Breakfast: very traditional Full English. All laid out and easy to help yourself. The dog could sit with me (although in the bar area. Room: spacious and comfy. Dinner: there was space to have the dog with me (bar area). Location: Excellent despite storm BERT.
Breakfast: Was lukewarm. Eggs (fried AND scrambled) were overcooked. Plates were cold which didn't help with the lukewarm food. Coffee was machine self-service (this could have been table service). Room: A lot of niggling maintenance issues which, if I was staying longer, I would have reported (reported on check-out). Dinner: The waiter was forgetful - This could be remedied with the use of tablet/computer ordering (many pubs do this why can't a 4-star hotel?). Even a notepad and pencil would have helped. Location: Post Code does not always take you to the front drive. If you are arriving later, and in the dark, it is easy to miss the entrance to the impressive drive (It could have been my Sat Nav).

The new wing was nice, the old wing was spectacular but obviously more expensive (we upgraded for last 2 nights of our 8 night stay). Everything was very clean. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Special mention to Will and Dawn for their attention. And thanks to Peter for taking the time to show us their herb garden. As to food, would recommend the pea soup with mint and the baked scottish sea trout as the best dishes.
Sadly we found the food and service in the restaurant poor in comparison with the rest of the establishment. Even though the waiters were all very nice, most seemed to lack the necessary experience to attend to the customers quickly and efficiently, possibly also due to the mishmash organising of their duties (everyone doing a bit of everything). As it also advertises as a Spa, we were surprised there was so little option of healthier meals with more vegetables and salads, as most meals seemed to be fried and/or came with chips.

The hotel is clean and the rooms are quite spacious. Staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good. Nice bar area and food in Brasserie very good.
The shower was so powerful it was unpleasant. There was no way of lowering the pressure. The pressure was so high the jet had to come out the top of the shower head. Only shower gel provided no hair products. The lighting in the bathroom is poor. I couldn't see what I was doing in the mirror which made getting ready a challenge. Needs some form of spotlight in bathroom area. The mirror in the cupboard was not of any use.

The location, entrance, building and room were great. Overall it did the job and is a stunning building. The sauna was nice and the changing rooms were good.
The staff were not particularly helpful, they did enough but no extra. When I got there the instruction of where my room was a bit vague, I ended up getting lost on the way. On the way out around 9.30 I left in my booking and was told that I may not be able to use the spa/gym. This was then clarified that they meant after 11am but was a bit confusing and felt like it would have been better to say "yes, you can until 11am", rather than "they might not let you, it's at their discretion". The breakfast was OK, fairly average and a lot of people even at 7am

Room was stunning - spotlessly clean and very comfortable and luxurious. Having an early check in was a bonus and was welcome. Staff very friendly.
Dinner menu was a little limited in the brasserie. Items from room service menu not included so it was a little confusing. Difficult to get a diet soda. Asked for some lime cordial to put in sparkling water and were given half a pint of neat cordial which was very odd. Would have liked a complimentary bottle of water in room. I think the ones in the mini bar were probably chargeable. Housekeeping knocking on door again 10.50 as we were about to leave - felt a little rushed and we weren't late checking out. Steam room not very steamy, hot tub a little small

Staff were really accommodating and brought up requests quickly during and before we arrived at the hotel. I loved the comfort of the shower having bigger bottles of shampoo’s and conditioners rather than typical small tester size bottles or sachets. I think this is a lovely touch. The building was absolutely beautiful and peaceful however still a crowd in the bars for the social aspect. Our stay had been booked for a birthday celebration and we did get a little silly in the room however left alone with no noise complaints. I loved the different settings on the shower in the spa with an option for a tropical storm which was luxuriously refreshing.
The coffee machine was a bit faulty during breakfast and had been seated on a table right next to it so our breakfast felt invaded by a queue of customers waiting for the coffee machine. This wasn’t a great allocation of seating arrangements for anyone during a busy breakfast morning. The waiter did offer to relocate us but the table had already been set for us so didn’t want to hassle him. The spa jacuzzi was very small so never got to go in and 2 women occupied it for the whole 30 minutes we were in the spa facilities.

Room was clean and very comfortable, however on the second night we got a loud buzzing/ humming sound in our room. Directly out side in the corridor was what we think was the air conditioning unit for the floors rooms. The hotel did offer to move us to another room. The buffet breakfast was lovely and topped up regularly. However be careful if you decide to dine a little later in the evening we were turned away from the brasserie told last orders are at 9.15pm we arrived at 9.17pm? Found out after going to Mc Donald’s down the road we could have in fact ordered room service until 10. THE SHERIDAN BAR STAFF The new Sheridan bar is beautiful relaxed, welcoming and the cocktails are made really well. Recommend their Old Fashioned and Sir Ranulph. The guys on the bar are so polite and are A asset to the company well done and thank you for your professionalism and making our time in the bar an enjoyable one.
Turned away from the restaurant, and not informed we could still order room service until 10pm.

Friendly staff, nice big clean rooms with separate shower and bath. Free access to gym and swimming pool that is big enough to actually swim in. Good selection at breakfast. For the price we paid it was great value for money.
It doesn't significantly detract from the stay but most of the rooms are in a building that looks more like a motorway services. The rooms themselves are great but I did feel that more effort could be put into the design and landscaping around the building to make the most of the setting rather than feeling like you were in a car park or city centre hotel. We only went into the main building for check-in and check-out and did think it would have been nice to at least be able to use it for breakfast. There is parking stuck around all of the buildings but it would have been nicer if this was contained in one or two of the main car parks and then having the space back for some planting and areas to sit outside, especially when there are so many lovely old buildings.

The old hall itself is incredible, its level of character is off the chart. Jacobean woodwork, a chapel, it's everything a Travelodge isn't. Normally I let thrift sway my judgement when booking, but on this occasion I went for a four poster room in the old building, and don't regret it at all. It's a night we'll remember for a long time. A nice touch was the minibar, it had a couplf of beers in it, two bottle of Coke, and two small bottles of wine.., These, it transpired, were complimentary. We had a wander around the gardens before we left. They're pretty impressive, and it's fair to say your typical Novotel can't boast the handiwork of Capability Brown. This was a treat for us. Normally I'd spend perhaps half as much, but you've got to spoil yourself sometimes? I felt we had great value though, and would strongly recommend.
Breakfast in the new part of the building was all very standard and regular. It was perfectly adequate, but it felt a bit charmless in there having been in the part of the hotel that's 300 years older.

The place Is steeped in history. It appeared to be very well run and the place was immaculate.
The food was overly Expensive @ £100 pounds for A basic steak And a curry with two drinks! I don’t mind paying £100 a meal as long as it’s worth it. The food here simply was not. The bar by the reception was lovely, however @ £29 pounds a round for two drinks with a £15 minute wait ,we won’t be visiting It again. You would think higher prices would keep out the “riff raff” , however we were woken up several times In the night by groups of people returning to their rooms using profound language.
