I had a single bed & room. A small window looking at the building opposite. It was nothing flash but it was very clean and I was comfortable. Small fridge. Great shower. Something to put your case on would be useful. A kind of cool art deco building which I liked. Parking was helpful. Location is very handy. I enjoyed my stay.

It would be nice if the rubbish was cleaned up on the outside, on the fire escape stairs, outside from the windows. Also nice if the window was on a latch and you could securely leave a window open for some air. Loo roll holder in a ridiculous place, but not really much of a problem.

It was easy to find, close to everything and comfy

There was a window in the bathroom that was permanently open that had a cold breeze come though, thankfully there was a door to shut the bathroom but was annoying when trying to shower and the curtain was blowing into the shower, also I was happy to keep re-using my towels over the few days I was there and they were changed everyday (lots of washing) the tv remote didn’t seem to work very well and there was a huge dust web hanging on the ceiling.

It was a pleasant surprise to know that the Queen had stayed at the hotel long time ago. The room was small but very cozy, included an electric blanket and everything you could ask for in a hotel. Contrary to some of the reviews, the place was quiet although was a little squeaky due to the wooden structure. Overall, it was good value for money with lots of food options around.

I would not recommend they change anything else they will loose the vintage feel.

Nice spacious room / Central location / close to many attractions / friendly helpful staff / liked the art deco style of the place / great to have dining options in-house

Noise from traffic on weekdays (not weekends) was the worst thing. While they have double glazed part of the room, the curved window was not. Add in the hotel is on one of the main one-way thoroughfares through the city, so lots of trucks are rumbling past from 5am. Not the hotel's fault but the local council who were short-sighted when they decided to put a main thoroughfare right through the city beside hotels Also very easy to get woken during night by my neighbour slamming door / flushing loo etc. Walls must be thin with little soundproofing.

The hotel is right in Dunedin so we were able to walk to the shopping centre and local tourist sights. The pub downstairs was great. We ate one meal in the dining room and it was fantastic. Our beds were really comfortable and the rooms were warm (we travelled in winter). The bathroom was clean and airy with a big window which opened. This was a neat hotel which I would describe as "art deco" but this could be the wrong description. They also had free parking for hotel guests which was MUCH appreciated!

Some of the items around the hotel could use a deep clean (lampshades, chair covers) but overall the place was clean.

Staff, they upgrade us to a better room. Staff very kind and helpful

I think , in my humble opinion a Historic Hotel in a Historic Rationalist Building (Eric Mendelson 100% design), a pity that the acting owners don't appreciate what a gem they have and the hotel looks run down. It is also a historical site, where the Queen of England and the Duke of Edinburgh (RIP) stayed overnight. The PUB has unfortunately been dismantled, especially the Chimney area, there are some decorations left over, plastic flowers... they have very good pieces of vintage English ceramics... Too many things that correspond more to a Chinese restaurant than a classic modernist building.

The staff were keen to assist with any concerns we had. The location was super central so getting anywhere in the city centre was a breeze. The beds were super comfortable, and given the cool weather, we appreciated the electric blankets. The water pressure in the showers was excellent as well.

If you are a little on the larger size, the bathrooms may not be the easiest to shower in, given the era the hotel was built in.

The hotel is in very easy walking distance of concert venues in the city centre so it's an ideal place to stay when you're from out of town and don't want to drive to and from Dunedin on the same night. My room was very basic and small, but it met my needs.

There was a minor problem with car parking arrangements when I first arrived at the hotel. The car park was full. I was advised at the reception desk that parking was available on a 'first come, first served' basis. Not what I expected to hear after a couple of hours driving. I'd expected that hotel guests would be able to park safely on the hotel's premises. After a conversation between the person working on the reception desk and another member of staff, the other member of staff moved her vehicle and I was able use to the space where her car had been parked.

The location of the hotel was very central in the city and made it very easy to get to places. The room was bright and airy - they also provide a heater and a fan to adjust temperature to your liking. The bedding is super comfortable and warm. The hotel restaurant serves up wonderfully sized meals - you definitely get your values worth, and the meals are delicious. The staff are all friendly and very helpful.

It would be nice to have some laundry facilities onsite to reduce the amount of luggage needed as the nearest laundromats are not close.

Really comfortable bed and spacious room.

We were 1 hour early for check in, but the male staff member shouted from the back of the desk: no 2 o'clock check in, not earlier! And repeated this a few times. While we just asked if the room was ready for check-in. But he didn't want the female staff member to see if it was possible. That was a shame, because the rest of our stay was perfect.
