On arrival, I found I'd lost my bank card (I'd lost it just before leaving Devon for Moffat and hadn't realised). I explained the situation to the lovely young chap behind the bar and asked if my son could pay over the phone on my behalf. Due to a glitch this wasn't possible, but they still allowed me to stay, have breakfast - served by an equally understanding and kind young woman - and then leave for the Morvern Peninsula, trusting that payment would be made online upon my arrival at my son's house several hours later. I'd have been completely up the creek without a paddle had they not been so accommodating as I had relatively little cash on me at the time. I can't thank them enough.

There was nothing not to like, even Moffat itself is a pretty little place. Staff lovely, room had everything I needed and more. Can't complain at all.

The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. The bowl of sweets in the room was a nice touch. The bar food is good, nothing fancy but well made with good size portions. The full Scottish breakfast which was included in the room rate was excellent.

The room furnishings in our room were a little tired, a couple of vanes missing from the blinds and no curtains meant the windows aren’t fully covered, not great when the room looks out onto the main Street! The shower was clean but when inside with the doors closed it looked like the bits behind the doors have been missed.

My wife and I stayed in one of the cottages , was very quiet and peaceful at night . The cottage was very clean and bed very comfortable . Plenty of tea , coffee and bickies , little fridge with bottled water , jug of milk and little bottles of coke ( which were replaced everyday ) also bowl of sweeties ( refilled every day ) and a box of chocies for us on arrival . We were able to park on the street at the front door of the hotel which was handy . Breakfast each morning in hotel was freshly cooked and very tasty . If we were visiting that part of Scotland in the future this is the 1st place we would be looking to book .

Nothing we didn't like about our stay just a suggestion for the hotel cushions for the sofa would have been good as i have arthritis and although the sofa was comfortable , i found it hard to get up again after sitting down as it is low .

The location has everything we needed. The food in the restaurant was lovely with good choices. Staff were very helpful and friendly. A perfect stop off on our long journey home to Manchester from Portstoy. The room was lovely with a little fridge and fresh milk every day. Great shower, and a comfy bed. Perfect. I came here three years ago with my husband on our way back from a wedding in Forfar. I came with my friend this time, she loved it.

Too many stairs to the rooms, and no hand rail on some of them, and poor lighting. The TV wasn't working very well, but the WiFi connection was excellent, so I used my tablet.

The room was extremely good, I was expecting something relatively simple, but it was a mini-apartment, a very pleasant surprise. The little kitchen and fridge were stocked beyond what you usually see. The food in the restaurant was also really top shelf, quickly served and delicious, as was the breakfast. The staff were really friendly and helpful. There was free parking right outside. And the bar was dog friendly with a warm fire.

There is nothing that could have been better. There was a face-cloth with a little box of soap balanced on it. It was as if the people who ran the place had written the manual rather than decided to read some of it.

Right on the high street in Moffat. You can park right outside, might be bust depending on what time you arrive. I got there in the evening so there were plenty of spaces. It's free to park which is great. The staff on reception, in the bar and the restaurant were all really friendly and efficient. The room was good, it was a single but with plenty of room. It was spotlessly clean, nice shower gels and plenty of towels. The shower was great too. The bar / restaurant is nice. Plenty of choice of beers, lagers and ciders. All very reasonably priced which was a bonus. The food is really good value too. I had the fish and chips which were excellent. I'm really glad I stayed here and cannot fault it.

Nothing.

Room was the best single room I've experienced, comfortable, spacious with excellent facilities, very easy to relax in. All the usual supplies plus a decent sized fridge with a jug of fresh milk replenished every day. Bathroom was a decent size as well and had a small light over the sink, ideal when using the bathroom in the middle of the night. Breakfast was excellent, well cooked and plenty of choice. Staff were warm, friendly and helpful. I arrived in the evening and hoped for a meal. Although all tables were reserved, a check was made of times and I was fitted in before diners who had reserved a particular table were due to arrive.

The Balmoral is a well patronised pub and the main dining area is in the bar although there is a raised area at the end that is a little more separate. This was no problem to me but it might not suit customers wanting more privacy. It was noted that a lot of local residents were dining there.

We had a cottage in the garden of the Balmoral, it was bigger than expected. It has a kitchen, but no pots or pans or utensils. The bedroom upstairs was spacious, with a comfy bed, the bathroom had a good shower. The cottage is a bit under furnished, we could have done with a chair in the bedroom for putting our clothes on at night, and a comfy chair downstairs. The sofa was rather lumpy. It was lovely and quiet at night. We had great breakfasts in the morning and took our evening meals in the hotel and really liked them. It's a friendly place and parking is easy in front.

No chair in the bedroom, the lumpy sofa downstairs. We would have liked a bench outside the front door to enjoy the evening sun for a bit.

Easy , friendly check in, well appointed room with mini fridge and jug of fresh milk for tea and coffee which was excellent. Nice sized bathroom, clean and fresh. I ate in the popular, friendly bar area, excellent food and value for money. I had the Beef Stroganoff which was delicious. Slept well, quiet room. Full breakfast was large, very tasty and quality ingredients. Very happy, would definitely recommend a stay at the Balmoral and I would stay again. Free parking outside.

Nothing, great value for money and would stay again
