last minute we were pleasantly surprised on our arrival. The receptionist was so friendly and welcoming and talked us through everything. The room was just right, with a super king-size bed needed desperately after wild camping. We visited the Block steakhouse, which is connected to the hotel and we had the most amazing Chateau Briand with sides and delicious wine. After a comfortable night's sleep we went to breakfast and again the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was just what we needed again and was fresh and again delicious 😋. Booked multiple rooms for family members. The single rooms were tiny, bathroom was in a closet, however it was clean. The main suite / superior king room was awesome, huge, opening up onto courtyard and was very comfortable. The restaurant attached (Blocks) was expensive but had awesome food, the best gravy I’ve ever tasted. Would definitely stay here again :)

There was building works going on during our stay, had to drag our 25kg luggage upstairs, then downstairs , then up again. No help was really offered. The breakfast was tasty but would have preferred being able to select food and drinks from a buffet style, rather than food coming out in a random order. Staff could have been more friendly, or at least not be within earshot when talking about its visitors.

Location - Delighted to find that the hotel was in original old building, right in the main town so it was an easy and interesting walk along to the birthplace of William Wordsworth. Room was spacious with all amenities - tea/coffee making facilities, tv, hairdryer, free WiFi, small ironing board and iron, ensuite had great mirror with motion sensor light and clock built into mirror Breakfast menu was superb with generous portions plus the option of a Breakfast Box, with yoghurt, cheese, flapjacks and apples Staff were generally very helpful and pleasant

The town generally was very quiet on Mondays and Tuesdays with only one or two restaurants actually open in the evening, including Blocks, the restaurant within the hotel, so we never got to eat there. From Thursdays, most places are open. Apparently, there's not enough visitors to warrant the restaurants opening on the off-chance, which is a great shame for the whole town. More visitors would benefit everyone.

The breakfast was very good.We had a large double bedroom which overlooked the road so we could see what was going on round and about. The car was left at the leisure centre car park (3 min walk)again included in the price as was the breakfast. If ever in the area again would certainly look to stay again.

Only one gripe was that there were no staff on site overnight .As we were above reception area someone had left ambient music on all night which although wasn't loud due to the speaker being just below our room did cause a disturbed nights sleep. It was mentioned to staff next day and they did confirm it was an oversight and it didn't happen again during the stay.
