The food was amazing.A young man behind the bar both nights think he said his name was Vin,he made us both feel very welcome he was so friendly and helpful.the staff were all lovely but he went the extra mile. The room was really big, The bathroom was lovely, it had a fabulous shower, it had some lovely toiletries. Few shops on your doorstep if you needed them. It was a great local base for us to go hiking in the peak district .
The room had a couple of small issues the floor made so much noise when you walked on it and some pieces were loose. The key to the door got stuck it was very difficult to open every time

Great value for money, the rooms were well equipped with plenty of fresh towels. Tea, coffee and shower gel and body cream. Staff friendly. Good selection of beers. Breakfast excellent and plentiful.
The biggest and only real negative was that we were arriving a little late on a Friday night. Asked what time the kitchen closed and was told 9pm by Gary on the Friday morning. We set off and headed straight for the hotel rather than stop on the way. Arrived just past 8:30pm after a 3.5 hour drive. Whilst getting the room key asked if we could order some food and was told the kitchen was closed. Had we had let them know they could have stayed open longer or arranged something. I explained I had and didn’t get much of a response only that we should try the Indian down the road. Disappointing and other than breakfast (which was good) didn’t eat in the pub/hotel during our stay. I would stay again though as it is good value for money.

Good central location, rather limited parking, however, it was free and I found a space for the night. Rooms appeared to have been recently redecorated or upgraded and were very comfortable and with plenty of space. Bar-Service staff were very friendly and polite.
The evening meal on a Sunday night could have been a lot better and the whole process of its serving felt like a last gasp effort after a long day of serving food. Rather than what was on the menu and was ordered, I was offered my steak and ale pie to go with anything that was left over on the buffet Sunday lunch server. By 1930 most of it was well past its best and dry to the point of being inedible - the pie was similar. After a very long day of driving and a 4 mile hike, I was too hungry and tired to try and sort out a replacement meal. I am all for avoiding wasting food and materials but a lot of food stuff that has been in a warming tray since lunchtime should be checked for what is actually salvageable.

Got upgraded to a self catering cottage which was really nice. Everything was perfect apart from the weather but the extra space in the cottage compensated for that
The bar staff are very young and lack people skills. Its nice to be greeted as if you are one of the family rather than just a customer to be served and got rid of. It was impossible to strike up a conversation with them as they were more interested in their colleagues conversations. This does not apply to the young lady who started that week who had more character than all the boys put together. Sorry, but it did spoil the atmosphere in the bar. Its a shame as its such a lovely hotel.

When we arrived, we were shown to our room which was in a converted cottage to the side of the main hotel / bar. The room was a really good size , warm, nicely decorated with a lovely modern shower room and tea / coffee making facilities. We booked to have dinner in the pub and weren't disappointed. The food was reasonably priced and the portions good and everyone was really friendly and welcoming. The whole place was very dog friendly and several guests had dogs who were allowed in the rooms and bar / dining area. Breakfast the following morning was included in our rate and there was plenty of choice - it was a self service buffet bar with cereal, yoghurt, fruit juice, toast, cooked items and tea / coffee. We would definitely stay again and try out a few more of the walks in the local area.

The location and the relaxed atmosphere were great as was the cleanliness of our room - it was warm and cosy
As breakfast was only served between 8am and 9am it a free for all with everyone turning up at 8.45! There were no visible staff to monitor and food wise there was very little left in the self serve dishes by the time we got to the front of the queue - no eggs and no bacon and no warm coffee I feel that on a Sunday especially breakfast should be offered until 10am However what was left was tasty - sausages, beans, and mushrooms but we felt guilty for taking these as there were people waiting behind us

Small quiet cottage tucked away at rear of pub car park. Well sound insulated. ( we stayed over New Year) Babbling brook and quiet road behind it. Well equipped. Lovely and warm. Very good housekeeping. Right in town with some parking and a large public carpark close by. One stop shop yards away. Friendly pub and really helpful staff. Has kitchen extractor and bin store facing two of their cottages but it does not affect your stay ( in winter anyway)
No major issues at all. Struggled a bit to read but should have taken a book light! (Only on bedside light between two bedrooms) Couldn’t open the bedroom windows but could open the rear windows so was fine. ( could have asked for window key I guess but I didn’t)

Lovely breakfast, especially the sausages. Plenty of choice. Good to see the bar promoting local breweries such as Eyam and stocking Pipers Crisps. Friendly bar / waiting staff. The room had a great ensuite and the shower temperature was just right. Excellent location for the countryside and the rest of the village - there is a bus stop to Bakewell opposite and a stop for Sheffield literally outside the hotel . Hathersage Train Station is not too far either and the famous Hathersage Open Air lido is just up the street. The bar was lively in the evening with a good atmosphere of locals and tourists/walkers. I'd happily stay there again.
The bedroom could get a little bit stuffy. The size of the double bed was not generous. The bar prices were expensive (more than my local in SE London) but it was the same at the other pubs we went to in the village so not just The Little John. There is very little to dislike about the place so perhaps I'm nit picking a bit.

The little John is located perfectly in hathersage with plenty of space downstairs for a nice drink after a walk or climb. Easy to get around in the peaks so a perfect bolt hole. The staff were very friendly the room was comfortable. And the breakfast was excellent especially considering it comes in the price of the room could not fault it, have heard good things about it before I came from people in the climbing community who have stayed their to climb at stannage. And they were not wrong.
Couldn’t fault it at all, soon as checked in welcoming and polite.

The staff are all friendly. The pub menu is a good variety, should you choose to dine in. The breakfast is a buffet option, with fruit, cereal and yoghurts served in addition to a full English option and a selection of teas and coffee and fruit juice. Served between 8am- 9 am in the comfortable spacious dining area. Room was a good size and had everything you need, loved the plentiful coffee, tea and hot chocolate selection with biscuits, bathroom has complimentary soap and hand cream. Parking was available on the premises which was a bonus and check in was in the bar area of the pub and very efficient and welcoming.
Extended breakfast time until 10am would be good. As a relaxing getaway trip, it didn't leave much for a lie in! That being said we're were up and out to enjoy a lovely walk, so I guess that's good too enjoy the morning air! The bed was extremely soft, I appreciate this may suit some and seemed a small double, certainly cosy.
