Got upgraded to a self catering cottage which was really nice. Everything was perfect apart from the weather but the extra space in the cottage compensated for that
The bar staff are very young and lack people skills. Its nice to be greeted as if you are one of the family rather than just a customer to be served and got rid of. It was impossible to strike up a conversation with them as they were more interested in their colleagues conversations. This does not apply to the young lady who started that week who had more character than all the boys put together. Sorry, but it did spoil the atmosphere in the bar. Its a shame as its such a lovely hotel.

Small quiet cottage tucked away at rear of pub car park. Well sound insulated. ( we stayed over New Year) Babbling brook and quiet road behind it. Well equipped. Lovely and warm. Very good housekeeping. Right in town with some parking and a large public carpark close by. One stop shop yards away. Friendly pub and really helpful staff. Has kitchen extractor and bin store facing two of their cottages but it does not affect your stay ( in winter anyway)
No major issues at all. Struggled a bit to read but should have taken a book light! (Only on bedside light between two bedrooms) Couldn’t open the bedroom windows but could open the rear windows so was fine. ( could have asked for window key I guess but I didn’t)

Lovely breakfast, especially the sausages. Plenty of choice. Good to see the bar promoting local breweries such as Eyam and stocking Pipers Crisps. Friendly bar / waiting staff. The room had a great ensuite and the shower temperature was just right. Excellent location for the countryside and the rest of the village - there is a bus stop to Bakewell opposite and a stop for Sheffield literally outside the hotel . Hathersage Train Station is not too far either and the famous Hathersage Open Air lido is just up the street. The bar was lively in the evening with a good atmosphere of locals and tourists/walkers. I'd happily stay there again.
The bedroom could get a little bit stuffy. The size of the double bed was not generous. The bar prices were expensive (more than my local in SE London) but it was the same at the other pubs we went to in the village so not just The Little John. There is very little to dislike about the place so perhaps I'm nit picking a bit.

The staff are all friendly. The pub menu is a good variety, should you choose to dine in. The breakfast is a buffet option, with fruit, cereal and yoghurts served in addition to a full English option and a selection of teas and coffee and fruit juice. Served between 8am- 9 am in the comfortable spacious dining area. Room was a good size and had everything you need, loved the plentiful coffee, tea and hot chocolate selection with biscuits, bathroom has complimentary soap and hand cream. Parking was available on the premises which was a bonus and check in was in the bar area of the pub and very efficient and welcoming.
Extended breakfast time until 10am would be good. As a relaxing getaway trip, it didn't leave much for a lie in! That being said we're were up and out to enjoy a lovely walk, so I guess that's good too enjoy the morning air! The bed was extremely soft, I appreciate this may suit some and seemed a small double, certainly cosy.

My son and I stayed at the Little John hotel for 3 nights in August. Breakfast was excellent, a cooked breakfast, but also cereals, fruit, yoghurt, brioche and toast. The bedroom was spacious and it had a modern shower room. We had dinner one night in the restaurant and can definitely reccommend the fish and chips. It was also possible to order a Chinese takeaway from the bar and that was very good too. Take note though that the majority of eateries in Hathersage shut at 8pm. The hotel was situated in an excellent place and we caught a bus to Ladybower reservoir from just outside the hotel. We also caught the train to Edale. There are many good walks in the area.

Excellent Customer service from Check In through to Check out. Got shown to our room which was rnormous and then helped upstairs with all or bags and the hound. Excellent Bar with a good choice and very reasonably priced considering its location in a tourist hot spot. Food was superb although a little limited choice wise. Needed a Steak or Mixed Grill to beef it up.
Purely a personal thing, but the Chips! Triple cooked chips is way too pretenyious for the location. Stick to what people know and expect from a chip. Having said that, I hsd them on three nights, so theres nothing wrong with yhem, they were just WRONG. :-) Stayed in the Maid Marian room which as sn unusual two steps up to the toilet, presumably to do with routing the soil pipes etc but having mobility issues I think a hand rail is needed on the left side as you go up, just to make things a tad safer but other yhan that, no complaints ehatsoever, cant wait to come back.

Very clean room and quiet. Bed and pillows really comfortable. Rainfall shower was great. Room wasn't serviced during the stay which in a way was nice so could relax and not feel needed to tidy it every day! Was great to have poached eggs as main egg option for hot breakfast. For those with dogs it is a dog friendly hotel but the rooms had no signs that dogs had been in them. Was exceptional value for money and would definitely go back.
There was no welcome pack in the room which would have been helpful. Didn't realise there were two exits if wanted to go out early on morning but manager was on hand to help when wanted to go out early. Buffet breakfast good idea but hot breakfast was cool some mornings. Would have liked more options for cereals e.g. muesli would have been a nice option. A breakfast menu would be helpful too as not sure what other options there were e.g. vegetarian sausages, different egg options.

Lovely setting, close to the station and to some amazing scenery. Staff seemed great. Room.was big, light, airy. Brilliant shower which was much appreciated after a day on the hills.. Comfy bed. It's a village pub with a great local vibe. Good breakfast selection!
Could do with black out blinds! Waking up to the sun over the hills is magical but the outside lights of the pub, late at night, are less fun. Pillows were a bit variable in their quality! Lighting in my room was odd. Lovely lighting fixture. But way, way too bright as the dimmer never worked. And the bedside lamps maybe a bit too dim to, for example, read by. Just minor tweaks though and this place is properly boss.

I was upgraded from a room to a cottage which was great. I was travelling alone so didn't really need such a large space, but it was good to be able to have all the extra space.
The cottage is a little dark inside during the day, due to its position and windows. The lounge blind was broken so I couldn't open it, however this was a minor inconvenience for a one night stay. The cottage backed on to the main hotel, and was exposed to some air conditioning units that were quite noisy, which didn't concern me overly (and I didn't hear them late at night so I assume they were turned off), however families with small children might find the noise in the early evening intrusive.

Nice location, great starting/ending point for popular hikes. Quiet at night. In the middle of Hathersage. The room we had was huge with a good en-suite bathroom. Breakfast was very big but a bit difficult to navigate
Breakfast was a bit confusing - no one around to tell you if you should order or if there's a buffet, and unsure if anything else on the menu apart from a full English. Would be good to have some information on this in the rooms or when you check in or on the tables in the morning. We spent quite a lot on this one-night stay as we pre-booked but then there were a lot of empty rooms, and had we booked on the day we would have saved £50. Our own fault but personally I don't think the property is worth more than £90 a night for 2 people
