LOVED the location. The room was so nice and spacious. The staff was kind and safely stored our bags while we went out in the city for the last day. I wouldn't say there's anything super fancy about the hotel and it is an older building but it was very clean and comfortable for our family. The balcony and windows that open were an AWESOME bonus! :) ALSO, I didn't know until after we had arrived that the parking in the garage was only $17 (maybe check ahead as this could have been a special offer for the holiday. We took the train to avoid the typical $65-a-night charge for parking that most hotels in SF offer so we didn't use it but, having this option is nice!

While my kids thought their beds (Queen size) were comfortable and had noticeably plush bedding, the king-size bed my husband and I slept in was extremely hard and uncomfortable, with very thin blankets. I'm not sure why or if our bed was a fluke. I do know my back and hips were in a lot of pain each morning. Maybe I'm just getting old..haha! EVERYTHING else was just perfect and the missing star was solely because of this.

Great location for everything. High end shops right on the doorstep. Trams just around the corner. Bars and restaurants a short walk away.

Bed was very hard. Cleaner came before 8.30am. Our room overlooked an alleyway with leaking drainpipes and walls.

Superb location in the heart of the city. Excellent public transport options nearby. Staff were friendly, with genuine smiles and were very helpful. Room was a good size. Bed was very comfortable. Our room on 6th floor was very quiet for a central city hotel. And it has an open air heated swimming pool - yes, in the middle of the city!

Some things are getting a little dated eg the room's aircon/ heating system - who would have guessed that to switch it on you need to push the button marked 'Off/Low'? They kindly supplied a portable electric heater. We also borrowed a kettle but when we plugged the two things in together, we blew a fuse. However this was fixed promptly. Really these are minor gripes.

Comfy beds, good showers, good sized rooms. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Great part of town in Union Square, 5 minute walk to the cable car turnpoint, close to shopping and restaurants, train staion 5 minute walk.

Fitness centre needs upgrading. No strength machines, just a few free weights and cardio equipment. Parking is absolutely exorbitant. 3 days parking was $230 USD.

Lovely sized room. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Close to a few bars, convenience stores, delis & restaurants. Right next to Powell Street where the cable cars are.

It was a bit of trek to our room. Maybe put that in the description, and give the option of a room closer to reception that doesn't involve as much walking, stairs and lifts. When there were children playing in the swimming pool, the noise travelled into our bedroom, even with the patio doors closed. We were on the 6th floor.

In general, the management staff were excellent except for one. He was very dismissive when I told him that the thermostat was not working. When I tried to give further details he stated that he already told me that he already me he would take care of it. He was very arrogant; I can understand if he had a bad day but I remember that he was snippy the last time I came in that year ( 6 months ago). He should learn better customer relations.

The Handlery Union Square Hotel is amazing! It’s right in the heart of Union Square, making it super convenient for shopping, restaurants, and everything San Francisco has to offer. The room was way more comfortable than I expected for an older hotel, and the bed was so cozy. The staff were fantastic—they let us check in early at 10 a.m. and gave us a late check-out at 1 p.m., which I’ve never experienced anywhere else. We stayed for seven days, and everything was great from start to finish. I’ll definitely stay here again!

The hotel is in a great location on Union Square, the rooms were big and clean, we were in the historic building so they weren’t modern but had everything you needed.

It’s overpriced for what it is but you get that a lot in San Francisco, there is also a City Tax charge per night that booking.com don’t advise you about.

The hotel is located in the central area of San Francisco with easy access to the public transport and walking distance to some attractions, for example the China town. The hotel has an old fashioned design but we liked it. The hotel is very clean and quiet. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was very spacious and comfortable, with a nice balcony.

There was nothing we did not like. Shame, we only had a few days to visit San Francisco and we did not have enough time to explore all facilities of the hotel, including the swimming pool and the gym.

Im guessing they have upgraded some floors/sections and not others because I see some mixed reviews but my stay was great. Massive room overlooking the pool with a balcony, made my business trip feel like a holiday! Lovely stylish lobby, clean and get well lit/safe car park, ideal location straight into Union Square, safest feeling location I've had yet in sfo. Convenient bar/restaurant underneath which felt very welcoming as a solo dinner (They're were 3 or 4 other singles also at the bar). It was sooooo much better than I was expecting from some Google reviews, lovely stay absolutely would return. Nice to find an independent hotel holding their own against the Marriott's et al.

I didn't get a chance to use the pool due to having to work 😅 More practically there are some stairs on the way to the pool rooms which aren't super convenient with bags but hey sfo is hilly 🤷🏼‍♀️
