We'd always stayed at either Premier Inn or Travelodge on past trips to Portsmouth but annoyed by the new parking charge at PI and having had a recent dreadful experience at Travelodge Wellingborough, I chose this hotel with some trepidation but was encouraged by another reviewer who suggested it was a great alternative to the national brands. I needn't have worried! We got a warm welcome and found all the staff to be really friendly and helpful. The choice at breakfast was really good, and the hot breakfast was tasty and excellently cooked. The ability to park for free either directly outside or on the street (with parking permit provided) was really useful, and the location was ideal for what we needed. Will certainly stay here again!

Sometimes we were able to hear people moving about in other rooms above and at the side of us (we were on the ground floor), but it didn't detract from our stay. Some of the decor in our room was looking a bit tired and needed refreshing. Would be nice to have a proper temperature controlled shower fitting or, even better, convert the bath to a walk in shower for those of us that prefer not to climb into a bath without having to book a more expensive, luxury room.

Location - right by the sea on a quiet residential road Breakfast - fruit/yoghurt/cereal options & a nice menu of cooked options to choose from Staff - everyone I spoke to was lovely, friendly & helpful Great service - there was a bathroom leak in the first room I was given, and I was immediately transferred to another room Cleanliness - everywhere was spotless, including the bedroom & bathroom Bed was incredibly comfy!

Minor things really! FYI - the hotel is about a 45 minute walk from the centre/where the university buildings are. I enjoyed the walking but I know some others may be less active The heating was on and took a while to cool down even after I turned it off/to low on the radiator My room was near the top of the house so the water pressure was slightly patchy at times

We stayed in the 'Glorious' room and it was fab, dark, moody, sexy vibe with the amazing corner jacuzzi bath. Bed so comfy we had a fantastic night's sleep. we actually overslept and missed breakfast! Free WiFi and a list at reception (we took a photos of it ) of very close by restaurants/food places but we got a uber to a hungry horse as we fancied some cheap cheerful food we know, so we found one in fratton, was 10 minutes away and it was £8 each way.

No didn't likes, just would suggest..... a extention lead in the room, as wasn't enough sockets for today's needs (2 phone chargers, mini speaker, the heater) maybe a shelf on wall on the left side of the bed as there was no room for another bedside table but would be nice to put your phone and a drink somewhere close by. More towels and a big bath mat as floor got quite wet with us in and out of the bath, and the towels stayed damp as there's nowhere to hang them except on the shower door handles! Some hooks on the wall would have been ideal. Other than those suggestions, we would definitely stay there again, really really nice place.

Room excellent, Breakfast excellent and all staff very attentive and friendly. Close to good bus services to centre was very helpfulwhilst being in a quiet location of an evening. Would happily return there if we visited Portsmouth again

Room a little too hot, Radiators were on and some did not adjust according to the thermostat setting - moved to "frost safe" but still getting very hot. Wash basin plug continually let water seep out so had to keep topping up the water in the basin. All very minor but at some cost to the hotel as I assume they are charged using a water meter. So wasting water flowing away from the basin when the plug is in does not make good economic sense!

Great location with off road parking (if you get there early enough to be in the "First Five"). Breakfast was incredibly tasty and exactly what I asked for (a toasted white bread sandwich with crispy bacon) with good continental selection and selection of juices with proper sized glasses not those tiny ones in chain hotels. Jacuzzi bath was the reason I booked the hotel and it was much needed, although a tip is to start it running while doing something else as took ages to fill. Staff were really pleasant especially the chef at breakfast. There's a bar in the hotel which was a nice touch although I didn't use it, and didn't appear overly priced from the drinks list in the room info pack.

The room although decorated well has some serious signs of wear and tear particularly on the flooring. You have to remember to lock the door upon entrance and exit otherwise it doesn't auto lock, something that should be highlighted in the welcome pack or at check in. See above about the time it takes to fill the bath. Also the shower wasn't very powerful on either setting which was a shame as a fantastic size for a bigger bloke like me.

Lovely hotel near to Canoe Lake. 5 spaces on drive and permits for road spaces. Quiet road. Bus stop outside for buses to the Dockyard and Gunwharf etc. Lovely room at the front with a big bay window and plenty of space. Blackout curtains, Tea and coffee etc Nice big bed. Desk and chair. Huge mirror on the wall and another on the desk. Sockets in various places. Staff very helpful about parking and buses. Nice breakfast room and served very promptly. Various choices but yoghurt would have been nice. We saw family, went out to eat, used the buses, visited Mary Rose exhibition in the Dockyard and had Sunday lunch most within walking distance. Loads of pubs and eateries.

Just a few suggestions not dislikes really. There was one comfortable chair but plenty of space for 2 chairs and a small side table would be nice. I am average height but the mirror in the bathroom was almost too high for me to use - can you hang it portrait rather than landscape perhaps? A couple of hooks for coats near the door woud have been great and something to put a small case on? The bathroom door handle banged against the hand basin every time - I put a towel on the sink as I worried the basin would break. But none of this spoiled our stay which wa great.

Excellent service from the staff we interacted with, nothing was too much trouble. I've recently had a full replacement knee operation and still need to use ice packs occasionally so asked if I could keep a couple of gel pads in one of their freezers, no problem at all and insisted on fetching them for me whenever I needed one. We had a good sized room, very comfortable bed and on the ground floor so no stairs to contend with. We managed yo park on the drive which takes 5 cars but there isn't a problem parking on the road if its full, they give you a permit. Great location too as its an easy 5 minute walk into Southseas Albert Road for a variety of places to eat. There is a bus stop just outside which runs regularly into Portsmouth centre, Gunwharf Quay, Historic Dockyard etc for £2 each way

From the minute I arrived…the receptionist couldn’t have been kinder… She had seen that I had hurt my arm and had requested a ground floor… They were unable to give me a room but helped carry my bags upstairs. I needed to work as my workplace had been closed due to the weather and she let me check in earlier. The room was lovely and the bed was comfortable. I got a take away in the evening and again another lovely receptionist got a bowl and cutlery for me. I have already booked for my next stay and would highly recommend this lovely hotel and its very kind staff.

Staff very friendly and keen to see if anything I needed. The room was very clean and very large. If you're just knackered from too many amazing old boats in Portsmouth, and just want a clean bed for the night, the many mirrors, chrome shininess and bold decor might feel a bit off-kilter, but that feeling passes quickly enough. A lot of thought and effort seems to have gone into making the decor something special and different - one of staff said it was a honeymoon favourite, so that makes sense, and last minute solo traveller guy's taste can be safely ignored. Others have mentioned the breakfast arrangements - completely agree it is one of the best sorted and best value breakfasts going.

I did not get the room with the giant shoe chair [see the hotel's pics].

This property is a gem! Set within easy walking distance to Canoe Lake and the seafront on one side and a great eat street on the other, G! Boutique is in a brilliant location. There is a bus stop at the front door which allowed us to get to the Naval dockyards quickly for only £2 each. The property has some parking at the front which is a bonus. The room was a good size and decorated with panache. Each room has a “G” name. Ours was Glittering and came with a sparkling sequin bed runner. The bed was comfortable, the linen and towels of excellent quality and there was tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The bathroom had a shower over a bath and was compact but functional. The room was pristine, as were all the common areas. The staff were 5 star. Nothing was too much trouble. They were all young, bright and cheerful. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choices. G! Boutique was quiet, comfortable and without doubt the best accomodation we have stayed in this trip.

The only irritation - and it is minor - is the bedside tables were tiny.
