The staff were excellent; really attentive, helpful and friendly. The food quality and choice were first class. We loved the traditional Scottish fare. Beer garden furniture was of good quality and one of the staff members brought out soft cushions which was very welcome.

We stayed in room 21. The bed mattress is a little uncomfortable and probably needs to be replaced. The shaving mirror was broken and needs to be replaced. The shower is over-bath with a plastic shower curtain. We would have preferred a walk-in shower. The curtain was clean, but it just feels a little basic and spoils the shower experience.

The lady who checked my friend in the day before. Thursday the 4th was not very friendly I witnessed her reception. Everything was a bother. (Lady shoulder length grey hair) The lady who checked me in ( long blonde hair) was friendly and welcoming, nothing was a problem. Also the waitress who served us breakfast on Sunday morning was exceedingly rude. Adamant manner when breakfast order was wrong. Saying that’s what we ordered which we didn’t as my friend does not like tomatoes and never has. Just rude! Mistakes happen and i appreciate that however her tone and rude manner was unacceptable. Apart from those 2 staff members the Hotel was lovely and all other staff delightful especially housekeeping. I would stay there again if down that neck of the woods.

Lovely room which was a good size. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Good selection for breakfast. After a day walking the borders abbeys way we were really pleased to find out bags had already been put in our room for us. Also really.impreased by the early check-in time and late checkout time which have us a lot of flexibility.

We had to confirm several times that we wanted a twin room so were disappointed to find that it was more or less set up as a double with 2 duvets. Also received a lot of messages asking us to click on external links to fill in information. We didn't do this and it made absolutely no difference to our stay.

Hotel was clean and comfortable, location was perfect for me as I was attending a family funeral. Bathroom was modern with a great shower. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming. The breakfast had plenty of choice and was served quickly.

I had a single room that was very small with a partially obstructed view of the car park. It was fine for a one night stay but if staying longer for a holiday would recommend booking a double. I had quite a lot of repetitive emails before I arrived asking if I wanted dinner.

This hotel is lovely with a very interesting historical building in a very attractive town centre with a fantastic view of the architecture of buildings & hills. Bedroom looks great & comfortable to sleep or rest … bathroom is nice & modern style. This location is brilliant for exploring more historic places, shopping areas & more leisure activities. Foods are incredibly amazing & delicious because I fall in love with the wonderful local Scottish Borders cuisine so much … also there are plenty of excellent-quality drinks … honestly it surprises me how much I pay those really good prices in value. Staff are absolutely great, friendly & helpful for treated me with superb service in a very nice deaf-friendly hospitality. I will definitely be coming back to stay in this lovely hotel again. 10 out of 10 - excellent & superb !!!

I managed to drop my car off a little earlier and checked in at the end of the day. My room was a single one so fairly compact but it did the job and I think the bed was much bigger than a regular single. The bathroom had nice toiletries in it and a lovely heated towel rail. Slept like a log! The food was exceptional. I had the steak and peppercorn sauce for dinner followed by sticky toffee pudding. The pudding was drowning in sauce so absolute perfection. My breakfast the next morning was equally impressive. I've never had a potato scone so thick! Nice proper fruit juice as well not cheap nasty stuff. Had a great time and would stay again when visiting Melrose or if not planning to stay definitely have lunch there. Wee doggie on arrival was a definite bonus too.

My room had no heating on when I arrived but warmed up quickly, certainly not anything to put me off.

Delightful! Beautiful. Well maintained. Wonderful food and staff. Perfect location. Clean as a whistle. Unobtrusive efficient friendly service. Perfect for a weekend stay. Particularly lovely dining room and cosy bar where we also ate.

Nothing! Stairs rather than a lift a bit of a challenge for oldies, but we were offered help with bags. The stairway gives character and the hotel gave us a first floor room because my partner has mobility issues. Parking to hand so no long carries. Quiet but central location- great for wandering delightful town and no traffic at night.

The staff were friendly and very efficient, they were very helpful regarding a last minute cancellation in our group. the location was excellent with good parking space. The food was very good, especially breakfast,. The wholemeal bread was excellent, good butter and the eggs had lovely bright yolks ? Locally sourced.

My single room although well appointed otherwise looked on to the dining room roof. There was no view at all which made it a bit dingy and depressing. Brighter decor or A really bright mural or picture might have helped a bit.

We stayed here during a cycling trip along the Coast and Castles route. The hotel is perfectly situated for this purpose as indeed it is for the new Scottish Coast to Coast route. From arrival, the staff could not have been more helpful. Drying facilities were offered to wet cyclists. Bikes were safely stored under cover (a new outdoor cycle store with Ebike charging is planned). The evening meal in the restaurant was absolutely superb and the breakfast options were again excellent. The highlight of our bike tour!!

This hotel is well established and long running and you feel it here. A warm and welcome feeling upon arrival persisted throughout our four day/three night stay. We had dinner twice in the main dining room which is more formal than the pub atmosphere around the bar. The food was delicious and the white table cloth service flawless. Breakfasts in the pub area—included in our rate—were also first rate and, again, with service to match. We’d make a point of staying here again.
