Downstairs was a relaxing and comfortable experience, both in the bar in the evening and in the morning during breakfast.

We did enjoy our stay, however we found the room to be very basic and in need of some TLC and the price we paid for the room for 1 night was a little expensive considering the basic room lacking the TLC and no breakfast included. The cost of the breakfast was quite a bit extra on top of what we'dalready paid for a very basic room, however the breakfast was nice and the service and staff experience was both pleasant and friendly.

Loved the feeling of the hotel, ancient , timbered, lots of nooks and crannies, full of character. Generally happy with the room and the Tudor windows and the bed which was very comfy. Roll top bath in the Bathroom with shower attachment, looked great, but the water pressure was not consistent, it did get hot, sometimes very hot! The bar was good, lots of atmosphere, not cheap but enjoyed it. The serving staff were great particularly the woman who served us breakfast the next day, the lady with the red hair and fab eye make up - she was a hoot. I'd go back to the hotel just because she works there ! We were woken by noise outside in the early hours, people who were talking very loudly and clearly coming back from a late bar or club but I know the hotel can't control this and to be expected when the hotel is right in the centre of town. I'd definitely go back, really enjoyed the stay.

The staff were great..Lorraine in particular, who made sure we were looked after.... There was a problem with a leak from the ensuite, so breakfast was on the house, and full attention was given.to ensure we enjoyed a lovely breakfast.

I didn't like the bath in the ensuite, I am not heavy, but as I stood in it for a shower it felt like it needed reinforcement, as it felt like it was going to give way at any point.. Fortunately it didn't , and was probably okay, but I felt uneasy in it, so I had a rushed shower., I was given a new room to shower in the following day, after a problem with a leak, and that walk in shower was perfect !

Excellent location in the centre of town! Car park at the rear for hotel guests only. The stairs up to the rooms would be a challenge for anyone unsteady on their feet - no lift. The room was small with a high small window so it was quite dark. There was no where in the bathroom to put anything! No handles in the walk in shower - no where in the shower to put toiletries! Breakfast was cooked to order & delicious. We ate in the restaurant & the food was very good quality & very enjoyable. The bar area is very busy & it was really hard to obtain a seat. Most of the staff were very friendly & chatty. Shops, bars, cafes, restaurants & riverside walks all on the doorstep!

There needs to be shelving in the bathroom to put toiletries.

Amazing 16th century building. Right in the centre of town with a great market and interesting shops. Modern fittings in bathrooms. We had a private function room for family dinner of 30 including small children for which the staff were great. Good breakfast - table service, not buffet.

The downside of such an old building is some compromise on modern comforts. Water for shower very slow to heat up in the morning and when it did the pressure was very low. Uneven corridors and wonky stairs are very cute but not recommended for anyone unsteady on their feet! The private function meal was well organised with excellent service but a bit pricey for what was essentially pub style food. Saturday night in Nantwich is noisy for street-facing rooms.

Staff were amazing, breakfast excellent, location excellent. We were a group of 8 with bicycles, on a busy bank holiday weekend, with a wedding going on but they helped us in every way possible and did not make us feel in the way. They helped us carry the bikes up the old staircase. The hotel is full of character being over 400 years old.

Our room only had a skylight so couldn't look outside at all. Unfortunately they were fully booked so couldn't move us to another room. But they were so pleasant and helpful in every other way possible so it didn't spoil the stay. The room turned out to be quiet too and we slept well. The hotel is very old so wonky floors and steep stairs and there is no lift so not good for anybody with mobility issues. The was not an issue for us.

The hotel is incredibly old and therefore quirky, but the facilities were modern enough and clean. The bed was comfortable. The staff were all very friendly. The hotel is brilliantly situated in the town centre but we didn't hear any noise even though our room overlooked the shopping street. There is free car parking. We had the light breakfast for just under £10 and thought it was good value - cereal, toast, juice, we each chose an omelette, and tea or coffee. Would recommend this hotel highly.

We had two glasses of wine in the bathroom and thought they were expensive.

Fantastic staff, couldn’t do enough for us. Although the hotel has free parking, it is in a height restricted area and we were in a van, they quickly found us somewhere else to park so that we didn’t have to pay the overnight fee in the pay and display carpark. Some of the hotel is very old with floors, walls and staircases being very uneven which just added to the charm and atmosphere of the hotel. I was surprised, as we stayed mid week, that the bar and restaurant were so busy with guests and locals! We managed to get a cosy table in front of the coal fire though to have a drink from the well stocked bar. Breakfast was delicious, everything cooked to order with tasty produce. Had a lovely walk around the town, a beautiful little place. Plenty of shops, pubs, coffee shops and historical buildings to keep you busy! Again, I was surprised how busy the town was, lots of people out and about, enjoying what the town had to offer. We had dinner in the hotel, again, all the food was freshly prepared and delicious. They have a Wine Wednesday which means you pay for one glass of wine with your meal and they top it up for free while you are eating (2 hours max) Great value! Our room was very comfortable and lovely and bright. All in all, we had a lovely stay and were well looked after! A big thank you to all the staff, who clearly enjoy working there as it shows in how they go about their duties, always with a smile!

Good food. A character building, lots of interest in the features of the accommodation. Well maintained in spite of age challenges. Excellent location and parking provided. One exceptional member of staff called Zoe. She made our stay enjoyable . Delightful town

Because the building is very old, floors sloped and air flow could be better in room. Water took a long time to warm because of age of building.But expected, given that we wanted to stay in an historic building. First beer, Salopian, was far too cold

How often do we get to stay in an establishment that was built in 1585??? Keeping that in mind, we could not compare the delightful quirkiness of twisty staircases and uneven floors to our average reservation. Our breakfast was delicious. The room was exceptionally quiet. The friendly staff, including Alex at reception, was outstanding.

My bed was a bit lumpy and saggy-- not as old as 1585, but it did have some age on it. My husbands bed did not!
