You know how it is: you want a weekend away and the well known chain would be the easy option - you know what you’ll get. But the chain doesn’t always offer the value for money it might want you to believe it offers. So you look for something else. You check the reviews and eventually you make a choice and hope you’ve made a good one. But unless you’ve stayed before, there’s still a slight nagging doubt, a fear of the unknown maybe. Well fear no more - for me, The Fernside delivered completely. Friendly owners, a comfortable room that was clean, a nice breakfast cooked to order, a convenient location near the local station and a good real ale pub, ten minutes walk to the seafront at a slow pace, and very good value for money. I’ll be back to Sandown sometime in the future, and the choice next time will be easy - same again.

Nothing to dislike - even Winston the Chocolate Lab was friendly, as long as I didn’t sit on his sofa!

We had a warm welcome and the proprietor took the time to contact in advance to ask when we intended to arrive and was kind enough to have our room ready for us. The room was large and comfortable (i slept really well every night) and the shower warm and powerful. Everything was lovely and clean too. Breakfast was good quality and really set you up for the day. The dining room was comfortable and the waitress very pleasant. Location is great, just a few mins walk from the station and 5mins from bus stops and the high street of Sandown - which has so much too do around it and is home to some lovely eateries. We couldn't have been more welcome and thank you for having us.

Accomodation was absolutely spotless, a lot of attention to detail when it comes to cleanliness. Staff were friendly and personable, very down to earth yet professional. Breakfast was very good quality.

Was a little further from sea front then expected, took a little while to get bearings of the area as was listed as only 500 yards from beach, but isn't. However this did not affect enjoying of holiday at all, just took a bit more navigating to begin with.

This is one of my favourite b&bs. It has a lovely atmosphere, great room with tv and shower and generous cooked breakfast. A big thank you to Stuart and his staff. I would definitely like to come back to complete the coastal walk.

Very good value. Bigger than average single room. Substantial breakfast - good choice and freshly cooked. Location not all that near the town centre and beach, though that wasn't a problem for me.

No serious faults that I can think of. I'd definitely stay there again.

Great room with comfy 4-poster bed. Big windows for light and airy feel. Fantastic breakfast! Lovely hosts. Easy access to station and to the town and beach.

Wifi a bit in and out but tbh that is the island all over: you don’t come to the Isle of Wight for its wifi 😃

This is my second time at Fernside. This is definitely one of my favourites. Stuart is a great host and the b&b is so comfortable with a great full English breakfast. It was so nice to see Anne and George again.

What a great b&b, the owners were very nice and made me feel very comfortable as a single woman traveler. Perfect location for the beach and town. The room was spotless and a great breakfast. No hesitation in recommending this lovely b&b.

Where to start? Firstly the staff were fantastic. Very polite and helpful throughout our stay. My partner is gluten intolerant so they went out of their way to provide a full gluten free English breakfast. The rooms were a decent size with very comfortable beds. The ensuite was clean and had fresh towels on arrival. Lots of tea and coffee in the rooms too. We had our window open all night and didnt hear much outside. Its set back slightly away from the main strip (around 5 mins walk) so you do get a peaceful nights sleep. Parking wasnt an issue, although i can imagine mid summer it might be.

Apart from the walls being a little thin, which is hardly something they can do much about, the place was perfect.

The breakfast was nice and the stay was good value for money. I was given a storage place for my bicycle inside a building (which is something I do not normally get when travelling by bicycle).

The single room did not have a chair. (But then I may have got a chair for the room if I had requested one)
