The Maynard is a very special place for us as it was the venue of our wedding 10 years ago. Like to return as much as possible for drinks and meals and we’re looking at a overnight stay for a 10 year anniversary. The staff brilliant. The venue is great in decor and the variety of drinks available was superb.
The only downside for us was the evening meal. At 7:15, sitting time the restaurant run out of lots of options. Two fish dishes that we had Idle in the day plus the Sunday roasts were out of stock. We opted for steak but they were very chewy and looked like cobbled together cuts. Also the chips weren’t cooked long enough. This was a shame as everything else on our stay was fantastic.

The room had great facilities and was clean and comfy. A bath and coffee machine were nice additions. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was good and had several vegetarian options for breakfast.
The telly didn’t work (possibly a bad signal) bur wasn’t a major issue.

The whole experience of staying at The Maynard was excellent from the minute we walked in with the warm friendly greeting at reception to the style of the hotel this was well and truly in tune with it's surroundings, our room was very clean and stylist with a comfortable bed and an amazing shower. We had a 2 night stay and ate on both evenings in the beautiful restaurant with pleasant friendly and courteous staff with a fabulous new menu. My partner is gluten free and 80% of the choices on the menu was gluten free and the dishes we had was so tasty. The Maynard is in a beautiful location with Padley Gorge near by. Would deffo recommend.

The breakfast was really good with very good quality local produce. The decor and setting are also really great. Lovely outside spaces. The bed was very comfortable, there wasn't any noise from other guests or the hotel's normal activities, The radio is a really nice touch and the provision of water and glasses was also very much appreciated. I loved the towelling dressing gowns too.
The room was just big enough, the bed side table was cluttered. Again the shower room /en-suite was just big enough, and I had problems with the shower settings. I was scalded when it suddenly ran very, very hot and I had to escape the shower cubicle. Perhaps some help on how to set the shower would be very useful as I am not used to this model?

Everything about this hotel is perfect. As soon as we arrived we made to feel welcome, I came straight from a festival dressed as a viking and the girls didn't bat an eyelid, they were polite and courteous. They gave us all the information we needed for our stay. Our room was clean and neat with the most amazing view over the valley. There was plenty of tea and coffee which was much needed. We ate in the restaurant on the evening, the staff were quick to help and the food was spectacular. Compliments to the chef, she has a way of blending flavours together that are like a mini party in your mouth with every bite. Wikktoria and Lukasz were so polite and checked that everything was okay with us several times and made sure we had drinks at all times. We rested well in the room, the bed was comfortable, you can hear some noises in the corridor which is to be expected but nothing that was going to disrupt a sleep. In the morning we arrived for breakfast (around 9.30) the gentleman serving was really polite and apologised for our wait which I didn't think was excessive, he was attentive to the guests needs and despite been busy did it all with a smile. Once again the food was amazing. The eggs were cooked to perfection, I am a fussy egg eater. On checkout we asked to see the family room as we plan on returning woth our children amd the lady on the front office was more than happy to show us. Overall we had a fantastic stay for what was a last minute booking. So much so we have told all of our friends and family about it. I highly recommend you visit this hidden gem in the middle of the peaks.
It wasn't a dislike and it didn't bother us as we were not in a rush but at breakfast there was a little wait yo order. To be fair the young man never stopped and was constantly on the move. Several tables arrived at once so he had an influx but some guest started to chunter. Just give yourself plenty of time if you are heading for breakfast at peak times.

This was a return visit to a hotel we knew but from a long time ago. Most of the hotel is cosy and country style. The staff are welcoming and helpful and were endlessly patient with some tricky guests while we were there. The food was fresh, beautiful and plentiful. We enjoyed breakfasts and dinners during our stay. The bathroom was well fitted, very clean, and we loved the White Company toiletries, a luxury touch.
Our room had an industrial, city loft styling, with metallic wallpaper, dark walls and almost metallic curtain fabric. The furnishings and some furniture followed this style and for us the styling doesn’t match the hotel well. Somehow the styling made the room feel cold, though there was a radiator in the wardrobe for us to use for additional heating.

Lovely solid looking hotel in an elevated position very handy for exploring the area. Large car park and lovely gardens with a contemporay feeling. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and accomodating. Great restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. Evening meal was very tasty and the breakfast was very good. Bedroom was huge with a very modern bathroom. Bed was king sized and very comfy. Bus stop across the road for exploring the area.
My starter was Beef Carpaccio but was anything but. 3 slices of thick beef and no marinade. Spring onions were not peeled back and left with bad outer skins. The waiter lated admitted that the chef was training and the dish should not have gone out. I was not compensated for it never the less. Loud tapping noises during the night woke us both up. Very strange as happened several times and so we had a bad nights sleep. The receptionist could not understand this as it had never happened before. I have since found out from previous reviews that this has happened before and its put down to the old pipes of the central heating system. These matters will not prevent us from booking again however as in the main it was great.

The place is just amazing, spotlessly clean and a taste of luxury in lovely surroundings. We booked an executive suite which was the ‘Sir Don Bradman’ It had amazing views over the gardens and beyond. We had all the facilities you could possibly need from a bath in the room and then a separate shower & toilet, large tv, DAB radio, heater, plenty of bed linen and pillows, seating area to take in the views and lots more things besides. Very comfortable bed! Breakfast was fantastic- you could choose one thing from the menu (we went full English) It really was great, and it was to celebrate my milestone birthday so well worth booking the room we did & choosing that hotel. We did have a reservation for the restaurant but we cancelled it reluctantly because there wasn’t one dish that I could have had - my fault- I am a fussy eater ha! I am going to sound very boring now, but something a bit more simple like fish & chips or some kind of roast meat would have been lovely. All in all, a wonderful stay and I always try to mention everything in reviews- the good points far out weigh everything else.
This is in no way against the hotel or surroundings - I rate it all exceptionally high. But… the external noise was definitely a low point - we woke in the morning around 5:30am to what we presumed was a vacuum, this was then followed by thumping from the room above - I presume maybe children running about which I know the hotel can do nothing about. As said above - this is not against the hotel, we just personally would have liked to sleep a little longer to make the break 100% relaxing.

Our second stay at The Maynard. Booked a snug room for 2 at a great price. Lovely cosy room, big enough for a one night stay. Stylish and comfortable, so quiet. Good en suite bathroom. Big enough for us but some might find it a bit of a squeeze. Staff all friendly, lovely bar area. Delicious breakfast, beautiful breakfast room with amazing view. Such a lovely area of the Peak District. You could leave your car in the car park and do some lovely local rambles.
Nothing to not like. The only negative was that we had to wait a bit for our breakfast as the staff were busy. Didn't spoil anything, made us chill out, relax and take in the view.

The breakfast and the dining area in general for lunch and tea is amazing. Very well prepared food, lots of choice on the menu, short waiting time and lovely waiting staff. Our stay was great, there was a problem with the heating and one of the staff members provided mini oil heaters to the guest. Wasn't a problem for long, heating was beaming the next morning. The room was very clean, a maid comes in about 11am / 12pm. So when you come back from walks etc... your room is nice again. Reception is very friendly and helpful. I would recommend to anyone for all kinds of stays.
It doesn't have a lift or anyway to get elderly / disabled people up the stairs. We spotted someone struggling to walk up the stairs. Also the majority of things to do in the area is walking paths and climbing. So if you're tired a nice easy way to get to your room would be nice.
