The view to city
There was no air con in the room as the room was really hot as we had to open windows to cool the room off

Was so nice to be able to have such a lovely breakfast before getting back on the road. So much to choose from coffee was delish. And kept it pretty festive with the classic Easter buns. Left feeling ready for the long drive ahead
Was nothing about the hotel itself, But getting woken up at 1am to a domestic argument above us with slamming doors and colourful language, which lasted a solid 1 1/2 hours, wasn’t a restful night. We didn’t get as much rest as we needed to drive safety to our next destination. The hotel staff were very helpful when we informed them.

The room had a private balcony, fabulous view and two big beds. It had everything I wanted except for bathroom cleanliness. It was roomy and warm. Good selection of teas and coffees. Beds were very comfortable.
A curtain was falling off a rail and there was not a ceiling light. I had to walk across the room to turn on the lamps which would have been inconvenient in the dark. One lamp was tricky to operate and did not seem electrically sound. The fan in the bathroom did not work and the room filled with condensation. The bathroom fittings had not been cleaned in a while and had very noticeable black slime around them and in the grouting.

The location - close to the hospital Bed was comfortable
The furnishings are a bit outdated. I opened up a cupboard where the iron was kept and it was dirty/ dusty. The heater on the wall also could have used a good clean. Getting the shower going was a bit of a mission and the water pressure wasn’t great. Stepping out of the bath/ shower was uncomfortable as the side of the bath is quite high. Simple instructions would have been great on how to work the different taps. Breakfast was nice but the area where people dined was too small. Some diners I believe had their breakfast put on trays and were eating in the bar.

Excellent location and free breakfast a plus it was great. Bed comfortable and room quiet considering the hotel was full and a Highlanders game on that night. Nice friendly staff.
Nothing. I read the reviews about paying for carparking and suggest people read reviews when they book so they are aware of this. I also read some reviews about the hotel being a bit older etc, some of these not very nice, but again, it's a 3-star hotel, not a 5 star. If you want a 5 star hotel book that but I really enjoyed this one.

The bath!!!! The balcony in being able to be in the fresh air, view from room over town. TV having free SKY movie channels. Wifi easy access. Pillows were comfy and soft, as was the bed. Lamps were good near TV, bed. Table lamp was great for doing computer work. Good wardrobe and luggage space. Choice of double bed beside window or interior. Liquid soap and shampoo/conditioner were soothing and silky, moisturising. Good safety with bubble surface on bath and anti slip mat. Great mirror in bathroom. Towels very soft. Liked the face cloth decoratve display. Lift access to rooms good, location in Dunedin well within walking distance to CBD and town. Daily cleaning and fresh milk good. Fridge in cupboard good, chairs and table great. Good breakfast, porridge an extra bonus with toppings, seeds, good variety fruits, cereals, provision for glutlen free, wide variety of breads. The beautiful wooden carved mural of Victorian times added to he dining expereince. Hotel staff, reception, dining room, cleaning,, could not have been more helpful and friendly. My stay was associated with a court hearing, so the Kingsgate was the ideal place in quiet, private, comforting ambience to stay. I especially appreciated hotel assistance when I had my booking cancelled by an agnecy and then I accidentally booked the wrong date. Also, having staff bring a food delivery person to my door when I was extremely tired, was absolutely wonderful. I look forward to the Jimmy Cook dining experience when returnng to Dunedin. The hotel had a warmth of atmosphere with its older, rather than ultra modern sterile style. This gave a sense of the wealth of history living within the hotel, of belonging with many people who had come to stay inside its walls. It is very "comfortable" in this unseen aspect, that makes the Kingsgate a great stay. I would like to suggest that this historic aspect of the hotel be retained and further enhanced in any future renovations.
The restaruant was closed for evening meals on my visit. No information brochure in the room. No Milo/chocolate drink with tea and coffee sachets. No central light option in room. Soap/shampoo and tap not easily accessible when sitting in bath.

Very friendly receptionists, easy to find parking in either their designated parking lot or immediately beyond it on the street. Reception made us aware when the city starts charging for parking so we could be sure to plug the meter or move our car beforehand--very considerate! The room was spotless and comfortable with lovely huge windows viewing out into the city. The breakfast served was delicious as well!!
Could only find an outlet in between the two beds, not any on the outer sides. It worked out fine for us but could inconvenience others.

A very clean but well worn hotel right in the center of the city. Excellent staff. Good value as our booking included a hearty breakfast with hot and cold options. Our booked room had an issue with a non functioning sliding door and we were immediately upgraded to a very spacious Suite. Excellent service.
There was no compendium in the room. You scanned a QR code to access all the usual information. The code could be displayed more prominently around the hotel. It was a very small illustration on the back of the room key card holder.

Stay was okay. Breakfast was lovely and nice to be included in package. Staff were very friendly and obliging in the dining room. Beds comfortable. All and all a nice stay. Great location.
When I booked 3 rooms the same and requested if possible inter-connecting rooms, I was told that wasn't available, but we could have rooms beside one-another, then to find one couple were on a different level, was disappointing. Also disappointed with the lack of carparking available. Would be great if there were USB charging points available. Hallway could do with seeing the hoover.

Central location, pleasant view over the city, quiet. It's definitely dated but for us the plus features outweighed the minuses. Most staff were friendly and helpful (the gentleman on reception when we arrived early to to store our bags was courteous but unhelpful). Excellent buffet breakfast. Very comfortable beds. It's hard to make a building with such dated decor look pristine but the floors in our room, the bedlinen and the bathroom were all clean.
