Winter time, so very quiet, no need to book for dinner. The room was spacious and the bed was lush... Both me and my daughter slept well, with a good mattress. The bar is next to the room. Plenty of bedroom and plenty of outdoor space

Odd place to be... The first time I came here it was clueless and hiding away from the main dual carriageway. I was driving in pit black and looked like it was dead end but it was not. Car park fee, so make sure you log in correctly. First time use I mistake the days of staying and had to re enter again, so make sure u log in Ur reg and days of staying. Confuse on log in and check out the system however u can go reception if u are struggling to use the machine.

Being kept in touch between booking and arrival was useful. The breakfast was fabulous! The young lady doing check in/bar/dinner service and breakfast (!) was very pleasant and deserves a rise for her multi-tasking! Dinner was OK and in-room tea and coffee was welcome. (I feel badly they we accidentally came away with 2 of your teaspoons and will try to get them back to you through our granddaughter who lives in Colchester.) The bed was comfortable and the room and bathroom were clean and tidy. The soap/body wash were very nice. The view over the lawn and a window that opened slightly for fresh air. Much easier to to get to than it looked on the map. Plenty of parking, and much nicer than a city hotel.

Nothing serious. Just a few small things: Nothing we needed corrected on a weekend: We couldn't get heat into the towel rail. The toilet bowl had a small sticky patch that hadn't been cleaned properly. We found operating the shower a bit complicated. I could have used a sheet of writing paper but realize that's old-fashioned. The room looked a bit "tired", needed a bit of decorating attention. Again minor things.

Beautiful, welcoming reception, and breakfast area. Layout was really nice, quite spacious hallways. Makes it feel really welcoming. Good room design, nice hot shower and good heating options. Huge bed!! Complimentary breakfast was a very welcome bonus. And shout out to the lovely staff that had to work during Christmas break.

Only slight niggles were the random dripping of the shower during the night (had to give it a good drain a few times) and the pillows being far too hard but otherwise, it was a lovely stay.

The bed it was so big also we could open the window and it was nice and quiet

There’s no extracter fan in bathroom or fridge in the room no air conditioner and no tray for the cups or biscuits the tables in the dining room could do with a good cleaning they felt sticky no phone in room if we needed help we would have to go back to the reception fine if you’re able bodied but I’m not thankfully nothing happened also the light at the side of the bed if you switch it on it also puts on the hall light ??? and around the edges of the carpet needs to be cleaned and chair moved and cleaned behind

The staff were very friendly from when we checked in all the way through the stay. Food was great value for money and the menu was customisable, handy for me as I am vegan and I didn't feel overly limited by the evening menu. The room was very clean and neat when we arrived and the whole place was very welcoming!

The bathroom was very small but this was just one of those things - the room itself was lovely with a living area and a bedroom. There were some guests who were inconsiderate, banging doors, talking very loudly on their phones during breakfast etc but it didn't detract from the overall experience and was no fault of the actual hotel. The only other thing was there wasn't plug sockets next to the beds, they were across the room so to charge phones etc we put them over there. Made us talk to each other rather than the normal night time doom scrolling!

Great location for easy access into Colchester, free parking- but remember to enter your car reg at reception!clean, comfortable and good value for money

Very stretched staff! Only 1 member of staff between reception, and bar and waitressing in dining room. No room clean or tidy on any of the three days we stayed. Also charging for mobile phone not next to bed across room! - these were inconvenient not major issues and we would definitely stay here again

We have stayed several times at this hotel and always find it clean and tidy.

Breakfast was always a bit slow however, this time was the worst ever. The hot food was all gone and we waited for it to be replended. By the time it was several other people had arrived for breakfast and it all went in seconds. Only managed to get a partial hot food breakfast with no more expected. Lots of people missed out and some left It was very busy but the hotel must of know how many people were staying fie breakfast. There was only one member of staff about.

Breakfast was adequate, not many staff around until Fri 21st when extra staff appeared..I feel we should ALL be reminded our hospitality has taken a massive decline of people coming from abroad to work here, therefore employees are doing their utmost to keep hotels, restauranrs, pubs operational. The location was good but extra signage on the roundabout would prove helpful rather than going round the roundabout twice!

The 5a.m. fire alarm on Fri 21st July saw customers vacate the building, waiting at designated safety bay for 25 minutes, when the alarmed ceased and no show of a fire engine, we took it upon ourselves to venture back inside. We were extremely concerned that no one came outside to carry out a headcount OR to reassure us that the building was safe, no explanation or apology was offered from any of the staff, in fact when I enquired about the incident, staff looked rather blank & when I said about standing outside, she replied, "what you all went outside". I'll find out what happened, I waited 25 minutes and no one came back to me. Thank goodness we were all safe but I feel strongly that the hotel needs to brush up and greatly improve their fire safety procedures.

This hotel is a great location if you’re visiting Colchester and don’t want to be in the heart of the city. It’s quiet considering it’s by the main roads, comfortable and equipped for a good stay. Big comfortable bed!

I agree with some of the reviews the room we had was amazing, no air con but luckily it wasn’t a baking hot day. Also some of the wallpaper was painted on and peeling off the wall in our room, so maybe just a lick of paint and tidy up.

Well presented and good location - despite being near busy roads it wasn’t noticeable in the room. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Think the lack of room makeup except on request was unusual. Change of towels wasn’t an issue except the washbasin tap was so fierce it came over the top of the sink and towels were used to mop up the flood… Lighting very low especially when I realised that one bulb near the kettle area wasn’t working. Little things easy to fix!
