Good location, very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable beds.
No parking available at the hotel. You need to park at the public parking nearby. Even though it is close by walking, with the car, you need to make multiple tours around to go and back to hotel. Breakfast is not included and 25 Eur/person additional cost. For a hotel at this price level, breakfast should have been included. As it is very close to the bahnhof, during the night there were a lot of noises outside, both trains and loud people.

location was excellent, within walking distance from the train station. The only problem is that it was very hard to find with all the constructions going on around the train station, and the hotel staff gave me very unhelpful directions by email. Needless to say how frustrated I was trying to find this hotel which is supposed to be just 5 mins by walking. I ended up walked a long route, on foot, with luggage, by following the very misleading directions given to me by the hotel. I was very upset when I got to the hotel. The rest of the stay was just excellent.
Hotel staff giving very unhelpful direction. Hotel really needs to post clear and accurate direction for guests arriving by train, by subway, by taxi etc respectively.

I loved to be able to really control the room temperature (not having the constant AC all day long, like at some hotels), the bathtub was great, the bed was very comfortable, the staff did an excellent job of cleaning daily, the location was also great: the REWE is very close, and the train station is not very far. A bonus was having the hotel provide a bathrobe and slippers.
I did not like the coffee espresso machine--could not figure out how to use it. It would be a good idea to have a non-slippage mat inside the bathtub. Also, because of all the construction going on, it was hard to find the front entrance to the hotel, for the friend who dropped us off. The young lady at the reception gave us a print-out for next time, since google maps were no help.

Excellent location, very convenient, close to central train station, yet very quiet. Walking distance to everywhere we want to visit in Munich. The room is small but very clean. The beds are comfortable too.
This is not about the hotel itself, but rather the labeling at booking.com. The booking.com website shows rooms with different options, with classic double room as having shared bathroom, and deluxe double room as having private bathroom. I booked the more expensive deluxe double room. When checking with the receptionist at the hotel, I was told all rooms at Excelsior have private bathroom. The staff don't understand what the shared bathroom means.

Check in was very smooth. Staff was very cordial especially Josip who helped a lot with advices about getting around Munich. Rooms were spacious and luxuriously equipped. The location of the hotel is very convenient: it is close to U- Bahn station and few minutes away from Altstadt (oldest part of Munich). Breakfast was excellent with many choices. This is one of the best hotels we ever stayed in. Tip: as the street leading towards the hotel is blocked due to reconstruction call the Hotel to guide you how to drive to the hotel entrance to unload the suitcases and they will tell how to get to the Parking Garage where you get 50% discount as a hotel guest (you pay 15€ which is amazing for the central location).

Lovely, cosy hotel, with excellent warm service. The buffet breakfast is simple but satisfying, and the staff go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. We enjoyed the option to not have our room serviced every day, and used the credits for the mini-bar, which was a nice touch. The hotel is located right by the main train station for Munich which makes it very convenient for arrival by train or onward travel by train, and it’s a short walk into the central tourist areas of Munich. It’s our second time at the hotel, this time with our children, who were both accommodated in our room. The rooms are not spacious, but they are recently refurbished and very clean and cosy.
Nothing, it’s a lovely hotel.

The hotel is old (since 1900), but very charming. Before I made the reservation, I was a little worried it might be too dated, but I was pleasantly surprised by the modern updates that made our stay very comfortable. The hotel staff were very welcoming, responsive and hospitable, and super helpful with all of our requests and questions throughout the stay. The breakfast spread was excellent with many options to choose from, and I appreciated the fresh eggs and coffee that are made to order. The rooms are furnished beautifully, with cohesive design throughout the hotel. Our room was quite spacious with extra seating area which was very helpful with our active son. My mom's room was quite a bit smaller but sufficient for one person. Though some of the upholstery showed wear and tear, the bed linens were spotless and crisp, and mattresses are very comfortable. The location is great - just a short walk from the bustling shopping area & Marienplatz. Immediately next to the hotel, you can find a Rewe grocery store as well as a DM drugstore which were very useful since we were travelling with a toddler who needed milk and fresh fruit for snacks. We ended up walking a lot, and taking Ubers a couple times, but there is also trams and subways right by the hotel. We stayed two nights here and left to explore another part of Germany, then returned to Munich several days later. We made the mistake of booking another hotel for our 2nd stay in Munich, and we sorely regretted that decision. If there's an opportunity to travel to Munich again, I would absolutely stay here again. :)
Some of the upholstered furniture in the rooms looked like they could use re-upholstering.

Hotel Excelsior was our first stop on our Bavarian tour, and it provided quiet and comfortable accommodations that helped us adjust to jet lag. The room’s practical layout—with a walk-in closet, a separate hallway to the bathroom, and a door to the bedroom—minimized disturbances during the night. The décor was bright and cheerful, and the well-built structure reduced noise and light effectively. The hotel’s location was ideal, situated directly across from Munich Hauptbahnhof (the main train station). Right outside the front door, we found access to the underground transportation system, making it incredibly easy to explore the city. Though we initially walked to the hotel from Karlsplatz, we later realized the main station was just as close. From the hotel, we enjoyed a pleasant walk to Marienplatz and ended up walking almost everywhere within the city. The train station also made day trips to Dachau and Neuschwanstein Castle convenient and affordable. Breakfast was a highlight, with a wide variety of options, including made-to-order eggs and an impressive tea station.
Although not anything that greatly took away from our stay, here are a couple of things to be aware of: The bathroom was well-equipped, however the shower positioned within the bathtub that sprayed water onto the floor if the curtain isn't adjusted properly. Our room overlooked Bayerstraße, and while the open windows were a nice feature, the street was noisy with tram traffic and activity late into the evening during our weekend stay. If you prefer open windows at night, I suggest requesting a room overlooking Schützenstraße or the inner courtyard for a quieter outlook.

I loved the ambiance and interior of the hotel, especially the reception and the breakfast areas! Once you enter, you’ll feel like you are in a nicely designed chalet, very warm and good taste of interior. The breakfast was delicious, the staff were prompt and the atmosphere was so cozy and nicely designed that I wanted to spend more time during our breakfasts:) Our room (deluxe jr suit) was very spacious, it has a king size bed plus one extra bed, also 2 sofas and we still had plenty of room to walk around. We stayed with our 4 year old son so it’s important to have enough space in a hotel room for us which was way more comfy than I expected. The wc and the bathroom were separate so it’s a pro for us again:) The only thing about the room is that the wc-bathroom doors are sliding matted glass. It kind of decreases the privacy but was not a big deal for us. The bed was soo comfortable! The furnitures, window sills and overall placement of the room was spaciously organized. The location of the hotel was also convenient, 5min walking distance to the Eizauber on Karlplatz. As we visited for the Christmas Markets, it was good for us. The hotel is a bit secluded from the chaos of the christmas markets, but close enough by walking. If I visit Munich again, I’ll definitely stay here :) Thank you!

The hotel was immaculate and the rooms were very large and cozy with a large, comfortable bed. The hotel was an easy 10 min walking distance to marienplatz christmas market. We also enjoyed the breakfast in the hotel. I would highly recommend it and be sure to ask for the made-to-order omelette. All the hotel staff were very kind and helpful. Note: Parking is offsite for €15/day in a secure garage. Check in your luggage directly in front of the hotel before parking offsite. The airport is about 45min away.
The construction going on in the neighborhood has many of the streets blocked off and detoured. You will need to call the hotel to get directions if you find road to the hotel is blocked off when you arrive. Note that the roadwork is not the hotel’s fault. All hotels in this area are most likely affected.
