Excellent breakfast and dinner, perfectly cooked and presented, courteous and helpful well-trained restaurant staff. Public areas in the White Lion were supplied with ample heating and were comfortably equipped. Despite the rambling nature of the old Inn, corridors and passage ways are well- lit, heated and sign-posted, it is difficult to get lost.

Reception is at the back of the bar area, not routinely manned and bar staff are always busy, it wasn't possible to get bar staff's assistance quickly. Our room was equipped for a single guest, and it was a little irritating to hunt for help in the bar to get a second towel and room refreshments. Having a pre-booked room quickly checked in advance for appropriate supplies would fix that.

We only stayed a night as we were travelling up north. The room was relatively essential but cozy and clean. Very convenient to have the restaurant in the hotel, so we'd easily have dinner (and it was very nice. The burgers are highly recommended!). After dinner we grabbed a drink in the pub which was nice too (appreciated the perk of not having to drive to go back to our hotel, so we'd have wine over dinner and a dinner after). Breakfast was very nice as well, with a variety of options. It's a shame we arrived quite late as it'd have been nice to have dinner in the lovely outdoor area.

Nothing in particular. We chose the dinner + breakfast option and maybe it'd have been clearer was was included for dinner and what not. But nothing that made the stay less pleasant at all. And, again, dinner food was delish, so no real complains

Grounds were well kept. Great beer garden. Man on reception very friendly and explained everything to us. We had lunch in the bar area. Food was tasty and hot... big portions 😱. Staff were friendly and attentive. Dinner in the restaurant later was really good. My trout was cooked to perfection. Hubby had short rib which he really enjoyed. The staff again were really pleasant and service was great. The room was nicely done out and clean. We would definitely return.

The bathroom was small but adequate.... the seal at the bottom of the shower needed replacing. The mattress was VERY springy on the bed. It could benefit from being changed for a better nights sleep

What did we like? Everything! We stay at the White Lion usually twice a year on our way South from visiting relatives in Blackpool. So the location close to the M6 is convenient. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Rooms are well equipped and comfortable. The food is always top notch, tasty and plentiful. We especially like sitting outside in the beer garden next to the bowls green enjoying a drink in the early evening sunshine. An excellent hotel and pub.

The rooms were marvellous, the beds were mostly comfortable and the location was brilliant for my needs. The thing that I loved the most was the staff. They were superb, friendly and most accommodating. Even when things did not go to plan, they were more than willing to help and ready to get it sorted. For example, I had to extend my stay due to a cancellation and they were more than accommodating. When I had to change a room, they were more supportive.

Considering that the hotel met all my expectations, I find it hard to find a downside. The only quibble I would have to say was the fact that when I had to change rooms, I was having difficulties with my lock. However, once I mentioned this to the staff, they had it fixed immediately. They did not dismiss my concerns and I greatly appreciated the fact that they took it seriously.

Attractive hotel in pleasant rural surroundings, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere

Really didn't like the open plan design of the dining area, particularly as our room was at one entrance to the dining area and the dining and bar staff were at the other. Some days we could sit where we wished. Other days staff expected us to check with them before being allocated dining space. It doesn't work well, frankly.

Check-in was seamless and quick; rooms were located across the hall from each other, and very well appointed. The Pub was comfortable; and the dining room was fantastic. Our party enjoyed dinner and breakfast at the White Lion. The breakfast buffet plus the hot offerings were enjoyed by all.

I was on the main floor and could hear the creaking of the floor above me; but due to the age of the building, I suspect this is normal. The creaking did not keep me awake. I did mention upon check-out, that the mattress needed to be flipped, as I felt i was leaning to the right on it all night.

Arrived to find large car park then very friendly reception. Excellent room with up to date bathroom and great shower. Dinner was excellent with great service in spite of being short-staffed with two big parties. A few items unavailable on wine list but we coped! The Eggs Benedict for breakfast next morning couldn't be bettered. Great stop off in a 17th C pub near M6. But mind your head in the bar if you are tall!

A warm welcome on a cold day. Very generous portions of food and nicely cooked and presented The room was nicely furnished and comfortable. All the staff were friendly and polite. Very convenient for M6 connection.

There were one or two minor problems with the bathroom, but these were mentioned to the person checking us out in the morning, who made a note of them, and apologised.

A lovely hotel in a village location . If wanting to go into the local towns pre book taxis as we struggled however the hotel were more than accommodating with anything we requested or needed. Food in the restaurant was excellent, woth the breakfast being cooked fresh to order with lots of choice!

As we were a ground floor room our window did have garden seating right outside, this did mean Friday night we closed our window as guests were having a drink right outside. It wasn't a major issue, considering the venue is a pub so to be expected however if it was qn especially busy evening we may have struggled to settle so easy.
