The hotel was cheaper than others in the area. Despite being cheaper, it was fine. There was heaters in the room you could control and I hate being cold, but this place got really hot if you want to (it's Winter), so that was great. The room was really big and clean, lots of space. There is a TV with loads of channels and satellite. There was a kettle and sachets to make drinks. There was no sound on our TV and so we asked reception and they fixed it - they were really quick and helpful. The hotel is just a few minutes walk from the high street, it's so close - so we went and had breakfast in the highstreet. It was Boxing Day but a lot was open still. We parked our car there with no problem. The breakfast is £10 extra, but we had breakfast in a cafe in the highstreet. We would stay again
While the carpets are clean and the place is clean, the carpets could do with a bit of a deep wash to remove stains. There are external stairs at the back if you enter from the back and the stairs are small, spiral stairs which are difficult to go up with bags. However, we found it easier to just walk 1 minute and enter via the front, so there is this option as well. We did ask about the breakfast before arriving, via the messaging on booking.com, and were told there isn't any (it was Boxing Day) but then received another message saying there was - which confused us, however, it is much nicer anyway to go and have breakfast in a cafe in the highstreet, a few minutes walk away.

You can't grumble at the low price of The Charles Hotel. The room was large and warm and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was good and the free parking is an added bonus. With the station nearby, it makes a good base from which to explore the area.
Aspects of the hotel felt a bit neglected. One of the bedroom windows was badly cracked, bits of trim had come loose from the radiators and the corridors and staircases had a musty smell. The spiral staircase / fire escape leading to the car park is not for the faint-hearted! However, the price of the room offsets all this.

Staff were very helpful and friendly. Free car park at rear with easy access via spiral staircase. Reception comfortable with coffee available. Room was clean with good space for luggage and hanging clothes. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was especially smart and clean- nice shower. Fire exits were clearly marked and very accessible. Indian restaurant was exceptionally good.
The stairs to first floor were a bit grubby. The window in the room looked out onto a flat roof that was strewn with rubbish. The cooked breakfast we had wasn’t good - but that was compensated for by not charging us. The cereal was ok. Maybe offer just cereal and toast would be better. Guests could help themselves.

I like the location of the hotel. I like the reception area and the open garden at the back of the reception. In fact, I went there to chill at a time.
The only major problem with the hotel is that the hotel doesn't have a fridge in the room. The worst of it all is that the hotel doesn't even have a fridge in the reception area which a customer can make use of. I specifically asked the receptionist for a fridge where I can preserve my food overnight, but I was told there's none which a customer could use. I was told the only one in the reception is being used for selling drinks. So, I couldn't preserve my food overnight. So, the hotel should get a fridge for customer

Breakfast was not included. The location is excellent, very close to the railway station, the town centre and not far from the bus station. The Sultan restaurant is worth the visit, good meals and friendly staff.
The room was rather small and the view limited. I stayed there last year in October and the price semed reasonable. This time it was considerably more expensive, which brings into question value for money. I may have to look for somewhere cheaper next time. TV channels were poor, the connection was faulty, some channels were unavailable.

We have stayed at the triple deluxe room in the first floor. Spacious comfortable room. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. I liked the modern look of the bathroom. The furniture was also modern and comfortable. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming. The receptionist was kind enough to help me with the luggage as there were no lift.
No lift, which makes the property unacceptable for disabled. The hot water in our room was on and off. Had a key outside the bathroom to switch the hot water on and off, which I found a little unusual for hotel establishment. Despite the key for hot water was on, there were still issues with the hot water running off and on. However, we didn’t made the hotel staff aware because it was for short periods.

Clean Room, Comfortable Bed, Great Back Light behind Head Board, and the double glazing was great, particularly as they had kept the old sash windows on the outside which gave the front of the building its period look. There was even a round stain in the middle of the carpet but we decided that it came from an Agatha Christie novel where the victim is murdered by the now missing chandelier which was loosend enough to drop on him whilst he was doing his daily Yoga, thus pearcing his heart and causing him death by glass.... Therefore the Light caused his Darkness. Brian
The toilet roll holder was broken but the guy did not seem to know what was wrong, he just gave us extra toilet rolls. We had to stop him though as it was getting harder to get into the room with the Great Wall Of Paper.

The double room was a good size, clean and comfortable. The towels and bedding also clean and the (memory foam) mattress was extremely comfortable. TV, coffee and tea making facilities, pedestal fan were available as well as heating. The shower room modern and clean, albeit compact. Hairdryer and iron available on request.
Upon parking at the back of the hotel, the signage for Reception led me up a steep metal spiral staircase. Having reached the top and upon entering Reception I discovered there was a front door leading to the street which I could walk around to get back to my car.

The service in the restaurant was 10/10 aswell as the food! The staff were so welcoming and really made it a pleasant time for me and my friend, I've not laughed so much in my life in one evening! All in all it was a pleasant experience the staff over compensated and it was a very lovely experience. Big shout out to the waiter MR BOBBY & the two lovely brothers who own the hotel! Fabulous people. We will be back! :)

Clean, nice room and beds. Staff very helpful and friendly and I stay in a good deal of hotels for work this one is good. The Car park was comfortable and felt secure, I would recommend, thank you
Dropped a point only for area, however all hotels in this area will be the same. The stair route to hotel reception from car park was a couple of flights although quicker than the walk around. For elderly or with disability get dropped off at the front.
