Bed was comfortable. Staff were excellent. Beautiful grounds in Autumn: pleasant walks. A good breakfast.

Building is getting a bit tired. The breakfast was good but not a patch on the pre-covid breakfast we raved over.

Location, conservatory room for breakfast was lovely, staff were all lovely, very helpful

The room and bathroom ( shower very poor flow) although clean are very dated, really needs refreshing, as does the rest of the property, corridors, stairwells etc. The main reception and main building are still lovely, in keeping with the character of the place, although again, needs a bit of money spent refreshing these areas but still maintaining the character. Bit disappointed you couldn`t get any meals apart from breakfast.

The room was lovely, very warm and cosy. Very clean. The staff were lovely too, especially the polish lady on the desk, she made us really welcomed, she was amazing. She made us feel very welcome with our dog too. Gave him a bowl of water and couple of hugs. She made us a coffee and biscuits as we asked her if there was a coffee shop close by as we had travelled 3.5 hours and were desperate for a coffee. She made no hesitation and said she would make us a coffee and a drink for our son. It was very kind of her. We had a very enjoyable relaxing weekend. Thank you so much. The area was brilliant, loved it. The only down side we had was the bed settee, the wooden slats underneath the mattress, fell out as soon as my son laid on the bed. We tried to get them in. But noticed a few had come out. He slept on the floor for a while on the mattress bit, but being asmatic, the dust was getting to him, so he joined us in the big bed, which he loved. He had a good sleep after that. Thank you again. We had a good time. 😁 ♥️

Everything was great, apart from the bed mentioned above, everything was brilliant

We had a lovely room with a beautiful view of the garden. In it was a great big bed with probably the most comfortable mattress I have slept on, with big fluffy pillows and a clean, roomy en suite bathroom. Breakfast was in a spacious conservatory overlooking the grounds and was plentiful with a good choice - scrambled egg, sausage, bacon, tomato, mushroom and baked beans, toast, pastries, yogurt, fresh fruit, cereal, orange juice and coffee. One day we had table service and the others were self service. A comfortable bar was open in the evenings. Best of all were the friendly, welcoming, professional staff.

The one thing, I felt could be improved upon was the tea at breakfast. A minor point but important to some. Hot water was provided in an urn, with tea bags available along with a massive jug of milk. If one wanted milk with one's tea, one had to add it to the tea bag dunked in hot water there and then in a cup at the urn before taking it all to the table. Obviously, this is a very poor way of making a cup of tea and one ends up with weak, cold, milky tea. Fortunately, I prefer coffee. My husband on the other hand is a tea drinker and not so impressed. Easily remedied, I'd have thought by providing small individual milk jugs.

The hotel is located in a beautiful setting. We stayed in a large suite which had stunning views overlooking the gardens at the back of the hotel. All the staff we spoke to were very friendly and attentive. The breakfast room is really nice and the breakfast itself had so much choice.

Unfortunately both the Spa and restaurant were closed although we were made aware of this prior to our stay. Hopefully the Macdonald chain will address this in the near future.

Was a bit worried after reading the reviews but we really couldn't complain for the price. The location has lovely grounds, bed was lovely and comfy, the staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was nice too. We had 2 dogs, and there is a £15 charge for each one. Staff were lovely with the dogs and gave them sausages for breakfast.

At 6am on Sunday morning we were woken by a very loud humming noise that my partner thinks was a generator. It seemed to be behind the wall that the bed head was on. It gradually went quieter but we didn't get much sleep after that. Rm 301

The grounds are lovely. There is access to the lake but it is overgrown, it could do with a tidy up.

The room was a little disappointing, very basic and had no view. The entrance to the hotel is very grand and beautifully designed, but our room was at the other side of the hotel and we felt that this area of the hotel had no character, it wasn't in keeping with the entrance and this was a shame. Also the breakfast was very expensive for what it was, £45 for 2 adults and 1 child, my daughter had a bowl of cereal, I had a bacon scrambled egg and sausage and my husband a full English. This was a big pet down unfortunately.

We had a lovely feature suite - the Byron. Staff were really attentive. Hot breakfast was cooked individually for us. We really like the walk around the old Worthington reservoir that is reachable from the hotel grounds. We like the old Manor House part of the hotel.

The spa was out of action due to renovations. The menu in the restaurant was very limited and more like pub food - we would have liked something nicer as we were celebrating a birthday. It was a lovely evening and we would have liked to have had our pre-dinner drinks outside, but this option wasn’t available at this time. We don’t like the newer annex part of the hotel - you can hear everything from next door.
