The breakfast was excellent. We had the little full English and I also had a muffin complete with large field mushroom poached egg and hollandaise sauce which was exceptional. The service was very good. We also had two evening meals. The shepherds pie was very tasty and my husband enjoyed the fish and chips. The next evening I had the chicken curry from the specials menu. I also tried a banana and rum cheesecake which was beautifully presented with honeycomb ice cream chocolate shards and actual honeycomb. It tasted as good as it looked and wasn’t overpriced. We were pleased with our room. The only negative was that the stairs up to it were steep and the doors very heavy. Fine for us but no good for anyone on the frail side. We loved the fact that the floor sloped. You knew you were staying somewhere old and with history to it. The bed was comfy and the room nicely presented. We also appreciated the homemade ginger biscuits. We have stayed in a best western this year and you didn’t even get given packaged biscuits let alone homemade. We loved the location. We were close to the high class cooperative so we bought a meal deal from there for our walk from Dedham to East Bergholt and Flatford. We loved Dedham and enjoyed seeing the constable painting in the church. The surrounding area is very beautiful. Would highly recommend for a short break. We were very lucky that we had lovely weather when we went the first week in September. Lots of people were paddle boarding or rowing on the Stour. We had a short ride in the electric boat at Flatford which was very enjoyable.
The only negative was the lack of drawers in the room. In our room they could replace the dressing table/ coffee and tea station with something similar but with bigger drawers. Maybe some storage baskets. I always pack coat hangers. Glad I did as there were only three coat hangers on a clothes rack affair on the wall. We were grateful for the long bench in the room. We kept our suitcase on there so we could easily access our underwear and other clothes we couldn’t unpack.

All the staff we had dealings with were, without exception, pleasant, friendly and helpful. The food was all excellent. The choices in the breakfast menu were better than many places we've stayed in. Dinner was superb, better than we'd expected for somewhere in this price range. The room was cosy, comfy and spotlessly clean.
There's absolutely nothing I can honestly say we disliked, unless, being exceptionally 'picky'and positively looking for something to criticise. Then I'd say a tad more sound deadening of outside noise would make things even better than they already are and a small shelf next to the hand basin would be better than the wall mounted, metal 'boxes'! Neither of these things would prevent us from re-booking, which is very likely!

Beautiful historic property in lovely village. The room was lovely and comfortable and everything provided is nice quality. They also offer gluten and dairy free options for those who with allergies and that was really great!
Some noise from the bar below and passing cars, but I’m used to living in the countryside where it’s very quiet so it probably wouldn’t be as noticeable to other people. Breakfast service started a little late for me at 8am. I’m used to eating earlier and it’s not so practical if you’re flying. However staff were very flexible so I was able to eat earlier - thank you!

Overall the room was brilliant. Recently decorated to a high standard with a modernistic feel. Bathroom was exceptional. Staff accommodating. Great breakfast.
The room lacked storage space. A wall coat hanger with 3 hangers and a metal contraption with wooden shelf for bedside cabinets were insufficient for a 3 night stay. we were literally living out of a suitcase. Call me old fashioned but I prefer a wardrobe and bedside cabinets. The stairs accessing the bedrooms were very steep and anyone with walking difficulties (as my husband will testify) would find it difficult to climb them. Television reception was extremely poor.

A lovely, traditional pub hotel in the heart of this beautiful village. Very comfy room and very helpful, friendly staff.
The ensuite bathroom had a bath that looked the part for an old pub, but was actually very unpractical to use. It was on legs so felt unstable, and was narrow and slippery to get in and out of. Any older person would find the bath challenging to use, especially getting in and out of it, there being no rail to hold on to. The shower hose in this bath was the only option for showering, washing hair etc and water went all over the bathroom floor, making washing a bit of an ordeal! There was also limited lighting over the bathroom mirror. Apart from the bathroom, everything else was very good.

Lovely old Pub/hotel in the middle of historic Dedham. The young female staff were very welcoming and communicative. The food was super, Tai Chicken curry brilliant, breakfast extremely well prepared, brilliant beer lunchtime. Room decor just so.
Parking can be tricky, maybe 15 spaces but often misused. Street parking plentiful BUT 2 hours maximum. Our bedroom was small but perfectly formed. OK for our 1 night stay. Apparently four bigger bedrooms also have a walk in shower, which wasn't apparent when I booked via Booking.com which I think just showed a free standing bath in a bigger bedroom.

Room was a lovely size, great bar, lovely staff, home made biscuits in room, wonderful cooked breakfast, comfy bed.
Having to lift the barrier manually to get in and out the car park Car park very small Window in toilet looked onto the road so it really needs the blind down all the time or windows blurred or people in the town can see you when you stand up from the toilet. Room noisy when cars went past in early morning, understandably because they aren't double glazed...would take my ear plugs next time.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good, as were the evening meals. The room was fairly spacious with a nice comfy bed. Has an excellent outdoor area for eating outside for when the weather permits (which it did for us). The Marlborough had lots of historical quirks and character, which was exactly what we wanted. Highly recommended.
The stairs were a bit steep, a bit like mountaineering, but it's an old building!!! Otherwise, it was all good.

The Marlborough is a great place to stay, the staff are very friendly, helpful and very welcoming. Our room was spacious, very clean, had a very comfortable seating area and lovely views across to the church. Lovely big bathroom too.
Breakfast was very nice lots of cooked options but only granola available if you didn't want a cooked breakfast. Also I had advised of our dietary requirements several weeks before our stay and was advised that these could be accommodated so booked a table in the restaurant for dinner. There was only one option for dinner and to meet my requirements the coleslaw was removed. I had thought that as I advised the inn that an alternate meal might have been prepared especially as I mentioned it was a special occasion.

Really wonderful room, comfortable bed and nice bathroom. Lovely pub for a drink and breakfast included was very good.
The member of staff checking us in asked if we had a dinner reservation and we felt became rude and had no interest in talking to us any further once we said we were eating somewhere else. We understand there is competition between pubs but we actually had just gotten married two days before & had gift vouchers for the other pub, and every intention of having drinks at this pub afterwards. Made us feel very awkward.
