we were here for our dachshund’s spine surgery at the only Neuro vet hospital nearest us - the Bush Neuro Vet hospital is Richmond. we live on the outer banks. we picked the hotel because they allowed 3 small dogs and were located directly across a huge park (where the Capitol building is) so we could easily walk the dogs. the staff was amazing - the people that checked us in - the valet - the cleaners - All attentive and super friendly and compassionate for our dogs major surgery. just a great stay over all. the room was huge - like a small apartment - wife loved the soft mattress - the 2 flatscreens - comfy sofa, kitchenette- and luxury master bath shower. very clean - comfortable- and easy. we loved it. we were about 5-10 minutes walk from lots of places to eat and 15 minutes from the vet hospital.

the restaurant was only open for breakfast due to staffing issues - which is the new norm now for the next few years. we were hoping to have access to this since we knew we’d be stuck in the room for at least a day nursing our pup recovering from surgery. but - we used door dash and were not phased by the closure.

The room was HUGE. The valet man was so kind and caring. 😊

The elevator was sooo tiny. Almost got stuck in it with our bags. We were given a map with restaurants but the address to the one we wanted was wrong. It wasn't until we drove all around and tried to find something else, 6 stops, that we learned we could've walked to it had the correct address been on it. It was 9 pm and everything was closing. We told two people at the check-in desk that night and the next morning checking out and hardly an apology and neither said they'd fix it for the next people. Hopefully they do. So unnecessary for a wild goose chase late at night. We didn't feel we were heard when we explained the first time and hardly the second.

We stayed at The Commonwealth for 2 nights in August, 2023. We drove and used their valet parking for our car. The valets were very nice and accommodating. The location of the hotel is really cool because it is so close to the main green square in Richmond near the governors mansion and the Virginia State Capitol. The location is also nice because where you drive to check in or get the valet is off the Main Street with no traffic and annoyances. The lobby is small but since the building is so old I'm sure it seems small by today's standards. The check in was easy and nice. The elevators are also very small as if they are still the ones from the 1920's. I thought it was cool. All of the rooms have an art theme and are cleverly named. We had a two queen room and it was HUGE. The room off the main door is like a small living room with a huge long desk and a big TV, couch and chairs. In a completely separate room are the two beds and another big TV. Bathroom was nice but probably the only area that might need a little improvement. The tile in our tub had cracked and it looked like a hair (which is never good to see). It ended up being a crack in the tub. We didnt eat at the restaurant but it looked quaint. One thing the hotel might do better is to provide a little more information about when the restaurant is open. I was never quite sure even if breakfast was included in our rate or not. Anyway, overall it was a good stay. If the hotel could add some type of larger pantry for late night snacks without going out that would be nice. The current "Pantry" doesn't give off the vibe of a 4 star hotel. The cleanliness was good. Keep up the good work.

The only minor thing was the inadequate pantry for late night snacks, water, etc.

The rooms are very spacious and like a fancy city apartment, minus the kitchen. We felt very glamorous and comfortable. We all slept so well. The valet was super friendly and the concierge gave us a nice list of local restaurants that we walked to for each meal. Location is fantastic!

A maintenance issue needed addressing, with tub drain and handle broken, but we reported it. The A/C units rattled loudly, but it wasn't a big deal. Some people might have trouble with the occasional road noise.

The room was nice and the bathroom was also spacious. Having the provided products in the shower saved me from worrying about having to drag mine out. When we first arrived Jessica came out to greet us and gave an excellent suggestion of driving to our theater destination. When we arrived back we were greeted again at the door by Christina who happily checked us in while Kenny took great care in getting my car ready for valet parking. They both later gave a great suggestion for dinner. The next morning Sara took care of us for breakfast and was very helpful in helping us make plans for the day. I did not get the gentleman’s name that made my omelette but he made a great one! When we left it felt like we were saying goodbye to friends and I’ve never felt that way at a hotel. Chick fil a has nothing on your customer service and I can’t wait to return!

The staff the rooms were great. The snacks look pricey. Restaurant should be replaced with 2 personnel.. But the hotel staff is perfect above and beyond very courteous, everything's clean.

The restaurant was slow, not military friendly. At all Also, the snacks and hotel for a bag of chips for $3 a bag, everything street dollars. I should work on the prices here. Order hamburger or slow milk an hour and 20 minutes. They left the poor guy shorthanded.

Awesome experience. Staff was great at all levels but valet parking attendants were even greater. Rooms are fantastic, large spacious and up to date. Excellent location and safe to walk and run. Elevators are small but everything else makes up for it. Not convenient to public transportation but only a short walk or drive to restaurants, quaint shops and the convention center. Loved it.

great location, freindly staff, huge and comfortable rooms

I could not have asked for more friendly staff! everyone that I encountered from valet to front desk to even employees leaving their shift who passed us on the sidewalk, were wonderful and kind. I loved the location. I enjoyed being checked in prior to arrival and sincerely appreciated being upgraded without asking! Nicely done!

there was nothing that I didn’t like. I suppose if I wanted to be overly picky, I would say that while the bed was perfectly fine, I have stayed in hotels that offered a more comfortable one. however those pillows were HEAVEN! also the shower water went cold about 3/4 of the way through my shower. Those are very minor things in relation to our overall happiness!

The location was extremely convenient. The rooms were very spacious and clean. Every staff member was super friendly and helpful. We would stay there again and definitely recommend it to others.

The parking situation is not super convenient, but it's not a big deal. The restaurant is not open every day, but that's kinda just the current economic situation. So, also no big deal.
