They have an odd policy about giving your car keys to hotel staff, i did see it’s in their policy but i find it hard to understand why they need to do that, not that i experienced this but they have the keys just lying around behind the desk and anyone could just take advantage of that. i believe this policy should be reviewed and/or the reason for having this policy should be shared. we were also chased down by an older man for accessing our car (i had the control fob) then heading to the beach, he made us go to the desk then asked which hotel room we were staying in and if the staff had our keys, just not a comfortable situation as i already feel unsure with them having it and now im getting yelled at like im a thief.

We loved the location and the coffee service they offer every morning without extra charge. The room was big and the beds comfortable. Also the shower was great! very strong water pressure, which is great to take the sand off after being in the beach.

I was not very happy about the idea of leaving the keys of my car in the office, I didn't really understand the reason and I didn't read any information about that in booking when I booked the hotel.

Free parking was great. Good coffee and donuts for breakfast. Front desk very helpful. Staff was kind enought to give us an early check-in.

TV remote controller did not work. Beds were a bit uncomfortable. Pillows were tiny. No mini fridge or coffee maker in room. Hot water was limited. Windows are old and not very soundproof. Several outlets in bedroom did not work.

We really liked the kindness of most of the staff, especially of Dariana and the two other gentlemen who helped us at the main counter. This was the 4th time that we've stayed at James Hotel. Everytime we come all the way from Peru, we stay at this quaint and nice hotel. We always recomend it. Not only is the location great since you are just a bit more than a couple of blocks from the beach, but they are truly kind to keep our luggage until our is ready for an early checkin. In the mornings, you have free coffee and doughnuts. I wil keep on recommending it to my friends from Peru, and I will always feel at home at the James Hotel!

The only little thing we didn't like this time was the roach I had to kill one night... it's totally understandable because it's summer time. Anyway, this has been the only time we had this kind of incident.

This was the cheapest room I could get in Miami Beach on short notice due to a last minute snafu with another hotel. Exceeded my lowered expectations! Kind of a Bohemian vibe here. Lots of foreign and student guests staying here. More of a hostel than a traditional American hotel. Nothing fancy. Good if you just want a clean place to after your excursions. Convenient location in busy neighborhood. Unexpected, Coffee and donuts and some fruits available in lobby in the mornings. The BEST thing is on-site free parking! Don't see others offering without charges in MB. About 24 spots available, 1st come, 1 served.

It is what it is. As long as you rein in your expectations for a "budget" hotel in MB (still >$200/night!), you'll be fine. No room cleaning or changing bedding, but can ask for sheets and towels at front desk as needed

Location is amazing! Super close to the beach, Lincoln Rd, Ocean drive, bus stops, great food places. We felt safe. The style of the hotel is lovely and definitely very original, which adds to the overall experience of visiting Miami.

The place could be a bit cleaner and we had some problems with communicating with the staff (we don’t speak Spanish). The room was very basic, but at the same time comfortable enough and had what we needed (except for a safe).

Easy booking, easy check in. Friendly and interesting staff. One of a kind vibe. Location. Price - almost hard to believe you can still get a room blocks from the beach and Lincoln Ave for just over $100. We booked as our flight taxied in Miami, caught a cab to the James and were eating garlic shrimp and lechón on Lincoln 90 minutes later. This was on a Sunday of a long weekend. Seemed too good to be true but it wasn’t!

The only light that worked in our room (209) was the bathroom light. It wasn’t an issue since we only used the room to sleep but our early morning flight out of Miami meant we could’ve used some non bathroom light to pack up our stuff. It worked out okay for us. The first floor stunk of weed the day we got there and weed covered by incense the day we left but most of South Beach reeks of weed, it seems. Not necessarily a bad thing, the mota, but you definitely notice it.

It’s an older hotel, but it has it’s vibe, great price for it’s location
