This is a large property with an exceptional amount of charm and character. There are several options for eating and drinking on the property, including outdoor patios with fire pits. The theater and Turkish style bath are amazing.
While I realize that dim lighting adds to the ambience of the hotel rooms, it would be really nice to have the option of turning on a bright light(s) so one could actually see in the room. Importantly, the bathroom was well lit, but one could not easily read in the bedroom as it was so dimly lit.

This former Catholic school for girls and boys capitalized on the service of the nuns. Each room was named after a nun with a bit of her story. The bed was painted with a nun and the walls had pictures of nuns working together, Fixtures were old fashioned and playful. Color combinations were wonderful as was the whole of the interior of our room. Only drawback was a lack of cl0set (s). Not a big problem. There were several bars and a good restaurant. On bar was a speakeasy with a hidden entrance, Very charming.
Just the closets. They did have hooks on the walls that worked for clothes. The grounds were lovely so I can't think of anything else

Loved the history of the place. Thanks for having all the old photos on the wall. We must mention the soaking pool; sublime. Dinner in one of the pubs in front of the fireplace relaxed us even further.
We were in a beautiful room, but it was quite small - we think the smallest room of all - given that we had asked when we booked if there was enough space for us to park our e-bikes in the room. It would have been very helpful if the staff had put us in one of the larger rooms.

This was my second McMenamins property and I love the eclectic, relaxed, fun vibe. The room and bed were very comfy and clean. The location was wonderful! Just a three block walk to Drake Park with great coffee spots, restaurants and shopping all very close by. Downtown Bend has a lot of walkers and it feels safe, which is important to me as a solo traveling female. I was very pleasantly surprised to find a movie theater as part of the hotel complex. I got to see the new Indiana Jones film. A treat! There was also plenty of free, off-street parking.
The hotel is a comprised of several buildings and I had trouble navigating my way around. I kept wishing there were "You Are Here" signs in the areas between buildings. Smoking is allowed in the outdoor areas, and there's a cigar bar. I have a lifetime disgust for the stench of cigar smoke but had to walk through the smoking area to get to my room.

An unusually quirky and interesting hotel 650 feet from downtown Bend. The staff were great as was the food. The rooms and facilities are unique and much more exciting than the plain vanilla standard hotel chains. We loved that it has a movie theater with couches to sit on and various hidden rooms and bars. It is a true historic building with oodles of charisma. We would highly recommend it

Love the history and the period decor. Think it is brilliant to have such a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces to relax, get food, and imbibe the beverage of choice. The pool is so beautiful.
We had a room on the street side, which was not conducive with our desire for letting in the light and fresh air as much as we would have wished

Love the imagination and thought that went into the place. It would have been lovely if we could have checked out the whole place during our brief visit. We went to a concert and the things I was looking forward to exploring in the hotel afterwards were closed when we returned.
The facility hours. I feel like I missed out on a lot

location was great, lots of things to do for adults, next time coming with kids
the bartender in the hidden bar, blond tall guy, could be friendlier, seemed like he really did not want to be here. I felt like I was trying to talk him out via small talks, it was like pulling teeth.

It’s quirky and comfortable. Special features like the whisky and cigar bar, the hidden (to find) speakeasy (s), and overall vibe is great.
Bar/restaurant food was not that great. Bath shower was quite small. There was no place to lay out a suitcase. And, room rates…well, they were a pretty pricey.

McMenamin's offers elegant rooms with comfortable beds, large bathrooms, room service, and fluffy terry cloth robes and towels just like other high-end luxury hotels. However, McMenamin's offers more than simply a nice place to stay. I might not choose McMenamin's for a quick overnight stay. But as a destination unto itself no question, this is the place to stay! McMenamin's offers a fascinating and imaginative world that is not only relaxing but takes you to another place, an adventure in itself that is a luxury I find difficult to express. I loved; the artwork, the themes throughout, the stories and references to music artists and songs, the headboard in my room, the soaking pool, all the food wherever you ate it, the outdoor fireplaces, wood paneling, the warm feel, the atmosphere, the people both other guests and McMenamin's staff. The list is endless. Plus it was amazingly quiet. I did not hear neighboring rooms or bathrooms or even the public patio outside my building. All this is right in the heart of downtown Bend.
The showerhead in my room was generic and could be improved upon but that is the only thing.
