My wife stayed here a few years ago and recommended booking again for our ski vacation for it's proximity to Matterhorn Express gondola (Antares is a very short walk, only the second building from the gondola), spa, and breakfast. The management/reception staff is extremely attentive - two small requests during our stay were fulfilled immediately, they greet you with enthusiasm everytime you walk through the lobby, they arrange taxis (and on our Saturday morning departure, their own vehicle when Zermatt taxis were unavailable,) and they even arranged a last minute additional night for us - all at a great rate for Zermatt. The hotel is in a traditional style with beautiful woodwork in the rooms and restaurant, the most frequent complaint we read here was that the property is "dated," and while certain things in the room are a little worn, some of the carpet could be replaced and there could be a few more electrical outlets by today's standard, everything is clean, in good working order (great water pressure and the hottest water coming from the taps i have ever experienced anywhere,) and we loved the linens and fluffy down comforters and pillows. Plus a balcony and perfect view of the Matterhorn. Breakfast is great. Antares' Best Kept "secret" is the spa with hot sauna, steam sauna, a rasul, hot and cold showers, two whirlpool tubs, and warm lounging stations - in a quote Roman-spa-inspired setting. We were almost always alone in the spa - very relaxing and romantic!

I was surprised at some of the critical reviews i had read about this property, but after the first 24 hours at this lovely, traditional, and welcoming hotel, any concerns were dispelled. Please see positive comments.

View was lovely, room was spacious and breakfast was excellent.

Location is great for the Matterhorn Express but a difficult walk with luggage from the Zermatt station. Taxi’s are available.

Great value for skiers - one of the closest lodgings to the Matterhorn Glacier Express gondola, and at a great price. Good breakfast, ski and boot room with street access. Fluffy, warm, down comforters and pillows. Clean. Friendly reception, helpful with recommendations. Discounted taxis (10 CHF) to the train station - just call on arrival and arrange at checkout. Taxi usually arrives in 10 minutes. Full spa with wet sauna, dry sauna, razul, cold and hot showers, 2 whirlpool tubs, and 9 heated lounge chairs for relaxation. Many rooms have a Matterhorn view. This is an older, classic hotel and because of its popularity its always booked so the rooms are a little worn from use and continuous cleaning. It's a charming place that we've stayed at on all 3 of our week-long ski trips to Zermatt. The amenities and proximity to the gondola for skiers are a great value.

The hotel is very close to the Matterhorn express and we experienced no lines. We were able to bring our cat with us and room was comfortable for the 3 of us. We had a great balcony with a view of the Matterhorn. There were dining options very close to us and downtown Zermatt was only a 15 min walk. We used a taxi only when we arrived and left with our luggage. Breakfast was varied and staff were friendly and helpful. There is a boot warmer in the ski room and spa has 2 whirlpool pools and dry and wet saunas which are all clothing optional. Hotel provides robes and slippers. The safe in our room did not work but we had no problems, simply kept our valuables locked up.

The rooms are a little run down, specially the carpet. The furniture and bedding could be updated but this may be due to the hotel allowing pets.

The hotel is mostly having the original 80's details , some may call it old but it is great , loved every single detail , real marble bathroom , wooden furniture , iron window shutters ...etc. The location of the hotel could not be better , just next to the glacier express , wow ! The view from the balcony (well yes the room is having a huge balcony) is like a dream , have your coffee or wine while staring at the Matterhorn ! The breakfast , another greatness they offer , real good quality food in a beautiful saloon with a fantastic view , can't ask more for a start of a new day. Last but not least the staff ! Warm like a family from kitchen to frontdesk , been to many countries , never seen such a lovely staff , helpful and absolute sincere ! Also special thanks to Gabriel for making us feel at home.

Staff were really nice and friendly, view of the Matterhorn was good from our room and definitely worth it, the furniture is old but everything was very clean, the room was a good size too. Breakfast was nice with a decent range and they take your coffee order when you arrive. Super close to the cable cars, comfortable walking distance from Zermatt station.

Bathrooms could use an extractor fan or mosquito netting, not a big problem but for bigger families there can be a bit of vapour after everyone showers.

Beautiful views, very comfortable beds and rooms with plenty of space, great bathroom and towels, amazing breakfast with a beautiful breakfast room with incredible views of the Matterhorn , super friendly and helpful staff

Everything - it’s located a bit outside of the center of town so it’s a quiet location and the views it affords of the Matterhorn are just perfect. It’s a beautiful building. I also liked that the elevator was fast - so didn’t have to ever wait long.

Great location to hit the slopes and very kind and helpful staff exceed some minor limitations of hotel equipment. Complimentary spa and breakfast were lovely as well as the view towards Matterhorn. I like the little details like a quality bed sheets, comfy beds, little hand/ face towels or robes and slippers for the spa.

It might need a renovation soon but if the staff keeps up the cleanliness level, it will still fulfill requirements of the little bit less demanding clients. Back in times it had to be a fancy hotel..

Beautiful views of the Matterhorn from my balcony. Cozy, comfortable, quiet room with full-length bath in which to soak away those achey legs after a day on the piste and/or hiking. The vegan breakfast options were great: the restaurant manager treated me to special bircher muesli plus muffins and yoghourt every morning.

The hotel was super-handy for one of the main Zermatt lifts but not so great for the Sunegga - which was the one my ski-school used...
