Staff were friendly and polite. The Inn was full of character, history and very popular. Food was very good and reasonably priced. The room was spacious and decorated in keeping with the Inn’s character, dark furniture and dark walls. Due to the age of the building the floor in the bedroom was uneven. The bathroom was also spacious with a large shower, plenty of hot water and a roll-top bath. Lovely toiletries for guest use, fluffy white towels, bathrobes and slippers. Tea and coffee facilities available in the room with items replenished daily. The bed was comfortable, however the mattress was very firm and the pillows very soft. This may not suit everyone. The bedding was white, crisp and very clean. The room was lit by lamps only, the bulbs were quite dim. The bathroom was well lit. Plenty of room in the car park. It was situated opposite the Inn across a busy road. Quick and easy check-in and check-out on line. The village was very quaint with a few shops. Nice walking area.
There was a choice of cooked breakfast which was very tasty but it did take a while for it to arrive to the table. The cold buffet was ok with cereal, bread to make toast and yogurts. A couple of croissants and pastries were available but not enough for all the guests if they wanted them. From the bedroom the noise from the bar was quite loud, therefore carried on until closing time.

A beautiful inn in a nice location with excellent staff and food. The atmosphere in the pub was great.
Our room was very dark, and at closing time the external bar door (below our room) was closing with a bang every few minutes. Our friends who had a dog had a much bigger, brighter and quieter room with plenty of lighting. Ladies, if like me you need light for hair and make up avoid room 2 called Redoubtable. However, the room was exceptionally clean, the bed very comfy and refreshments well stocked. The shower was amazing too. I would definitely stay again but request a different room.

Sunday night is magical in the crown after a lovely roast live music and a good giggle with Kerry and Tracey at the bar. The service is exceptional plenty of different drinks to select and the rooms are stunning. This is a complete treat staying in the crown inn. We have to also say a lot of tea and a cheeky croissant in the morning with breakfast is lovely we got served again by Amy she is fab we will keep returning to this escape as they always ensure to offer the same experience !! The cleaners do a fantastic job the pub is always sparkling and no sticky tables when we play cards!

The hotel was fabulous and really characterful. Fascinated by its history. Really welcomed by staff and they were helpful showing us directly to our room. The room was lovely, warm and met every expectation. We had a very comfortable nights sleep. Loved the decor. Breakfast was really tasty and my go to choice is generally eggs Benedict, Florentine, etc. Eggs were perfectly poached! We stayed for Sunday lunch with family joining. Again, the Sunday roast was definitely in my top ten as Sunday roasts go. I would definitely stay again given the opportunity to do so.
The fact that we only stayed for one night...could easily have stayed here for longer...especially when the rugby is on in the main part of the hotel!! Fabulous atmosphere. Only regret is that we had a private party to attend elseswhere!

We stayed the first night in the Luxury room and preferred that. This review is for the regular room. The regular room appears to be in a newer extention on the building, and was quiet - we did not hear anything from the pub downstairs. Room was nicely decorated. The pub downstairs is really nice, and the food is great. A generous breakfast is included. There are historic sites nearby, and the high street is charming.
We stayed the first night in the Luxury room and preferred that. This review is for the regular room. The regular room was smaller (as advertised) and we had trouble closing the bathroom window as the wood has warped, so it wouldn't fully shut. The regular room appears to be in a newer extention to the building and it doesn't have the same charm as the luxury room. We were also not provided slippers and robes like we were in the luxury room.

The Luxury room was super nice. Lots of character and charm, combining old and new. The bathroom was amazing. We loved the bath robes, slippers, coffee machine, and snack bar. The food in the pub downstairs is really lovely, and the included breakfast was generous. Famous historic sites a stones throw away, and lovely high street. Overall a great stay.
We could hear the pub downstairs from the Luxury room - breakfast in the morning, and then in the evening before closing. It didn't bother us, but something to note as may bother others. I saw before booking that some reviews mention that you aren't able to control the heating system - for a British person (like me) who is used to old cast iron radiators this was no issue - we turned the radiator valve up when the temperature dropped and closed it overnight as we like sleeping in a colder room. The radiator filled with hot water quickly and quickly heated up the room.

Lovely pub, with a crowded lively bar. Our bedroom was beautifully decorated and exceptionally clean. The furniture and fittings were really high quality, and the bed and linen extremely comfortable. The breakfast was delicious, and the staff were friendly.
Our only criticism was that, in our room, the radiator and heated towel rail would not work (although the heating was on in the rest is f the pub). The room was therefore chilly, especially n the shower room. When we pointed this out on checkout we were told that they had put a Dyson heater in the room because of this, but this would not have warmed the bathroom and towels. Nor did we want to have to work out how to use a heater, when we had expected the central heating to work! I don’t think a room without functional radiators is really good enough at this time of year, in a pub of this quality.

Very pretty old pub which obviously had a very loyal clientelle. Like going back in time to where pubs were vibrant meeting places to discuss how you would put the world to right.
A little disappointed with the food. Admittedly we only had an Entree but mine was a few prawns in butter bizzarly served with a slice of very ordinary toast which didn't soak up the garlic butter. Where was the nice chunky home made bread? My husband chose chicken liver parfait with again a slice ofplain Warburton's type bread -- bizarre and not value for money.

Very quirky old pub, we had a fantastic large room (4) with an amazing bathroom - really luxurious. Each room has a different theme with pictures and information regarding the Battle of Trafalgar. Very helpful staff though they were very busy. Lovely location in an interesting town with many local walks and shops. Breakfast of fresh fruit, pastries, yogurt, and full cooked options. Good choice of evening meals with some special offers. Very dog friendly without any additional charges. Nice outside area. Large carpark on opposite side of the road next to the Abbey grounds. Some room doors are low, if you are tall then suggest that you contact the hotel before arriving to ensure that you have the room doors with the most headheight.
Unlike last year there was no food available on Sunday night. We were unaware that the pub was at the start of a refit which meant that there were changes to the normal times, however we were informed of a choice of local takeaways for the evening meal and provided with table, crockery and cutlery to eat the Chinese that we ordered.
