Room was modern and well appointed. Appreciated the washer and dryer in the bathroom. Breakfast was excellent and was included in our booking. Bed was comfortable and climate control in the room was perfect. Shower had a choice of two shower heads. Kitchenette included microwave and sink.

Parking was an extra $27 per day and was in a different building. Reception is at the rear of the building which we had to discover ourselves. Bar closes early so not somewhere to have a late night drink, you best get take away or room service. A G&T and a glass of wine cost $35.

The hotel is a historic building and it's fantastic. The parking lot is right across from the hotel. When you check in, just give the parking card you took to the front desk to pay, it's a bit over 20 NZD per night. The room is really spacious and amazing, with a view of the coastline from one corner. There’s a washer and dryer in the room, which are super convenient to use.

The parking ticket is very prone to malfunctioning. Each time I tried to insert the ticket into the machine at the parking lot exit, it didn’t work. I had to park the car again and go back to the front desk to refresh the ticket before I could leave. I saw several other people having the same issue in the parking lot.

Excellent location, handy to city centre, walking distance to shops and restaurants. Rooms were spotless and exceptionally quiet. Good buffet breakfast, plenty of choice. Excellent staff, friendly and helpful. Comfortable beds, good pillows. Parking was easy to access and lots of spaces available (although there were also parks available on the street).

Toiletries in silly little bottles - difficult to get contents out.

Upgraded to junior suite - very thankful! Big bathroom, narrow but more than adequate living/kitchen/dining room, very large bedroom. Super clean. Large shower which did *not* tend to splash into the rest of the bathroom. Nice large porcelain tiling in bathroom, single sheet of tempered glass for backsplash in kitchen which is great cuz to my mind the less grout the better...nice mini bar and great tea selection. The building being built as post office in ~1937 is built like a concrete tank. Very quiet. Quiet area a quick few blocks from the Octogon and surrounds.

Lighting in the eating area was my main dislike. It's a cold blue color like a hospital or old high school cafeteria, to my mind. Should have been a warmer, more inviting color of lighting. The worst part of breakfast was the coffee. If I had thought more than one step ahead I would have brought coffee down from the excellent coffee machine (Nespresso, I think) in the room. Car park was $25/night which is common for the area and the garage being directly adjacent and mostly empty made it totally worth it.

All staff were very friendly and helpful, but the manager on duty was just exceptional! We were there partly to watch the first All Blacks match at the hotel. He helped reserve the best table in the restaurant for watching the game, and he even let us know the best time to be catching up with the players after the match without disturbing them. I can't ask for more with a staff like him. We were there with my mom and my daughter, so the mini suite with 2 rooms and a living room was perfect.

We were there for a very busy New Year's Eve. So impressed with the staff and enjoyed the food too--although I wouldn't have put two salmon dishes on one set menu. The same set menu the next night meant the choices were limited, and there weren't options elsewhere due to the holidays. However we both enjoyed the bar menu on the second night. Note--we spent 3 nights as we had the booking dates wrong.

As an older client I felt that the shower floor was slippery and that a rubber bathmat, available in the drawer, would have been welcome. I also wasn't impressed with the wine selection.

The facilities fitted in with just what I required. A mixture of hotel/motel facilities providing me with what I wanted, what was available to me and my own in/out privacy. A great combination and I will definitely come again.

Don't think there was anything I didn't like, thank-you. Just an initial confusion with staff regarding the AM and PM collection of my breakfast the previous day instead of suggested early in the morning I was leaving, i.e., 5:00am when I was being collected by my shuttle for the airport at 3:45am. No worries we sorted it out.

This room was perfect for us because we were on a 2 week driving holiday. The room we booked also had a washing machine and drier which came in super handy. This room was probably the most spacious room we had on the entire trip with a lounge, separate bedroom and large bathroom. The showers were pretty cool, you set the temperature and just pushed a button to start. Also the beds in the Distinction Hotels have been the most comfortable so far on our entire trip. Outweighing some of the really expensive hotels that we've booked by far.

Nothing to note of anything we didn't like. Great location, staff and again the perfect room for our stay for an affordable price.

This was a extremely pleasant surprise after a very exhausting 4 week driving tour around New Zealand . Super easy to find and a huge drop off area in front of the main entrance . The staff were absolutely awesome and the free under cover parking right next to the hotel was bonus . Bed was without doubt the most comfortable we had on the entire tour and a superb view of the city and harbour . Should be rated as a 5 star not 4 star as it was , It was that good .

Location was great and the room and beds were really comfortable with everything we needed. The extra room was fantastic and the kids loved there room it was so big and the beds were comfortable. We dined in the restaurant and it was beautiful food , everything was top notch.

Everything was great but if I had to say one thing they should of had two remotes for the main room tv and another for the bedroom one but other than that it was super.
