We had one of the two outside annexes which are spacious and clean with excellent modern toilet and shower facilities, a king size bed and two comfortable armchairs plus a table. Parking for these is just outside which is very handy when packing and unpacking. The annexes are dog friendly and dogs are also allowed in one part of the dining room in the main building. The atmosphere is relaxed but always helpful, the food is tasty and reasonably priced. We have often stayed in the Buccleuch over the years while travelling to Scotland and back and it never disappoints. This is one of our favourite hotels.

Nothing to complain about.

We booked a superior double room. On entry the hotel is a bit tired and dated looking, however staff are warm, welcoming and friendly. Our room was large with a huge comfortable bed. The bathroom is modern with both bath and excellent shower. We had a very enjoyable dinner from a good varied menu, in the hotel restaurant. Cooked breakfast was lovely.

Although it was not an issue for me, perhaps thicker window curtains to block the streetlight light as my partner prefers to sleep in a darkened room

Excellent friendly staff. When we arrived the young woman at reception ascertained that the room we had booked would be unsuitable as it was on the 2nd floor which I hadn’t realised. She offered us the same room on the ground floor which was so lovely and suited us just fine. We had to cut our stay short as my husband became unwell and the manager kindly told us how we could get a refund on the second night stay which I didn’t think would happen as it had been paid already. Great customer service

Didn’t like my husband becoming unwell and having to cut short our stay.

The food was awesome. Authentic, home made. Everything from the side dishes to a venison main course to the incredible sticky toffee pudding —- to the breakfast (including clotted cream and honey with homemade porridge) was a fabulous surprise. Also, there’s a very serviceable gym a quarter mile away where you can get day or weekly memberships.

The rooms are old and need lots of thorough cleaning; the work desk is tiny, the rooms are small. But all was as advertised and all was serviceable. The service in the dining room was a little slow — lots of single trips by servers when multiple tables could have been visited.

This hotel is a little gem! We stayed for one night, the final night of our little week-long tour of Southern Scotland, and it was by far the nicest of all we had stayed in. Such good value for money. We stayed in the Auchenbrack room (one of the family rooms on the top floor), which was perfect. As with the rest of the hotel the room has some lovely features and is really pleasantly furnished - very much my style of building! My wife particularly loves the bath! Staff were very welcoming and the food was excellent. We had a lovely meal the night we arrived and breakfast was lovely too. Portions for both adults and children were good. So pleased we stayed, definitely look at coming again, maybe with friends next time.

A comment rather than a dislike would be that the starter menu was quite small and on the night we stayed there was one dish not available and another with only one portion left. This being the case, options were a little limited so my wife ended up having a prawn salad from the lite bites menu as a starter.

The hotel is clean and comfortable. Mostly, very friendly and professional staff who engaged with us, adding to the feeling of welcome and great service. The food was excellent in the restaurant.

The bedroom felt restricted due to the eaves in the roof. It was extremely hot (inside and outside), with just one small window, giving little fresh air flow. A fan was provided, but we weren't happy to leave it running during the night. The staff member on duty during breakfast on the first morning was in need of further training on customer service, she didn't engage or notice the used dishes gathering on our table when she brought breakfast. That was in stark contrast to the staff member the second morning. The public spaces for relaxing are limited and small, just the bar and outside areas.

Breakfast was excellent and we were impressed by friendly staff. We also enjoyed meals in the restaurant which has an excellent menu. Our room was in the rear courtyard which gave us a convenient parking space. Lovely spacious bathroom!

The shower had very limited flow despite a large rainfall head. The beer garden would have been rather noisy in the evening if the weather had been better!

Wonderfully welcoming and accommodating. Very attractive period building looking fresh and solid at the same time. We arrived late so we sent our dinner order on in advance but were not made to feel at all hurried when we arrived. The room and bathroom were very spacious and comfortable with very high quality linen. Dinner was excellent. Incredibly positive attitude towards dogs!

Next time we’ll ask for a room further away from the road. The double glazing was effective but we are used to complete silence where we live. Also our beautiful room was illuminated through the night by the hotel sign…Not enough of a problem to deter us from returning. We thought it was an excellent hotel, very competitively priced.

I’ve stayed many times now, the staff are joyous and really make the stay more fun. I was with my parents but felt safe having a drink there by myself as the staff happily chat away and make you feel like a local. The managers are the same as when I last visited and that really helps to make you feel welcome when you see the same faces again.

I had one minor complaint but the manager said he’d deal with it straight away and was happy to listen. so really no complaints 😁.

Check in was quick and efficient, staff were all very professional and approachable, room was clean and of standard expected, had booked evening meal which was faultless, breakfast was also very nice and service was relaxed . Can highly recommend

Only challenge for us was that room was situated on second floor, not as fit as we once were and after a lovely evening meal we would have preferred to have been on the first floor but not a complaint - note to self to enquire next time when booking accommodation - not as fit as we used to be / think we are !!
