The staff is lovely and the hotel is simply a sight. The rooms and the entire hotel is historic.

Rooms with windows facing the city can be noisy at night as the windows are single glazed. Sleeping can be difficult without ear plugs. It would be great if something could be done about the noise level. I guess the building is heritage and the windows can't be double glazed but secondary double glazing might be an option. Ive been at the lion a few times as the location is great and I love the architecture of the hotel. It would be great if the sound insulation could be improved.

If you skim the reviews you’ll see a plethora of those slating the condition of the hotel and yes, the rooms / bathrooms could use work and maintenance for sure. I will agree with that (the radiator in my room wasn’t working but I was provided with a portable heater which did the job just fine) however I looooove this gorgeous Tudor building and the atmosphere / history of the place is what draws me back time and again. If you can overlook the condition and appreciate what a wonderful building this is then you’ll enjoy your experience

The lack of bottom sheet on the bed and missing tv remote - aside from that it was a wonderful stay!!

The staff were helpful, responsive, knowledgable, friendly, and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. Our allocated room was without character, and we were disappointed. The staff looked to rectify this, but at the time, only the front bedrooms 5 and 6 with noise from the nightclub were available, and we declined it. The following morning, we asked again and was offered a much nicer room with all the charm and character of a double room that we were looking for.

The uncomfortable bed is in number 20. Noise level continued outside of the entrance into the early hours

I don't know what people expect. But I disagree with a lot of reviews here and I was hesitant to book here. Good I did! Almost everything. Especially the staff. The manager was lovely, always keen to help and give Information when needed. Nice size room and a lot of atmosphere. Breakfast was very tasty and plenty, good coffee too. And the location was good. Literally in the centre of the city.

Probably some painting around. And the room could be a bit cold, but just a bit.

I love the building I love history had a very good conversation with the lady on front desk who provided me with a print out of the history of the hotel

The staff were exceptional, the 600+ year old hotel was amazing and reaming with history. Beds were comfortable, very clean, water pressure and hot water were great and worked perfectly, location was near all conveniences including the bus stop. My only concern was walking my luggage up 4 flights of stairs @ 75 yrs old . However, that would not stop me from rooming here again. Thank you Red Lion Inn for a memorial stay!

Uncomfortable bed mattress ( could feel spring wiring ). Noisy/fighting at night outside ( Lion Walk ). One of the reasons for booking was that the restaurant was advertised as open, on arrival informed not open for evening meals.

Beautiful building, no frills hotel. If you want boring and moden then do not stay here. This hotel is quirky and historic and completely no frills but it is great value and In a central location. Only down side is there is no parking and I couldn't find the hair dryer. Other then that I love the fact that it is a little bit of an odd ball and all the staff were amazing.

The staff especially the two managers on reception were extremely welcoming and helpful and always happy to help with anything. I currently made a mistake with my booking and had problem with my bed. They were both able to resolve problem efficiently.

WiFi was inconsistent and kept disappearing. When connected would not load. I had no problem during the stay as I had 5G consistently. But this may be. A problem for those who don’t have unlimited data or 5g etc.

Amazing old building, full of history. Super friendly and helpful staff. Decent and well priced breakfast. Super convenient location.

Wifi speed low. Not an issue for us but might be if you were trying to work. Rooms are very old so have no double glazing, as such there can be a lot of noise from busy town centre outside. Easily resolved with ear plugs though. No parking on site but there was a cheap Multi story (£5.95 per 24h) a short walk away,
