All the staff are very pleasant and helpful. The food was excellent and the bar has a quiet ambience. The bedrooms are very comfortable. Location is excellent for Chatsworth. We enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this hotel.

On arrival we were warmly welcomed and shown to our room (room 4) by Amy, which set the tone, as all the staff we subsequently met were polite, helpful and very friendly. The room was a small double, as advertised, (all that was available as we booked at short notice), so I now have a few bruises from catching the corner of the bed walking round to my side. However, it was adequate with the space used well and contained everything we needed. The room was well decorated and spotless, and the drinks tray contained tea and coffee, with bone china cups and saucers and a cafetiere. Two bottles of local beer were a lovely addition, which may have been because it was New Year's Eve. The bathroom was clean, with a very good, powerful shower over the bath and the towels were soft and fluffy. Breakfast was delicious - my husband had the full English and I had Eggs Royale. The additional self service breakfast buffet was basic but fine, with a choice of cereals, plain yoghurt and a toaster with a basket of brown and white bread, jam and honey. It would have been good to have also had some crumpets and fresh fruit, but that's just a minor niggle. It was a wonderful stay and we will definitely stay again. If we were staying for longer than one night we would need a bigger room as storing luggage would be an issue in the small double. As lovely as the Devonshire Arms is, the very best thing about it is the staff, who are an absolute credit to the business.

Rooms are comfortable, friendly staff, good food and in an excellent position for visiting Chatsworth.
The weather was cold during our stay and it snowed. The bar area and dining room were cold in the evenings. On the second night we asked for the central heating in the dining room to be turned on as the radiators were stone cold. One or two diners kept their coats on! It got better once the radiators warmed up and we had an enjoyable meal. After dunner we went into the bar but the radiators in there were also cold. There was a wood burning stove but this was never lit even when it snowed. We would have stayed longer in the bar but because it just wasn’t cosy and warm we had one hot drink and went to our room.

Such a lovely hotel & pub. We stayed for 2 nights whilst exploring the Peak District. The hotel is walking distance to the grounds of chatsworth and a short drive to Bakewell. We were warmly greeted by Rachel, who let us know we had a complimentary upgrade to our room. We were travelling with our dog, who also got a little treat packet, that she was very happy with! Room was beautiful, with plenty of space and a secure courtyard that made it so much easier with the dog. Breakfast had a good choice of hot & cold options (Pancakes were amazing!), and our evening meal with lovely. (We recommend the pie!). We would definitely stay again!
Nothing of note

Staff greeting us was very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast host/server was very good and welcoming. Dinner server was very nice and helpful. I had an issue with my dinner so they didn’t charge me and also offered what ever I wanted to replace it. I did not take them up with it. We had six in our family that dined and all of them were excellent. All meals were so good! The inn is exactly what we wanted to experience in the country side. The near by town was so amazing and the Chatsworth venue was REALLY amazing inside tour excellent and the grounds tour was excellent. It is a ways to get there from London but made nice by being able to view the countryside along the way by train. Well worth it.
We loved this place so there isn’t really anything the is worth mentioning but the toilet in our room was so close to the wall that you had to sit at a slight angle. Not really a thing that should be complained about just a little odd. The floors creaked a lot which didn’t bother us other than our concerns for the people below us during my night visits to the bathroom. I figured out later that actually there is no rooms below us to bother. These are not things that should take away from our visit rather just things that you should expect.

Good breakfast in a nice atmosphere, good selection of food, comfortable chairs. Room was nice, but most of the furniture was white painted French Provincial and looked like it came out of a charity shop.
About half of the furniture was French Provincial painted white and looked like it came from a charity shop and was not befitting the overall style of the hotel. Wardrobe was flimsy and was not level. The hotel is dog friendly which means that dogs could have been in your room and you can be sitting in the dining room next to a dog. I completely disagree with 'dog friendly' policies as the hotel does not seem to care about guests that have allergies to dog hair. With a dog friendly policy, you attract some people but chase others away, like me.

Lots of lovely walks close by. The staff were all very good indeed. The room was clean and ideal for what we wanted (family room). There were some bath ducks in the kids bathroom (separate bathrooms was an unexpected bonus) and some books in the kids room. I really liked the toiletries that I used. The breakfast was very good.
We stayed on a Wednesday night. I was surprised at how noisy it was in the room in the evening. We could hear music from the pub, which made it difficult for my youngest child to drift off. All quiet by 9pm though. The water pressure was not very good in either bathroom.

Ideally situated to visit Chatsworth House, Monsal Trail and the Dale's. This impressive building couldn't fail to impress. The car park is at the rear and parking wasn't a problem, however, if busy, parking would be difficult. There is a public car park on the other side of the green. You were welcomed by very friendly and professional staff. You were shown around the facilities and to your room. Our bedroom was on the rear, it was very well decorated, functional and clean, with a very comfy bed.Toileries were supplied, which coveted everything you would need. There was even a new toothpaste and toothbrush, just in case. You could even have fresh milk for tea and coffee, situated in a fridge in the guest area. Plus, Wellingtons and umbrellas for guest use should it rain, what a wonderful thought. The hotel is very dog friendly too. Both breakfast and evening meals were delicious, great choice and well presented. Thought out our stay, the staff couldn't do enough for you. We failed to find one thing wrong. Fantastic find and will degrees return.
We had to leave. Couldn't fault a thing!

Location was beautiful, rooms had everything you needed
It rains a lot in the Peak District and we got drenched and our clothes got very wet. We thought they’d dry on the towel rails but when we were there neither the towel rails or radiators could be turned on so we returned in wet clothes which wasn’t pleasant. Tea and coffee in the rooms was excellent but the tea at breakfast was undrinkable as they only provide a flask of hot water which doesn’t do the job of boiling water from the kettle. I’ve never stayed anywhere before that doesn’t provide a pot of tea at breakfast. However it was ok as we went back to our rooms, made a decent cup and took them into breakfast with us 😊

The situation, lovely dining room and bar area. Quiet location with little disturbance. Good breakfast options and lovely toiletries provided in the bathroom which was a nice touch. Staff all very nice and helpful with special mention to Lisa who gave us a lovely welcome and went out of her way to accomodate our needs and even celebrate my birthday with Prosecco and candles!
Bed a bit small (double) and mattress too soft for us so sleeping was a bit uncomfortable, sadly. Slightly disappointed with the menu options for dinner. Felt it was highly priced and our second meal could certainly have been better.
