We saw Dolphins every morning!! It was such a treat. We really loved the deck in the morning and evening when we were around to enjoy it. We also loved watching the fire dancers in the lawn from the deck. The staff was so kind and helpful at every turn. We honestly didn’t need a thing but they were very attentive and always offering to help. The sweetest hostess at breakfast even gave my family her own personal apples when my son spied them on a counter that he didn’t realize was not part of the continental breakfast. The common areas were nice! We opted for take in a few times just to enjoy the deck and fire pit with our kids for late night dinners close to the bed!

The coffee in the breakfast room was really bad. I’m not that picky typically but it seemed inedible. I couldn’t figure out the coffee machine in the room but did t ask for assistance so maybe it wasn’t fault. I used it as an excuse to get coffee in town.

Terrific breakfast, great location, room was large, clean and comfortable with adequate lighting. I love the 2nd floor deck to view the ocean, and chairs and table inside for breakfast with great views as well. Appreciate having an elevator to get the bags upstairs.

I payed full price for a room (#48; don't book that one!) with NO view of anything but a wall with the janitorial service closet outside of it. Somewhat noisy with a lot of kids in the pool, which is in the center of the smallish complex, but that would be expected. And now there's a $15/night parking fee!?!

The property has an amazing view of Carlsbad beach. We loved the patio. All the staff were very pleasant and made our stay enjoyable. The property does needs a facelift but my understanding is that this is in process with the patio deck being replaced in November. Our room was comfortable and spacious but had a unique smell which comes with age. Overall we would come back.

Great location, immediately across the road from Tamarack State Beach, where there were lots of activities like drumming circles and music and acrobatic/athletic exhibitions. Lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance. The quiet, clean room was very nice, with a most comfortable bed and plushy pillows, and a small balcony offering a small view of the ocean. The convenience of having a fridge and tea/coffee supplies made it very hospitable, so I didn't need to go out just for a snack. The breakfast room is super, with fabulous views of the ocean (one morning, we watched the dolphins at play). Breakfast offers a wide array of breads, pastries, cereals, cheeses, fruits, yoghurt, drinks of all kinds. There are also hot dishes: pancakes or French toast, eggs (usually scrambled), hash browns. For those non-vegetarians, bacon or sausages are served, although as a vegetarian, I can't vouch for them myself. The ladies operating the breakfast room are very friendly and helpful. Coffee, tea, fruit, and snack bars are available all day. Food can be taken out on the deck and enjoyed in the fresh air. Usually there are a few people with drinks (alcoholic or not) watching the spectacular sunsets, and most are friendly enough to start up some interesting conversations. Housekeeping was exceptionally good; although I chose not to have my room cleaned every day because I was there for a few days, my trash was emptied daily and tea supplies replenished as needed. ** Do check train service in the area, as many trains are currently out of service indefinitely because of erosion and track repairs.

My only disappointment was the total cost of the room was not what I expected. Some nights were considerably more than advertised on the booking site, and ultimately the few days cost me considerably more than I'd budgeted for. Be sure to check and confirm the room costs beforehand, as management, although very courteous, was not willing to make adjustments once I'd arrived and checked in. I've had this same issue with other Best Westerns I've stayed at, and it rather deters me from staying with them in the future.

Breakfast was great!! They had a nice variety of food and it was delicious. Plus the dinning room was fantastic! You are having Breakfast on nice furniture with a view of the ocean. Windows all around, we saw Dauphins swim by while enjoying our meal. Best part of this hotel. The outdoor fire pit was also very nice at night.

Carpet and bathroom in room needs some up grades however it was clean and the rest of the room was nice.

The location is amazing! We came to Carlsbad as a family because we wanted to be near the ocean without all the busy traffic of many other CA cities. The beaches were quiet. The breakfast was great too! The partial ocean view was nothing.... so just book a regular room. Generally, it was a great stay.

Wish we did not pay for the partial ocean view room because you. had to stand out on the balcony and turn and stretch your neck to see anything......

I have travelled extensively and this hotel stood out in terms of the staff. Every single person we met was helpful, cheerful, friendly and really made you feel valued as a guest. The location was perfect and the terrace was a wonderful place to have breakfast or just kick back and relax. There is an evening fire pit for guests and the pool was heated, always a bonus! There is no housekeeping at the moment and we actually liked that; you only had to ask and the staff would drop everything and get things like towels or coffee pods so it was, overall, a perfect stay. Undercover parking near the rooms which was handy.

The only sticking point was the lone and long-winded toaster tucked into the corner of the breakfast servery - sometimes a long wait and difficult to respect personal space with people reaching over for other items. That said, we commented and the next day a much faster toaster was in place. So, while it was a minor niggle, again the staff excelled themselves by trying to fix the problem.

Nice room, very good breakfast. Pool was nice. Location a real plus. Bed was comfy

A screen door on sliding door would be nice. The old rocking chairs were more comfortable than the new chairs on patio. A small table would be nice on balcony and patio between chairs.

Great location and friendly staff. It was nice to have breakfast available, and there were lots of choices. The lounge area had amazing views. Sweet hostesses, too. The fire pit area and patio area, overlooking the ocean, were great places to relax and enjoy family time. We will definitely return!

The bathroom was a bit small, but it was nice to have a separate sink area.

The staff were extremely friendly. Breakfast was excellent - lots of choices. Eggs and bacon or sausage each day as well as waffles, pastries, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt and other items. Great view of the ocean from the breakfast and deck area. Free parking. Location was perfect. Right across the street from the beach and right near Carlsbad Village. We did more walking than driving due to the closeness of so many things.

There is no daily room service. They will get you anything you need but the daily room service should come back. The parking is limited and the spaces are a little snug.
