The hotel is located in the heart of Grindelwald town; within 50 meters, you will find the train station, bus station, supermarket, restaurants, and tourist information center. The staff's friendliness, room size, and amenities were up to par. Breakfast host was super courteous, who served us lovely coffee, freshly cooked eggs, and a wonderful variety of continental breakfast items, including different cuts of cheese. Even though we didn’t have a balcony in our room, the view of the majestic Swiss Alps through the window was beautiful.

The mattresses have lived up to their age! They were not comfortable at all! The intruding springs and several depressions in the mattress were not at all comfy. This is a must-fix to get the perfect score!

If staying in Grindelwald - book this hotel! My husband and I are on night 4 out of 5 here and have nothing but amazing things to say. 1 - We just finished dinner here and immediately regret eating ANYWHERE else for dinner in Grindelwald before tonight!!!! The main strip in town is filled with touristy food and it was making me feel awful after eating it a couple days in a row. I was craving QUALITY food. This was hands down the BEST MEAL WE’VE HAD IN SWITZERLAND and incredible value. I wanted to hug the chef! We both did the 5 course dinner option and paid around 55CHF per person for it before alcoholic beverages. A meal of this quality in the US would cost $200+!!! We plan on coming back tomorrow on our last night for dinner, too! It was also so nice to have a chill quiet dinner atmosphere with amazing customer service (everywhere on the strip is packed with tourists). 2 - The staff has been so gracious and kind! I wanted to gift my grandmother crochet items from Switzerland and they helped me find a local spot (Fanky’s). They’ve also given other great recommendations and have been very friendly and welcoming! 3 - If your first time in this area something we got lucky by booking this hotel that we didn’t know to plan for was the SHORT distance from the train station. We can’t imagine how much of a pain it would’ve been to stay elsewhere and have to carry our luggage up more hills/further! This also makes catching trains after breakfast a breeze in the morning as well. Also, this is the view from our balcony. So pretty! Book here - you won’t regret it! 🥰

June 2024

We stayed at the Hotel Restaurant Alpina early June this year. We had a room facing the Eiger and the view from the Balcony was breathtaking (we spent many a days sipping tea on the balcony just admiring the view) . Was expecting a tiny room but it was a decent size with good storage space and clean (My wife's allergies normally get triggered in hotels with carpets, did not happen here a single day). There is a coin operated laundry (a single washer and dryer) on the second floor (prices were 1/4 that I paid at a coin operated laundry in Zurich). The dryer had a problem when we were using it, went down to the reception and the owners daughter took care of the problem. We loved the fact that the owners were around and helpful with any questions we had. We had dinner at the restaurant one of the days and the western food served was delicious. Considering the food in the regular restaurants in Grindelwald were pizzas, pastas and burgers, this was a welcome change. Location is a big plus. The hotel is 5 mins away from the train station. The only downside is that it is up a steep slope. It mostly didn't bother us but pushing suitcases up the slope was quite a workout and on our checkout day it was raining (was quite a task balancing the suitcases down the slope in the rain).

The breakfast included could have done with some more options. There was a buffet with Croissants, rolls and a few types of bread. Butter, Jams, Fruit and some veg for Salad. Lots of local cheese, some Salami, Ham and local Sausage. I realised there were eggs that could be ordered only when I saw someone place an order. The shower area is a tiny cubicle. I am 6.1" and found it a tight squeeze. Anyone huge might have some issues there.

We loved the location as it is right in Grindelwald town and with an amazing, scenic outlook across the mountains and beautiful landscape. We loved our room as it was so clean and comfortable and the outdoor balcony area was perfect to sit out on and enjoy the scenery with our coffee and wine. We found the staff to be very friendly and the included breakfast was very good with plenty to eat and being able to order eggs cooked was a bonus. The grounds of the hotel are lovely as well with a nice patio area with grass and chairs to sit out and enjoy.

The main negative of our room was the pillows, they are very flat and we both had to double them over to find enough support to sleep on. I would recommend maybe better, more fuller pillows or perhaps a choice of pillow? We also would have liked some long life milk to go with the teabags that were provided and also more teabags offered in the room. A small mini fridge would have been very appreciated as well.

My girlfriend and I had an amazing stay at Hotel Alpina. The location is ideal—just a 5-minute walk from the train station, making it incredibly convenient to reach. The staff was friendly and attentive, the room was spacious, spotless, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. The view from our window was absolutely breathtaking. We also loved the breakfast; it was delicious and made us wish we could have stayed longer. Highly recommend!

There was no clothing iron in the room, but the hotel's laundry service was excellent and made up for it. Also, there was no air conditioning (which is common in Switzerland), but the staff quickly provided a room fan upon request, which worked perfectly.

We had a great view and a balcony upon which to view it. Took our wine and snacks out and gazed upon snowy Eiger. Far enough away from the main tourist area that traffic noise wasn't a problem, and people weren't constantly walking by our hotel. Breakfast was quite good, and they had a nice outdoor green space. A fairly short walk to the train station without all the activity of being too close to it.

Their choice of bedding was a bit unusual. I can see the "waffle" type material being a good choice for bedding if you had a sheet between you and the duvet, but to have it be next to your skin, and on the pillow as well...not really the most comfortable. It did look nice tho. I will say...the shower was the smallest I've been in...even by European standards. There would be no washing of feet because bending over would need a contortionist, and if you were a person of large girth...it would be an uncomfortable shower.

Fantastic hotel, really enjoyed my stay. Located very near the final stop of the train from Interlaken Ost I was delighted it was so close after a long days travel. Beds were incredibly comfy and welcomed after a long days hiking. Rooms are also very well sound insulated. My room had a balcony with a spectacular view of the mountains that was honestly breath taking. Breakfast was nice and tasty.

A little expensive for a solo traveler but the hotel was worth it in the end I feel. Wish I could have stayed longer. Very little wrong with this hotel.

The staff were friendly and helpful. Excellent system of leaving the room key at the reception in exchange for smaller key for use on the main door. The location was superb directly facing mount Eiger.

Little to complain about really. The room facilities were fairly basic, just a kettle and small packets of instant coffee and tea bags. Shower was "compact" but worked fine, although the water took ages to drain away.

It was very convenient near the station. Even though I was visiting the area for the first time, I was able to arrive easily and enjoy the quiet scenery despite it being the center of tourism. I could see the mountain range that I wanted to see forever from the balcony, so I drank tea and spent some time there in the morning. The breakfast included hot drinks, fruit, and bread and was perfect for a day of hiking.

Having a small fridge for the beer I bought at Coop would be helpful.

Beautiful hotel with a rustic atmosphere, with spacious and comfortable rooms. Complemented by a very good restaurant and an outdoor terrace where you can have a glass of wine or a beer while enjoying the amazing view of the north face of the Eiger. Very welcoming and hospitable hosts and staff, always ready to help. Conveniently located a couple of minutes uphill from the Grindelwald train station and the main street.
