We recently stayed at the Catalonia Puerta del Sol in Madrid, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The hotel is beautifully designed, blending classic architecture with modern amenities, ensuring a comfortable and stylish stay. One of the standout features of this hotel is its fantastic location. Nestled in the heart of Madrid, it is within walking distance to many of the city's top attractions, including the vibrant Puerta del Sol and the historic Plaza Mayor. What made the stay even more enjoyable was the proximity to a plethora of restaurants. Whether you're in the mood for traditional Spanish tapas, fine dining, or international cuisine, you'll find a multitude of excellent dining options just a stone's throw away. The hotel's staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, always ready to assist with any requests or provide recommendations for places to eat and visit. My room was spacious, clean, and well-equipped, offering a peaceful retreat after a day of exploring the bustling city. Overall, the Catalonia Puerta del Sol is a perfect choice for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the rich culture and culinary delights of Madrid. I highly recommend this hotel for its superb location, wonderful accommodations, and outstanding service.

Good location, beautifully appointed, friendly staff. Taiis in particular was very welcoming. A really nice experience overall. I have noticed when using booking.com with a higher quality hotel like this, I frequently receive a room that’s noisier than if I went directly to the hotel for a reservation. The room we were in was like this. It was lovely and clean. But it was on the 3rd floor facing the street. Garbage trucks, taxis and police cars rolled by throughout the night. The hotel did not seem to be full at all, and we could easily have been placed on the opposite side, but weren’t. I would imagine you’re already aware this is an issue in hotels. It’s almost as if they’ve set aside their “worst” rooms for booking.com clients, because they have to pay you a fee.

Great open area with bar and seating in the centre of the hotel. Made it very pleasant to relax in the hotel, after we'd been out for food or drinks. The bartender was very accomodating and quick with the drinks. The room itself was excellent. A great size and a comfortable bed. The air con was a life saver in the heat, as were the water jugs near the entrance! I also enjoyed the breakfast. A simple selection of meats and pastries, but it was tasty and started the day well.
It might have been nice to see some more local/traditional food on the room service menu, but we were quite happy to head out to local restaurants for our meals. Other than that, we didn't have any complaints.

We stayed at Catalonia Puerta del Sol for three nights and had an excellent experience. The duplex room exceeded our expectations—beautifully designed, spacious, and equipped with high-end amenities that made our stay feel extra comfortable. The staff were warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived, and the location couldn’t be better—central, convenient, and easy to explore Madrid from. Breakfast was also a highlight: fresh, varied, and well presented each morning. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for comfort, style, and a top-tier experience in Madrid.
One small note: at night, we occasionally heard some noise from the lobby area. It wasn’t constant and didn’t significantly impact our stay, but worth knowing if you're a light sleeper.

I was pleasantly surprised by the neatness of this hotel. Everything, from the foyer to the bed and bathroom, was spotless and tidy. The corridors were also freshly painted. I stayed here for one night and was unable to use their restaurant, room service, or any other services, but I had a very nice stay and felt the location to be excellent. It's fairly close to the Grand Via and Plaza Mayor. There is a supermarket and a really great breakfast restaurant directly beside the hotel, as well as dozens of bars and restaurants within walking distance.
The pricing might be improved. I believe that on some occasions/dates, the rates charged exceed the worth of this hotel.

We had a suite on the first floor, which was really nice (not Ritz penthouse, but great for the money, particularly with a separate bedroom since I had to do some work while visiting). The atrium in the center was really a pleasant place to relax. The gem is the staff - everyone, from the front desk to the housekeepers to (and especially) the food service staff (breakfast, room service, and lunch in the atrium) were pleasant and accommodating, very nice people. Location is a little farther than some others from the Plaza Major, etc., but cabs are plentiful, easy to find and flag down, and not really overpriced compared to London and other major cities.
Location a little bit away from the center, but other than that we really liked this hotel.

It's tough to give a fair review of the hotel, as we landed in the middle of the blackout! The staff were fantastic and did a great job of making us feel as comfortable as possible. That said, we were put in a fairly basic, but ironically with a very comfortable bed. The next day, they were super kind to change us into a room with a street view - a smaller but nicer room, but with a seriously uncomfortable bed! That said, it's a beautiful building, and if you want to be central, it's a pretty good location.
If you like sleeping with the window open, bring your earplugs. Both courtyard and street rooms have serious noise issues unless you keep the windows shut. Overall, I think it was pretty expensive for the rooms provided.

So close to the centre of Madrid and Plaza Mayor! Breakfast was very good and staff friendly.
No fan in the toilet which was a bit uncomfortable.

Location is great, though it's better to ask for a back room rather than a front one, due to the street noise. Breakfast is very good.
We checked in around 9:30pm, took a shower and the bath was immediately overflooded. Right in the morning we reported that issue and were promised it will be handled promptly. We were amazed to return to the room around 4pm that day, the bath issue was not fixed and the room was not yet cleaned. Only that evening they managed to take care of everything, after our second complaint. The same inconvenience with the room cleaning occurred once again, and the staff's response was "we apologize but the hotel is full". Thus, every morning we had to specifically ask to have the room cleaned by noon. We believe they can do better.

Breakfast, good choices especially as we’re vegetarian. Love being able to order omelettes as we wanted. Good range of cereal and fresh fruit. Very helpful staff especially Sonia. Relaxed pleasant atmosphere but efficient. Hotel position good for walking around Madrid. Convenient Metro station a few minutes walk (Tirso de Molinas). Reception staff very helpful and friendly, always had time to answer queries. Madrid is beautiful, only problem is with the Prado which we booked a month in advance but were still waiting in a very long and hot queue an hour past our entrance time. Seems the Prado oversells tickets which then have to be verified (1st queue ) and then there is a rigorous scanning process, longer than the airport (2nd queue). Afternoons are much better and don’t take a rucksack as this will be held ( 3rd queue) Exhibition excellent once you get inside.
We had a room overlooking the central courtyard. Any noise,( voices, telephones ) was multiplied and exceptionally loud. Not sure what could be done to improve this but this is just to make people aware. Not sure if rooms overlooking the front would be better as the hotel is on a busy main road? The snack bar had limited choices especially for vegetarians and it was expensive as were the drinks. Hotel bars always seem to charge a lot extra. Not sure why?
