Great location,easily walkable to town centre/Castle. Friendly helpful staff, great breakfast and lovely room. Chose hotel for location and pool facilities.

Booked this hotel as it had a pool, however on arrival learnt extra £10 per person to use facilities. Apparently mentioned somewhere in small print. In fairness to the hotel, gave us a voucher to use pool once during our stay. Wouldn't choose this hotel again; when booking a hotel with pool facilities for this price would expect use of facilities to be included.

Staff was very attentive and kind. Location is good: close to city centre and Queen Street train station (1 stop away from Cardiff Bay). The room was clean and equipped with hairdryer, iron, fridge and the bathroom had both a bathtub and a shower. Daily housekeeping if needed

The food in the restaurant is not recommended. The quality is very low and waiting times long. I would not book breakfast included, very little options and tasteless food. Spa facilities are £10 per entry so if you are going in 3 times a day (no matter how long you stay) you’d pay £30.

I've stayed here about 5 times altogether and always book a little night away for my parents ..was very disappointed I booked my parents a night away on January 3rd for a chritsmas present to find out they wanted 25 pound for them to use the spa facilities and pool and also 10 pound each for a dry robes..so was very disappointed to hear that as they haven't got much money and it spoilt my present to them 😢 so going forward I will not be staying in the mercure ever again..staff were very friendly so can't take that away from them but a bit of a shock you pay to stay somewhere and can't use the facilities

Why is there a £10 access charge for residents to use the pool? I can understand a charge for non-residents, but residents should not be charged.

Because I was there to work on some writing, I chose to stay in a suite at the top of the building. Having two rooms allowed me to separate my working area from the bed and bathroom. It was good to be able to have good breakfast and I enjoyed those as a good start to each day. The staff were, without exception, friendly and helpful. There were nice spa and pool facilities, which made for a more pleasant stay.

The menu provided for lunch and dinner was to me quite unpleasant, I am sorry to say. After the experience of eating there on the day of my arrival, I went out every day to a lovely Italian restaurant some 10 minutes walk away.

Beautiful views from our room, an incredibly comfortable room with a great layout and a large immaculate bathroom. Temperature of thr room was easy to control and extra radiators were also provided in the room for extra warmth in December. Friendly staff members who are always happy to help. Even a complimentary room upgrade as we were celebrating a birthday, and they had arranged balloons, a banner and a cake upon request. Hotel restaurant was very clean and well organised. Parking was easy to find a space and conveniently located beneath the hotel. Location of the hotel was ideal, within walking distance of all the shopping centres, winter market and castle. The weekend we spent here was perfect and I wouldn't hesitate before booking to return to this hotel!

Very small point but the 'complimentary soft drinks' in our fridge were a little limited, with one fanta and one lemonade. We would have appreciated at least two of each so we didn't have to choose who gets which! Also only one of us got slippers with our robes, haha!

The room was very comfortable I particularly liked that the bed for the third person was a proper bed and not a sofa bed. The food was also very nice particularly the breakfast. The car park was really convenient as my husband is disabled and the parking spot was right next to the hotel entrance. However, there was a slope and the doors were not automatic opening so a bit tricky to push a wheelchair up and open the door. But overall, we really enjoyed our stay and found it comfortable. We didn't get a chance to use the Spa facility which is a shame - next time!

As I said above the only thing I struggled with was the slope up to the door from the carpark to the hotel entrance as my husband is in a wheelchair. If the door opened automatically (or if there was a disabled button to open the door) it would have made it easier to push the wheelchair up the slope and into the hotel.

The room was very quiet? But the inside seals on the windows were flakey and dirty, they needed cleaning - the rest of the room was spotless, Breakfast was brilliant lots of choice and refills too! The pool needs a lot more maintenance, check it and you'll understand.

The pool needed maintenance cleaning! Same with the steam room. Also the windows in the room we were in, the sealant on the window to the far right bottom corner of the bed was caked in grime and didn't want to look any further, was coveted with a curtain and it was for a night so we were fine. Windows need to be checked more thoroughly.

Facilities were great, reception helpful and speedy. Also replied to quieres quickly by email. Parking was easy. Especially considering it was a rugby day. Room layout lovely, bed excellent. Bathroom shiningly clean. We didn't use the pool but will next time. The bar area was really nice, spacious, modern and a nice view out onto the road to watch the traffic. (No hint of sarcasm there, I like to watch city life)

Minor dislikes. Paintwork a little knocked about in the room. Wish the windows had been cleaner so we could admire the exceptional view of the bay, Penarth and the Holmes. Such a waist of a super large window.

This has got to be the cleanest hotel I've ever stayed in. Our twin bedroom was very spacious. Beds are very comfortable with everything you could need, hairdryer, iron & board, fridge & safe. Staff are very polite & helpful, especially the restaurant staff & the chef doing breakfast. Great cooked breakfast, enjoyed while sitting in the large window watching the world go by. The location is ideal for the City Center. Spa facilities were great. Lovely big swimming pool, jacuzzi & sauna available. The afternoon tea is a must.

Lounge beds by the pool side are fairly uncomfortable if using them for a long period of time. Car park cost of £24 a day I felt was a big high. The hot water in the bathroom could get VERY hot, maybe a little note to make guests aware.
