We had a studio overlooking the lake on the second floor. It was a beautiful view. The room was large with plenty of space and a kitchenette. It was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The little verandah overlooked the lake and we used it often. There is a laundry with washer and dryer and free laundry detergent. It is only a short walk into Taupo for good restaurants and cafes. Bantry Restaurant is just around the corner and is superb.

The light in the car park at the front shone into the bedroom. Apart from that, it was a lovely room with a view. The laundry has just one washing machine and one dryer, and had a lot of use from the guests. Consequently we couldn't use the dryer, and had to hang our washing around the room. Not a big drama.

Positives: - The motel is right on the waterfront and had an awesome view. - Even though it was right on the waterfront you couldn't hear the traffic, which was a nice bonus. - Easy parking. Parking in town was free as well if you need to drive. - The kitchen was clean and had everything we needed for a weekend away so didn't really need to eat-out, but there are also great options in town (which was within walking distance)! - Bed was comfortable.

We stayed in a one-bedroom apartment during the summer and the bedroom was quite hot at night. There was airconditioning in the living area but this did not extend into the bedroom.

I loved this accommodation, we stayed 2 nights, check in was very easy, the room was perfect for me and my husband, lots of parking spaces, the lake was right across the road, where we went for a quick dip, ice cream and coffee near by. Town is far enough to escape the noise but also close enough to drive there and do some shopping etc. We had the rooms at the back with a view and it was so beautiful, you can still see with privacy. Great place to stay, I will definitely book again.

Very well equipped unit! Nice walking distance to both downtown Taupo and my uncle's home. Being by the lake with a view was a bonus! The managers were really friendly and had several good tips for breakfast and dinner spots in town. We were so happy with the free laundry, especially after a muddy few days in the Tongariro National Park. We would definitely choose Sails on a next visit to Taupo.

While the view was great, we hadn't realized that the motel was located on the main road into town. We found it a bit noisy as we like to sleep with open windows. We stayed at Sails again after a few days at Tongariro National Park and had a room at the back, which was much quieter.

I liked that it was straight across from the Lake and close to town. It also had sky tv. The unit was a great size with 2 exit doors. It was nice and breezy with both doors open.

Parking. I feel units should have allocated numbered parking. I went to town came back and a trailer was parked in a car park just out front of our unit. I parked around the corner and was getting very bad looks the next day from another person staying. I had taken “their” park.

We had a great stay here. The room was immaculate and felt comfortable. Had a large sized bed, spa bath with jets, awesome view of the lake, heating, lighting and all other facilities were great! We were away from the road so didn’t hear any cars at night and parking was right next to our room. We chose the perfect location as it is close to town and other nearby activities aswel. Highly recommend this place as we definitely got our moneys worth and staff are lovely. We will be back!

Everything was great

A lovely cosy apartment right on the lake maybe 15-20 minutes walk up the waterfront to the main town. Our room itself has a spacious and comfy separate bedroom, a full kitchen area, and a lovely living area - it feels very homely and relaxed. It's also super clean, and has expansive TV channels. The staff are very friendly and flexible and there is a washing machine for free use. Nothing to fault at all!

The separate bedroom was nice, the cooking utensils etc were clean, & the location fantastic. We walked to the harbour & shops in 25mins. It was especially nice to have free use of a washing machine & drier. Good customer service from reception.

The cleaners left our room unlocked & unattended, but this was quickly addressed & apologised for when we brought it to the attention of the management.

The view was amazing. Great views of the lake and mountains, will depend on what room you are in. Nice separate balconies and had a BBQ grill in the back lot. Equipped kitchen, plenty of comfy blankets. Good table space, large bathroom with a big tub. Plenty of towels. Great staff. Overall, pretty good.

The bed was so so on comfort. Lot of light through the back glass door and no way to cover it. They had a sofa that was a pull out bed, that was not very comfortable to sit on. The TV had lots of channels, but was very small.

The location for a walk into town was perfect and the view from our window was stunning.

The only problem was the road noise at times in the night and they don’t have double glazing in many places in NZ. It’s the same for all the properties along the front, so I am not knocking this hotel.
