Great location, comfortable room and good facilities

Surprised to find that the room was on the 2nd floor with no lift - quite a challenge getting luggage up there - I really think this needs to be highlighted, if we had been less than fit, we would have struggled (more than we did) getting luggage up there. Also, the room lacked a chair and desk - there was plenty of space for this. And could REALLY use some shelving in the bathroom, most of our stuff had to live on the floor. Perhaps the owners should try living in the rooms for a week !

I had booked several rooms for family members because we had a wedding nearby, and I was allowed to use one of the conference rooms in order for us all to eat breakfast together, which was kind. The rooms are very nice, with really comfortable beds and beautifully clean bathrooms. There are one or two minor maintenance items which are no doubt on their list of things to do, but nothing that spoiled our stay. It suited us perfectly, with plenty of parking on site and very close to all the shops and restaurants of St Albans.

My only quibbles are very minor ones - the ipad on which you are supposed to register your car details wasn't working, which we discovered after several frustrating attempts! I hadn't realised in advance that there was someone actually living in at least one of the other rooms - one of the kitchenettes was full of someone's food, washing-up etc. And it's a shame that they don't tidy up the land around the house - the house itself is an imposing Victorian building, with well-equipped rooms but the outside seems a bit sad. However there was nothing that spoiled our stay, and we would happily stay here again.

The room itself was stunning and the bathroom was huge, both with a beautiful view of the cathedral. (Almost) perfect for our first anniversary getaway !!

There was a faulty downlighter in our room (Marlborough) which constantly flickered, regardless of how bright or dim the lights were being adjusted to and unfortunately the main light fixture in the center of the room wasn’t working (think the bulb was blown) so we had no choice but to have the down lighters on which drove me mad after a couple of hours (especially while trying to do my makeup in the only mirror in the room, which was typically right below the flickering light). We also noticed that there was no microwave in the kitchenette unless I missed it? Overall we LOVE Torrington Hall and have stayed in the Sopwell room previously which again, was absolutely stunning! Definitely one of our favorite escape destinations and will 100% be back again soon.

Excellent location in the city, spacious room, kitchen facilities very useful and it was pretty well equipped and we preferred this to a provided breakfast. Beautiful property with lots of potential to create a lovely garden outside. Top floor was quiet. Everything was very clean and bed was reasonably comfortable. Provided parking was straight forward.

There was only a short wardrobe so nowhere to hang coats or longer dresses. There's an alcove where coat hooks could be provided. I had to mend the kitchen utensil drawer as the handle had come off, but the bolt was in the drawer. There was only one chair to in on in the room when we had a cup of tea. Somewhere to place sponge bags in the bathroom would be helpful as there wasn't even a shelf for this. All small things that would make a difference.

Very nice old house, good quality, if you need total privacy this is your optin, excellent location near the center of St Albans

It was very dark outside at the yard when came in the night but then front of the main door lights turned on. Also the location key boxes should be marked better, luckily the other client told me where to find the key, Instructions were good by the accommodation where to find the key, but I just did not understood them or I was too tired at the night when came.

Lovely room and location. Had a bit of a nightmare with the code on the front door. It’s impossible to read the numbers. These should be illuminated. Especially when it’s dark.

This was perfect for me. Clean, big warm room with car parking. They were lovely and put a desk in the room, especially. Which was great.

Milk cartons and coffee we provided. As far as I could tell the milk was not replaced. I wish I had know as there was a fridge and I would have bought some milk instead of having to go out again. The check-in was a bit of a mare, as the door code did not initially work. Then when you get the room key the instructions could have been clearer. A call sorted out these issues.

We met someone in the reception hall, having gained entry using the lockbox, and she was very helpful locating our keys. The room was large and very comfortable, right on the end of the main street through St. Albans.

There was a problem with privacy in the bathroom; rooms above could look directly down to the toilet! We left something in the fridge and twice asked if a relative could collect it but we heard nothing. A disappointing lack of interest. One can only assume that the item was found and kept or thrown away.

Having read some of the negative reviews we booked this property with a little trepidation! However, it is in a superb location, everything in St Albans is within easy walking distance and there is plenty of private, off road parking available. Gaining entry to the building and our room was very straightforward, just followed the instructions given. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. It was boiling hot as the radiator was working extremely well! Once turned off, room cooled with no problem and there was a fan provided. Our only concern would have been the fact that only one window opened a small fraction (obviously due to security which we understand). However, this room had a door leading outside which we opened when we were there and this was lovely. We didn't use the kitchen facilities as made use of the very many restaurants, bars and cafes in the area. A small fridge was in the room, as was a hairdryer, iron and ironing board. Would definitely use this accommodation again. Perfect for us.

The only negative for us was the inability to open the windows at all or wide enough. Understand this is due to security but if not for the very convenient door leading to the rear of the building this room may be a little warm for us in the summer months. There is a fan provided which is appreciated.

beautiful building with plenty of parking. Close to local shops and only over the road from the cathedral which has a cafe and beautiful grounds. Stayed here for a trip to Harry Potter studios, which is only a 10-20minute drive depending on traffic. The room was clean and a great size. Bathroom had a big shower. There is also a mini fridge in the St Alban room which is a great touch! The no staff check in was easy and we didn’t hear or see any other residents during our stay. I would 100% stay again.

I found two kitchens in the property. One says residents only and another has no sign on the door. The one with no sign appears to be the one in the pictures on here. Unfortunately both of them were full of rubbish, on the sides and over flowing bin. If all the rooms have a fridge in then I would say just use that and store food ect in your room.
