This low-key hotel is located on the edge of the city in a quiet village with lots of bars and restaurants. The intimate breakfast area doubles as a meeting point for people who live and work in the village which adds a bit of buzz at all times of the day. Although the Mayfair presents as a boutique hotel in size it is designed to the best hotel standards. Everything works down to the smallest details whether it be reading in bed, sitting at a computer, powering up the gadgets or just looking at the view. It is understated as an experience but is relaxing and functional. Perfect in fact.

Nothing. Loved every minute of it. Staying at the Mayfair turned out to be a great start for a 3-week holiday on the South Island. To make our start even better, we found the nearby Athens Yacht Club nearby for a snack and drink after our late arrival. Athens Yacht Club sounds crazy for a bar but that suited us well. The food was truly Modern Athenian with Greek wine to match. The best part though was one of the Athens Yacht Club staff...Nicki. The Yacht Club was getting quieter so Nicki sat down with us and wrote down a list of restaurants and unusual wines for us to chase all over the South Island which we did of course...great fun! If we hadn't chosen the Mayfair this might not have happened.

Breakfast was delicious, and wasnt charged extra for OJ and added on bits from the menu, that in total made up for the visit and we really enjoyed our stay and felt appreciated. Absolutely love Byredo, the overall and final choice of our stay was to do with my favorite product being used in the Hotel.

Initially when we arrived, the girl behind the counter was not patient enough for my husbands payment to go through, we almost ended up paying twice because of it. Our initial room was smelling of ashtray, lovely Natascha changed our room and we got a lovely fresh smelling room which we really appreciated.

Lovely boutique hotel on the edge of the city. Offering very comfortable rooms and super-king sized beds. For us a great spot to use to explore the city area and all its attractions. Whilst the hotel has a small restaurant and bar which we didn’t use during our stay, it was always very busy. There are numerous restaurants in a short walking distance, as well as, those in the centre of the city, being only a short taxi ride away.

Unfortunately, on our second evening the restaurant and bar had been booked out for a private function, so unable for residents to use. Perhaps next time we stay.

Very friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant was excellent for breakfast. Incredibly comfortable bed, duvet and linens. The room was nice, but not spectacular. Very modern and tasteful, but just a standard mid-market hotel room. The location is pretty good, 10 minute walk to the CBD, several restaurants nearby.

For the price paid, I expected a lot more. No breakfast included, no facilites like gym or pool. To be fair, this is all mentioned on the website and it's not like they are being deceptive, it's just very expensive. Maybe Christchurch is just expensive for hotels, but I have stayed in several in Auckland for a similar or lower price and got a lot more bang for my buck.

Central, chic, modern, parking

After registering at reception we walked into a room already occupied by a family. This was very embarrassing but thank goodness they weren’t naked or in a compromising position. Also we are grateful this didn’t happen to us after we finally got given our room. An unacceptable 50 minute wait to get breakfast on Christmas Day. Also not enough sugar available for coffee - it’s not a restricted drug guys!!

The location is very convenient. Room was comfortable. They provided a service where we could swap the down pillows for other options, I liked that. The French press coffee they provided in the room was some of the best coffee we had in NZ. However, it would be nice if the hotel provided plant-based milk alternatives.

No plant-based/vegan options on their breakfast/room service menu. I don't recall them mentioning that the parking was an extra cost. It's not an issue; it's just an observation.

Beautiful brand new hotel with a great cafe/restaurant on the premises . After three weeks travelling around NZ this was the perfect end to our anniversary trip . The staff at all times were the most helpful friendly people couldn’t ask for anything more . We received a beautiful welcome and a lovely anniversary treat in our room . The room was excellent and as part of the tariff free snacks which was also fabulous . Great well stocked mini bar as well. A short walk to the beautiful city of Christchurch and great position near Hayley Park .

Loved everything

Clean and modern hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Close-ish to the main part of town (about a 15-25 min walk). The hotel has tablets in the room where you can order a range of services which was incredible! Things like room service, sewing kits/ bathroom items, hair straighteners, E-bikes, different pillows (softer/ firmer), this hotel has really thought of everything. Also the rooms are massive and the bed was also big and super comfortable.

The only thing that was a downside was paying for parking however this was the first city we’ve stayed in the NZ so it’s understandable. Having two different options for different prices was great though.

Have stayed in many of the best Christchurch hotels and this is my new favorite. It will be my first choice from now on. Very friendly staff. Very comfortable and well designed room. Block out drapes work well. Kitchenette very useful. Great Byredo bathroom products. Downstairs cafe very convenient. Good new smart TV with casting

The only thing I would add to the room to make it perfect would be a Nespresso coffee machine.
