Great location in the High Street of Rochester, with many small shops and cafes. No food is served on the premises, which is not a problem at all as there is a good variety of cafe's and restaurants along the High Street. Costa's do a delicious chocolate frappe and is only a 3 min walk away. Morley's Bakery make a delicious Kentish 'Gypsy Tart' which was a highlight for me as it took me back to my childhood. The Gordon House Hotel is right across the road from Rochester Cathedral which is just beautiful. Also, the bed, doona and pillows were heavenly in comfort. Room 10 is a beautiful room.
What could have been better - a larger sized shower with a smaller shower head. Room 10 is a beautiful room though.

Ideally located on the historic High Street and very near to the Cathedral and Castle. Perfectly placed for quaint shops and various places to eat, offering a variety of cuisines. The Gordon Fish & Chip Shop next door is also owned by them. From the street, the building looks unassuming until you walk through the front door into a building full of character, that comes with age. A warm welcome was given upon arrival. Check-in was straightforward and car parking was available in their private car park at the rear. The key card allowed access to both my room and the entrance doors (front and rear). My room was at the back of the property on the first floor. It was comfortable with a safe, iron, ironing board, desk top fan, TV and tea/coffee making facilities. Beside one of the twin beds was a radio alarm clock with USB charging points. The bathroom was small but practical with complimentary toiletries, shaving point, shower, hand basin and toilet.
The traffic noise seemed loud during the early hours of the morning, due to traffic revving up on the main road. There wasn't currently a restaurant on site but breakfast was available if you wanted it (I chose to eat elsewhere). There was a bar but it wasn't open whenever I walked past reception, perhaps due to it being midweek.

This hotel is charming and in the perfect location to explore the Rochester area. It is quiet, the rooms are comfy and clean. This is an old building, and privately run, and with that in mind, it is in excellent condition. But it won't be perfect, and I would encourage visitors to have reasonable expectations. If you do, this is a more than satisfying place to stay. Also, the breakfast was delicious and the dining room is lovely.
Our only issue was that the temperature of the shower water was stuck on very hot. However, the staff were quick to provide the key for another room for use of the shower. The only reason we weren't moved to the other room was that we needed two twin beds. We found this solution satisfactory, and handled promptly.

The room was lovely and comfortable and had a lovely view of the cathedral. Unfortunately, because we stayed mid-week, the restaurant was not open (it is open at weekends only) so we did not eat at there. As here are many restaurants and cafes nearby this wasn't a problem. The location is excellent. Everything of interest is just a short walk from the hotel, with the cathedral and castle being a 2/3 minute walk away. We also really liked the fact that the hotel has its own private car park. It made parking so much easier and more convenient.
The stairs up to our room (we were on the top floor (3rd)) was a bit of a slog, especially with luggage. I don't think there was a lift at the hotel although we didn't enquire to be honest. We would stay on the top floor again (the same room would be nice) so the stairs couldn't have been that bad!

The hotel was in a perfect location - mid high street and with parking for nominal charge - for our one-night stay which meant easy short walks to visit the Abbey and Castle and explore the town. The lady owner and staff were so friendly and accommodating. Our room and bathroom immaculately clean and comfortable, the bathroom generously stocked with toiletries as indeed was the tea and coffee making facilities. We did not have breakfast purely because we were leaving to meet up with friends for brunch. This was a stop-over for us, but we'll definitely visit and stay at the Gordon House Hotel again.
The only thing I would say is that perhaps an inclusion of a hand rail in the bathroom to aid getting in and out of the over-the-bath shower.

The room was large and comfortable with period decor. It was located in the historic High Street almost opposite the cathederal so there are plenty of amenities close by. There is parking right behind the hotel but the charge is £10. The staff are friendly and helpful. Toiletries were good and the addition of a coffee machine in the room was a bonus. The free wifi was good quality.
Not all services are available during the week. Breakfast is only available as an extra at weekends, and it appears that the bar and restaurant were also closed when we stayed on a Wednesday.

Friendly owner who gave us her leftover turkey sandwiches, and nice non- greasy cooked breakfasts. Very comfortable and spacious room with a bathtub.. Right in the historic area.
Two minor problems. The top floor couldn't get wi-fi for our laptop, so we had to change rooms (in fact, to a nicer one). The bath didn't have side bars, so it was difficult for someone my age to get out of it without slipping. (A rubber mat might help a bit).

The Gordon Hotel is located very centrally in the ancient city of Rochesters’ delightful high street and opposite the Cathedral and Castle. There was a warm welcome by the hotel owner who was very helpful. This hotel exudes charm, with its beautiful reception hallway and cozy bar and conversation areas. The restaurant opens at weekends and in high season, as does the breakfast room, but there are plenty of eateries close by at other times. Not to be missed is The Cheese Shops’ outdoors patio grassed area in front of the castle, just off the high Street, a splendid place to enjoy breakfast and brunch. The standard bedroom that I stayed in was of a good size, comfortable and pleasantly decorated. The hotel also offers deluxe bedrooms, which are accessed from a lovely sweeping staircase. There’s a plan to return to this lovely, interesting and very convenient hotel, so as to spend more time visiting Rochesters’ amazing historic places and quirky shops, right on its doorsteps.

The Hotel was in a perfect location to visit Rochester High Street the Cathedral and Castle. The Hotel was not staffed at all times, but there were staff there when needed. The breakfast was really good, freshly cooked and plenty of choice with the cereals, fresh fruit and drinks. Our room was over looking the High Street and very clean and tidy, could probably do with a new coat of paint in the near future, as there were slight patches on the walls. The facilities in the room were also good, tea, coffee etc.
The only downside was that we had to pay an extra £10.00 per night for parking. This I found to be quite expensive considering we paid £170.00 for 2 nights. This could have been included. Although this was clearly advertised on the booking. Just think it should have been included in the cost.

The staff were extremely welcoming, helpful, and friendly. We were delayed on our journey down and weren't able to make it before 10 pm. They very kindly stayed until we arrived at 11.30pm and welcomed us despite the very late arrival. It's the perfect location to explore the area on foot. The parking in back was perfect, and there's a cute little seating area out back, where I enjoyed my morning coffee. I'd definitely stay again if I'm back in the area.
The bed wasn't the most comfortable unfortunately.
