The hotel is located inside of a very old and historic building, with everything that has been renovated and remodeled inside. You can that people really thought through details and style. in terms of comfort, our room had everything you could hope for. It wasn't as spacious as we thought, but it definitely worked out fine. The bathroom was amazing, with lots of amenities and a very nice shower. We were coming from a long train ride and showering there was a blast. Finally, the front desk staff and the attendant at the cafe were all really kind and helpful.

The reason why I can't give Harlow Hotel more than a 8/10 is the location. On the one hand, we got to Portland by train, and the fact that the hotel was just around the corner from the train station was totally convenient for us. If you're getting there by train, there's no need to call an uber or a taxi to get to the property. The big issue with the area is that there are plenty of homeless people hanging around in tents, on the streets, in the little park just out the door. Most of them are harmless, though a couple of them were scary and sketchy and as women we didn't feel safe coming back at night. It is fair to say that we found the city of Portland a place where we couldn't feel safe at all. So there's that.

The staff and space inside the hotel are both lovely.

I was a little let down by being told there was a 24 hour "cafe and bar" available but it was more like random super low grade snacks you might find at a dorm. We ordered the mozzarella sticks and chicken and waffles. There weren't waffles available... and what was "cooked" were just frozen packs... and not thoroughly cooked...not even dipping sauce or ketchup available. It might be more helpfu and satisfying to offer a microwave and small oven for guests to heat their own preferred frozen goods...

It was just a short walk from the Amtrak station and from the Red Line to the airport. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Blackout blinds kept the room dark. The TV had Netflix. I liked the large walk-in shower and the soft bathrobes. The aircon was effective, and pretty quiet. The staff were super-friendly.

The immediate neighborhood is desolate and sketchy, and feels a little unsafe. The room didn't have a desk or any surface on which to work. There was no coffee machine. The room didn't have an iron and ironing board (though one was provided when I asked). There was no safe in the room. Some noise from the street at night.

I checked in fairly late and was immediately welcomed by the receptionist who was friendly and helpful - as were all the staff I met - they gave great tips and advice on where to visit and made me feel at home. The rooms were large with high ceilings, I'm assuming the building is late 19th century which feels quite special, and the bathrooms are large and well equipped. The location was brilliant, a very short walk from Union Station and on the edge of both Pearl and Old Town with their different attractions and charm. If you're arriving by train I wouldn't consider anywhere else. There's quite a large homeless camp in a neighbouring square and by Union Station - this is fine and everyone keeps themselves to themselves, it's a city, but if this bothers you turn left to Pearl on leaving the hotel. I never tried the cafe but it looked great.

Nothing. Like Portland itself this was a hotel oozing with charm, class, and friendliness.

Loved the look of the hotel. Very chic, very boutique. The location was pretty good ... Number 3 bus to downtown Nashville or a gentle 30 minute walk. The beds & shower & room were really quite comfortable and spacious. The free brekkie was good ... coffee, tea, bagels, fruit and yoghurt. And, water for filling water bottles. The front desk staff was always polite even if they were incapable of helping me out with a problematic reservation. My flight was cancelled and nothing could be done to avoid me being charged for one night that I did not use. The hotel said ask Booking and Booking said ask the hotel. Why not just offer me a 10% future visit coupon that THEY SHARE the cost. I would have happily accepted that and more than likely with a longer stay.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Facilities and rooms were sparklingly clean. Bed was so soft and comfortable. Walking distance to the main downtown area. 24-hr. onsite cafe was nice.

I didn't feel unsafe in the neighborhood, but there were a bit of homeless congestion near the hotel area, which made me feel a little uncomfortable to walk around. I wasn't sure if the wall was thin, or other guest was too loud, but the noise from the hallway was a little too much at a time.

Loved the high ceilings and old style building (from 1882!!). Building had a lot of character. Room was small but space was very well set up to maximize area. Really liked the 24hr cafe & sitting area. Fantastic size and love the different eclectic selection of chairs, couches etc. Overall general space and room & linens were clean. Greatly appreciated.

The location was central but the immediate area outside of the hotel had a lot of homeless people congregating the area, especially on the day we arrived due to the lunch in the park event.

GREAT location - 5 minutes easy walk from Union Station. Downside of walking anywhere is running the gauntlet of homeless encampments, which comes as a bit of a shock at first. However, all that will confront you is the visuals, the stench of urine and the issue. After the initial shock one feels (perhaps ill-advisedly) pretty safe, as mostly the people keep to themselves. It's not their fault - the system has failed them, and there don't seem to be any public bathrooms. Not sure how I'd cope, particularly if I had mental health issues, which a lot do. Light rail and buses are close, but not so close that it's noisy. In Portland it's really no problem to get around - put your card in the machine at the light rail stations and $2.50-$5 ticket will get you around the city, all day. Warning: The red line to the airport is being upgraded (open October 23?), so you have to transfer to a bus. I did a dry run out to the Cascades shopping area (the Banana Republic factory store is great!) and figured an airport shuttle was smarter - 20 minutes and around $50 vs 1.5 hours of faffing around. And the train won't work for early flights as they don't start until 5am. I recommend Simon Says. The hotel itself is lovely, a graceful Victorian building well renovated. The ground floor is light and airy, with nice lounge areas and cafe. If you have a heavy bag you'll want to go around the corner rather than struggle with steps and the heavy door. Once in it's no problem. Great staff, a decent cup of coffee, easy to check in and out, very helpful and welcoming. Oh - and right next door there's a truly exceptional Mexican bar and restaurant. The second floor room was great, no view but that didn't worry me, I could see tree tops and it wasn't overlooked. Nice size, nice big armchair for reading, great bathroom - all the amenities one could want.

Only two things - the window didn't open, and the pillows were a little bouncy and boofy for my liking. Pillows are personal, I like a soft flat one - I didn't ask, just used a folded towel, worked fine. With the window - some fresh air would have been great as the room felt stuffy, however I guess security is an issue. I was on the second floor and being able to crack the window would have been brilliant ...

First of all this hotel seems brand new to me. Great atmosphere, spacious and confy room. I really like the gym and the cafeteria. I had a coffee there every single morning. Location is way better than what it was a few years ago. I did enjoy some of the restaurants inthe neighborhood. You can jump into 405 in a couple of minutes

Even though I did the pre check in online I had to go through the whole process when I showed up. It shouldn't work like this

Room was clean and hotel was very quiet and clean. Rate was reasonable for a downtown hotel location. Bathroom was lovely and amenities were good quality. Decor was excellent and in good taste. Loved the historic touches that were incorporated into the remodel: transoms, door trim, high ceilings, etc.

No early check-in available. I arrived about an hour early and waited in the lobby. Seemed a little short staffed, because the desk clerk was also working the bar. The neighborhood is a little rough at night - not the hotel's fault, it's always been like that around the station.
