This hotel is amazing with so much character and loaded with antiques on every floor. The staff was great, breakfast was fulfilling, room was great, bed was so comfortable. It was decorated so well for Christmas, so it really put you in the mood for the season. Be sure you sit by one of the two fireplaces downstairs with a cup of tea to take in the feeling of the hotel. The cookies in the afternoon were delicious. You'll love riding on the elevator. I would stay here again in an instant if I'm back in the city again. It is near the end of the California trolley line, so you can get to Chinatown or other parts of the city.
The only thing I didn't like was that I didn't have more time to stay here longer.

The breakfast was well rounded and better than most hotels. You could have a hot breakfast with eggs, sausage, waffles, or cereal, yogurt and some fruit. Pastries, bagels and English muffins were also available.
Breakfast time was too short. A half hour longer would be good. The spaces and rooms were clean but in need of fresh paint.

I loved the age of the building and the Victorian decor. The employees were kind, friendly, and helpful. My room was very comfortable and clean, and everything was in working order. The included breakfast was very good. I will definitely stay here again.
I have nothing negative to report.

We enjoyed the large lounge with coffee and tea always avaiiable and the afternoon cookies and sherry. There were plenty of good chairs and sofas and gas fires on. The staff were always helpful and pleasant to deal with. We loved the Victorian decor and furniture throughout.
It took a long time and mentions to three different staff for a light bulb to be replaced ! Most of the prints / pictures on the walls were from an earlier period than the 1890 hotel, but were still attractive.

Breakfast was provided and it was nice! I do wish that there could be a change in menu everyday. Free cookies, coffee and tea was provided 24/7 too. Staff was always friendly and helpful! The heater in the room was strong and I loved it!
I thought that there would be a fridge but there isn't, but definitely not a dealbreaker!

We really loved the quiet location. Yes, the furniture is old, but it is quite comfortable. You really feel like you’ve stepped back in time.

The staff were very friendly, helpful, accommodating, and hardworking, especially the gentleman running the breakfast. He never stopped moving! The town car option was very convenient. The Victorian decor is amazing. Afternoon tea, sherry, and cookies is a nice touch. Good location in Japan town and close to hospitals to visit family.
The beds and pillows are not the most comfortable. Suggest having spare pillows of different thicknesses to match personal preference. All the ones in the room were way too thick. The bathrooms in the library downstairs appeared clean but smelled bad. Breakfast was decent but could have been a bit higher caliber given the caliber of the hotel.

Very welcoming staff, upon arrival our 2 little ones received stuffed toys (they were blown away). Afternoon cookies in the lobby is also a very nice touch. Hot water (and tea) and hot coffee are available in the lobby throughout the day. Hotel parking is located across the street. They offer a typical American breakfast (you can also make your own waffles).
The beds are really high as in most of hotels, so it was a little bit challenging to keep the toddlers "secure". They do offer a cot for babies though.

When you walk in, you are completely engulfed in Victorian everything, including the elevator. The staff is personable and spends time with guests, letting everyone know what to do and where to go. The breakfast is well appointed with many choices. Tea, sherry, and cookies is such a delightful bonus. This is an affordable gem in downtown San Francisco.
This is a funny observation. In our bathroom was a vintage push-button telephone-from the 70s. I would find phones that match the decor. Like I said, not a criticism, just something fun that came across my thinking.
