Great location in the centre of the old town within easy walking distance of the main sights and plenty of restaurants. Staff were all so helpful & friendly and we LOVED the coffee shop for daily cake & coffee after a day out in the snow. Really nice buffet breakfast and the breakfast room had a lovely view of the river.

I haven't marked the hotel down for this but over the weekend 2 nights we could hear music playing until about 4 a.m. ( this wasn't loud but we are light sleepers and it was just enough to affect our sleep) No other reviews seem to mention this so it may have been proximity of our room (306) - which was otherwise lovely - to a music venue somewhere local. The hotel staff were very apologetic but could not fathom out where noise would be coming from. We did not request a room change as we were coming home. This is a lovely hotel & we would stay again ( but take our white noise player!)

Despite the old and steel staircase into the property, this is a true gem. Old merged with the new. Room clean, very large and comfortable. Access to main street is accessible through the back entrance to the hotel. We were sad to leave this hotel. A truly enjoyable and memorable experience.

Hotel Altstadt is located right in the heart of old Salzburg. Walk out front door, and you are at the river and can walk over the bridges to new town. Walk out the back door, and you are in the shopping mecca of Salzburg. The castle is a short walk and very worthwhile. Of course we wanted to see a Mozart concert, and it happened to be right upstairs in the hotel. The restaurant food was excellent. We arrived after January 6th, the off season, so the crowds were very manageable. We upgraded the room, and ended up with a nice suite which included a living room, bedroom, separate toilet, and bathtub.

The building is very old and over the years has joined together with other properties. It is very confusing at first, with lots of rooms, stairways, courtyards, and lifts. The staff showed us to our room a couple of times, but once we got the hang of it, it was lots of fun. Our room had a low entryway, so you had to duck when entering, but we got used to that very quickly.

The location, with direct access to the old town is unbeatable. The rooms are very spacious, very cosy and have everything you need for a comfortable stay. The breakfast buffet is lovely, and there are plenty of areas in the hotel (due to its very old architecture) where you can sit and take in the magic of Salzburg. We traveled as a family of 4, with 2 small children, and were accommodated in 1 room together. The hotel gave us a room with a sofa bed for our children, but there are options to request extra beds if needed. Beds were ok. Room was warm (which was necessary in Winter time).

The staff were sometimes dismissive and rushed, especially at breakfast time. I understand that it was the busy season, however, this is no excuse for being rude. The specific situation involved us ordering from the breakfast menu and wanting to confirm our order was taken correctly (one small request for hard-poached eggs). The staff collected our order card and ignored us trying to get their attention (we got eye contact, so.. it was obvious they were ignoring us). We managed to speak to another waiter to confirm, however, the eggs came to us soft-poached.. As I said above, it’s a busy period, and the staff were otherwise super lovely and friendly and helpful at other times.

The location was ideal. We had never been to Salzburg, and could not have stayed in a better place. We were right in the heart of the old town, near the best cafes and restaurants. We were there for Christmas: we were right next to the next Christmas market, and the ice skating rink, which we used for hours. We took morning runs on the waterfront on the river side of the hotel.

It takes effort to think of anything we didn't like. I had accidentally had to book twice to piece together our dates and despite last minute reservations during the busiest time of year, they kept us in the same 2 rooms... which they located across from either other. I imagine the booking staff must be good at chess.

Historic building, still intact historical interior as well. Very festive decorating for the holidays. Large rooms, solid architecture/quiet rooms with appropriate furnishings/decorations. Nice to have the wood floors, stone hallways. Amazing restaurant and cafe, for more than just for hotel guests. It was only about one block from our favorite christmas market (this is our first time in Salzburg but we have visited several).

Cannot stream video in the rooms/movies on the TVs

Everything , Our double room was one of the Best hotel rooms weve ever stayed in and weve stayed in many hotels throughout throughout the world , Each and every member of Staff were really welcoming and helpfull especially The two ladies who looked after us at breakfast each morning . The hotels location is perfect and everything within walking distance on both sides of the river .

We loved our room and the Hotel decor is Beautiful , We requested a room with a walk in shower and got it ! But the shower cú i le is too small and only Minimuim size its not suitable for broadly built or Tall people . There is room for a bigger shower cubicle or take out the bath and replace it with a walk in shower/ wet room but other than that we would definitley stay in this room again and the views are fantastic

Exceptional check in where they said they had been waiting for us. So, there in the room, a complimentary tray of snacks and champagne awaited us. Our room was large and overlooked the walk street so there was no vehicle noise. Breakfast was buffet style and offered a great variety of choices. And the freshly baked croissants were the best we tasted in Austria! The only slight negative was that the lighting in the bathroom was a bit dim, but then again that was not a real problem. And, I don’t know if it is by accident or by design but the outside mirrors on the elevators are slightly curved so as to give you a slimming look. Wow! Don’t expect an El Greco effect however. All in all a hearty thumbs up for the hotel and its staff.

I mentioned it above, but the lighting in the bathroom was a bit dim because there is no overhead light - only lighting on the borders of the mirror.

Friendly helpful service at check in and with luggage. Comfortable large room. Well appointed. Some English (news) TV channels. Delicious breakfast with large assortment of choices. Coffee orders, though ordered the same each day came out each day as a surprise. Coffee roulette if you will. Excellent location stepping directly into old town.

Pillows too big, tall and puffy. Hard on the neck. I know it's a personal thing and hard to get right.

This is one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in. The welcome was obvious when we first arrived with staff helping us right away, taking our luggage to the room. This continued at reception where we were offered a drink and then a very efficient check-in process. Our bags were in the room when we arrived. The room itself was bright, airy, looked on to the beautiful river and was very traditionally decorated which really fitted in with the Salzburg charm. The air-conditioning was a real benefit and the small chocolate on arrival to the room was very kind. During our stay staff were always checking how we were doing and at the end we were able to extend our check-out by one hour since our train was in the afternoon. This was very kind. We must comment again on the kindness of the staff. This makes such a huge impact on a holiday and I think many people have a lot to learn from the way the staff operate in this hotel. Always smiling, always happy to assist and also very proud of the local area. This is how you do it! A flagship hotel!
