From the moment we arrived the staff could not do more to help. A spectacular building that has been extremely well maintained. Room was spacious, bed comfortable and bathroom fantastic with a great shower area. Breakfast and drinks during the day served with a smile. Nice seating areas throughout. Car Park another bonus. Great position to explore Tavistock.
We were woken circa 530am by bottles being collected. Disturbed our sleep which was dissapointing. Flagged to reception so hope it was followed up. Evening meal was dissapointing. Crab starter, Lamb curry and Chicken on pitta main all fell short and were left. Surprised returned food not queried. But must say breakfast was complete opposite with choice and great quality offerings. So felt may have been unlucky with evening meal.

The hotel is in a great location for Tavistock town. It's a beautiful building and full of character. The brother and sister in the restaurant were very polite and friendly , there was an ambience lacking in there and a bit chilly! Breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious. Nice areas to sit and have a drink before dinner.
The bed was barely bigger than a single, we now know to book king-size at this hotel, because it's a traditional bed. The room was tired, the shower door over the bath was broken and the wardrobe door kept opening. Minor issues really.

The room we transferred to was excellent and the receptionist and cleaning team were very efficient in assisting our transfer. The breakfast menu provided a good selection and the food was always cooked to our requirements. The bar was well stocked catering for all our needs. The hotel location in the centre of Tavistock was excellent with good car parking facilities
We booked a quiet room which was located on the top floor away from noise from other residents. However the weather was hot so we needeed to keep the windows open which meant the noise from the roof mounted air conditioning units below was unacceptable. As stated above the staff were excellent in facilitating our transfer to a room on the opposite side of the corridor which was excellent.

The location - situated practically in the middle of the town. Inside, the room was spacious and the breakfast selection excellent. An odd, but not unpleasant choice of background music in the restaurant at breakfast was pop-reggae (think Bob Marley etc.). Staff were attentive, polite and reserved, as expected in a hotel of this calibre; there was a rather old-world ambiance, reflected in many of the other guests...
A down side in the summer was the room was quite warm - it faced west and caught the afternoon sun. In the morning, although the curtains were opaque, they were also rather short and allowed daylight to reflect into the room off the white floor. This made the room rather too bright at an early hour. Although not facing directly the main road, traffic was audible until quite late - yes, even Tavistock seems to have revellers.

My room was on the same level of the function I was attending so very handy. Staff very nice and welcoming. Although check in time was 2pm the staff made every effort to make sure the room was available in time for me to check in earlier and get myself sorted for the wedding I was attending. Very clean and tidy and as christmas approaching looked lovely and festive.
When using the shower it was a little slippy when I was showering - could have done with a mat inside the shower cubicle. I held onto the inside handle of the cubicle for safety reasons as I was on my own. I could hear other guests outside my room walking the short distance as floor was squeaking. Did not know about the £8 car park additional fee as made booking through booking.com. I feel I should not of been charged this as I made the reservation back in May before the new charge came out. The dining room was full when I went down for breakfast so had to be seated in the bar area (which was ok) but not much room on the table to accommodate the tea / coffee / plates etc etc

Location Friendliness of staff / especially Reception. Cleanliness and atmosphere of public rooms
Stairs to room on top floor.Lift down to car park also out of action. Towel Rail not heating in bathroom Bathroom lights flickering. Lack of clarity about ingredients used in breakfast menu. Chilli added to breakfast Avocado on toast without being declared on menu and total lack of clarity about the presence of egg in foods to which l am allergic.Having to ask each time ,does this contain egg ? and then waiting for the answer is tedious and takes the pleasure out of eating.

Classic building with heaps of period features. Really attractive garden for a glass of wine! Comfy, clean room with good amenities. Slap bang in the centre of the town. Elegantly presented, high quality breakfast; fewer items of higher quality beats a plate loaded down with cheap wholesaler products any day. Super staff, especially Lian (possibly one of the Managers?) whose customer service and interaction was just top notch.
We loved the classic feel; if you are more into very contemporary accommodation it may not be for you.

a pleasant stay overnight stay. good range of options for breakfast. staff were very friendly and courteous. room was spacious, a comfortable temperature, and we had a very good nights sleep! nice bathroom too. we were a bit worried about noise from the road, but we had no issues!!! :-)
the Steep parking charge was a real shame and put a bit of an ill feeling on an otherwise superb stay... when we arrived they told us we should have booked through them directly to avoid it, but the price still worked out cheaper through booking.com and paying the additional parking charge than it would have if we had booked through them? perplexed! glad i read the reviews and knew about this beforehand, because it doesn't mention it at all anywhere else when you're booking!!!

check-in was quick, couldn't remember my car reg so gave a description instead, lovely receptionist, room was perfect, scone and jam was nice and the waiter queried my evening meal with me, Very attentive and hotel had noted all my intolerances. Valentines Meal was lovely, really lovely. Ate too much. Bottle of Vigonier went down well. Very relaxed. 4 poster bed was very comfy and view from the window was great to wake up to. Breakfast was perfect, cooked and buffet. car parking was easy as everyone was considerate. Really lovely ambience throughout our stay. We'll be back.
no lift but that's a listed building issue.

The location was superb, being right in the town centre. Tavistock was beautiful with the Christmas lights. All the staff were extremely friendly and very professional. Our room (9) was lovely and the air bath was a bonus! Very clean. Breakfast was very good with lots of choices. We were kept informed ref the booking and were also updated that there were funtions happening on both the Friday and Saturday nights with music, but they would try to make sure we weren't disturbed. Never heard a thing. All in all, it was a lovely weekend.
Wouldn't say we didnt like, but we found the bed was a little too soft to what we are used to, so if we stay again, which we probably will, we'll remember to ask for a room with a firmer bed.
