This is a beautiful pub/restaurant/hotel, steeped in history. Well kept, very clean and an ideal location for exploring the historic town of Rye. The room we had was well equipped with all the expected amenities but a little bit on the small side especially for longer stays. The staff were polite and attentive to our needs. Would definitely stay again.
Air conditioning not working efficiently enough to cool the room. Fortunately it was not a hot, muggy night otherwise the temperature in the room may well have been unbearable. We felt the dinner prices were a bit on the higher end of the scale for a pub/restaurant so chose to eat elsewhere.

The Ship has become our bolt hole when visiting Rye, which my sister and I do several times as year. It is very dog friendly and the rooms very comfortable. We always enjoy the very generous breakfast, although we didn’t eat in the restaurant this time, we have in the past and very much enjoyed it. The staff are always friendly, helpful and efficient.
We stayed on a Sunday this time and most of the bar tables had been turned over to dining, so we couldn’t use them for a drink. Whether this was due to a busy Sunday service, or the norm, I couldn’t say.

it’s a genuine very old inn. the property has been modernised and refurbished in a sympathetic way. The bar and restaurant are full of character with a lovely open fire. Young staff, very helpful, our breakfast waitress was especially friendly.
There were no staff on the premises overnight. This was a problem on one night. The bedrooms were up three flights of stairs. This won’t suit some people so there should be a warning. Our first night was 23rd March. We arrived late, about 8:30 p.m. because of heavy rain and traffic on M25, the restaurant had already closed down for the night. I suppose we could have booked a table, but didn’t because we knew we might be late, just hoped we could get a sandwich. Restaurants close by were also closed by 9:00 p.m. but we did find food in a Turkish restaurant eventually.

Fantastic staff that were all very friendly, knowledgable and helpful. We had dinner in the restaurant on Sat night and it was excellent.
We stayed in the room called Middle Strachey Wood (or similar) It was described as ‘cosy’. To be fair all the expected amenities were there and luckily the bed is high so at least we could put things under it! Given that we also booked with our dog there was barely space to get around the bed. However, all was adequate. The bathroom was less so. The wash basin was only just big enough to get my hands in, let alone to wash in. In addition, the wc is so close to the towel rail you are at risk of burning yourself on the towel rail when sitting on the toilet. No idea why you decided to squeeze a bath in as well. A simple shower cubicle would have fitted much better and given space for a useable basin and a safe toilet.

A lovely place to stay, just on the edge of town so quiet but a 2min walk and you are in the centre. fantastic food really well priced and the atmosphere was ace. Guinness was perfect 👍🏻. A nice warm very clean room with a good size as was the bathroom/shower and a very comfy bed and a quiet nights sleep. Breakfast was as much or as little as you wanted with great choice. Every member of staff we meet was friendly and helpful, all in all a perfect break, WE WILL BE BACK!!
Nothing at all, even the weather played ball and was sunny for a nice walk on Camber Sands

An old inn in what was a former warehouse in a super central location in historic Rye with a pay and display car park conveniently only a few yards away. Friendly staff and good food. Very comfy bed.
The sleeping area of our room which was up 2 flights of stairs on the second floor was quite small and over the kitchen area and at times smoke from the kitchen came up past the window. The first time it happened we thought there might have been a fire in the kitchen but think they were just frying a steak! This meant that we had to close the window all the time but thank goodness there was an air con unit in the room. The en-suite bathroom which appeared to have been recently refurbed was quite large so did add to the size of the room.

Room was a good size with enough room for our dog bed. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Good Ensuite bathroom with bath and above shower, with lots of hot water. Breakfast was really good and we changed items with no extra cost or fuss. The Staff here are excellent. Really enjoyed our stay Thank you.
The dressing table had broken mirror panels and I would have removed it and replaced with another. (really let the superior room feel down).

The location is a 10. 4 mins walk to the station where you can also take the bus (102) for Camber Sand. The little town is just so nice! The best bed I ever slept in. The Room was very clean and cosy. Breakfast absolutely delicious and big portions included in the price. Staff was very nice , friendly and helpful! There was a problem with the kitchen during my stay but the staff did everything they could and even beyond. They were absolutely great, super friendly and very helpful. Initially booked for only 1 night, stayed 1 more day cause it was just too good to leave. Clearly high recommended and will come back again. Big thanks to Georgia, Dan and the guy from Croydon for being so kind and caring during my stay.

Fabulous location and piece of history. Really comfortable and well appointed room. Fresh and modern and such a comfortable bed. Staff really helpful and friendly. The pod coffee machine was a nice touch. Good food in the evening.
Just a few things could've made this perfect. Some things not on the menu. Two mornings running they got our breakfasts wrong. Leak in our bedroom ceiling that resulted in my clothes getting wet. And missing TV remote meant we couldn't use TV to watch netflix.

The staff were absolutely delightful and welcomed us and our dog! They were so friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. The cosy double and ensuite bathroom were spotless and the breakfast was absolutely delicious. My husband said the best Veggie breakfast ever!! They even gave our dog a sausage for breakfast!! We had excellent dinners there both nights too. The pub is so convenient for the beautiful town with its cobbled streets and lots of interesting shops nearby. We knew there was no parking but the staff told us to go to the carpark that cost £2.50 for 24 hours which is 5 mins walk away so no problem.
It would've been better to book the bigger room as ours got a little bit too warm but the staff gave us a fan which really helped and it was fine.
